I decided to make a new pinned post with all the information that is available on my desktop site but that will be more accessible for mobile users. Plus a few extras 😉
So an introduction.
I'm Ace. I started this blog back in February 2018 after seeing a post that referenced the whump community. I had no idea there was such a large community here on tumblr! As soon as I saw that making a whump blog was an option I immediately made one. And I haven't regretted it since. I love this blog, I love this community, and I'm thrilled to be here three years later!
Here on this blog you'll see lots of gifsets both reblogged from wonderful creators and gifs made by yours truly. I also write fanfics on occasion. You can check out my work on AO3 under the name "aceofwhump" or you can look under my tag "ace writes stuff". That tag will have some stuff not on AO3 too. I also do whump lists for certain characters, trope lists, video clips of good whump, and fanfic recs.

What is Whump?
A tag for all the ways we answer the biggest question there is in this community: What exactly IS whump? What tropes or genres can be included in whump? Is *insert trope here* whump? Find all the discussions and definitions right here!

Sci-fi: space illness, oxygen deprivation, isolation, being locked in the brig, hull of the ship getting damaged, alien attacks
Torture/Captivity: Being strung up by their wrists from the ceiling, drugged, chained up, caged, tied to a chair, handcuffed to a pole, interrogated

Why Do We Like Whump?
---------------------------------------
Introducing…
ACEOFWHUMP’S FANFIC MASTERLIST!!
This has been a massive, ongoing project of mine for a while now in which I am endeavoring to catalog and categorize every fanfiction I’ve ever bookmarked. I fear this project will never be complete as I'm always reading and bookmarking new fics but I’m going to share it anyway.
Inside, you will find links and summaries to the fanfictions I’ve read over the years on both AO3 and FF.net. Each fic is sorted by the specific whumpee that they center on. So there’s a page for Danny Williams, for Mike Warren, for Lucifer Morningstar, and many many more. The fics are 90% whump with a touch of fluffy ones thrown in too. This list is based on the fics I’ve read and bookmarked so it leans heavily on my favorite whumpees and my favorite tropes.
I’ve been working on categorizing every fic by its tropes (so theoretically you could search for say seizure fics or sick fics) but that’s taking me a loooong time because I have to reread every fic in order to determine what kind of categories to make and to look for the specific tropes. So for now you’ll have to make do with the fic summaries and using the search function. When it’s done, each whumpee will have their specific trope categories so you won’t necessarily find the same tropes in each category but it should help narrow down the fics better once I’m done. This is an ongoing project for me.
The list gets updated all the time so check back in every now and then. There might be something new.
I do take suggestions of fics to add to this masterlist but please keep in mind that it may not end up on the list. It's nothing personal I promise. I just can't add every single fic in the world.
Here's the link (note that it opens best on desktop browser because it is large):

Was just spoiled on a major character death in the new season of the Ark and I'm devastated 😭
ME TOO!! I just saw it earlier and I swear to GOD if this show doesn't pull a Daniel Jackson and bring them back right the fuck now I am gonna freaking riot. I'm gutted. I quit. I haven't even watched it yet and now I don't wanna.
for @crash-that-helicopter-week might i interest you in a fic here and a fic from the archives?
[from the archives: "Over the Edge" on Ao3
Buck struggles with the emotional aftermath of his breakup with Tommy, caught between hope and heartbreak. When a dangerous cliffside rescue sends him face-to-face with his ex, their unresolved feelings resurface, culminating in a near-death experience after a helicopter crash.]
Kicking Up Dust in Dreams
[wc: 1183; angst with a happy ending]
It’s been a problem since Tommy was a kid – the nightmares.
He’s always been wound tight, anxiety spinning up his spine every time the darkness would swallow the light. In the quietest moments, his mind was the loudest, and the night was the quietest of all.
They usually carry a story. One woven with the worst stress of the season – a bad grade or tests, a broken glass that would mean an ass whooping from his dad, kids that bullied him standing guard at the back of the school every day after class.
Time only made them darker, shifting them from familiar worries to monstrous unknowns. Battlefields and gunfire, smoke and ash, lost lives and following orders and shoving the parts of himself that feel most human into a box in the back of his mind.
At night it comes unglued. When he can’t keep it locked tight, when his guard is down. They never get better, only more confusing, pulling parts of his deepest fears and shoving them together.
Horror doesn’t come close to describing things his mind concocts at its weakest – when stress is highest and exhaustion pulls him into sleep so heavy the dreams threaten to keep him under.
Tommy knows tonight will be a disaster, he can feel the anxious energy rumbling under his skin, skittering across the tense knot at the base of his spine, the stiffness deep in his shoulders.
Evan’s been watching him, eyes laced with worry, brow creased just slightly, like he’s already bracing for pain.
“Eddie told me about a new 30 for 30 – we could watch that?” Evan offers as he sets dim sum in front of Tommy at the table. He’s already wrapped in a worn hoodie, tea steaming from his favorite mug, steeped to just the right rosy hue.
“Yeah,” Tommy says. “Sounds good. You don’t have to be so nervous, babe. I’m not gonna break.”
He doesn’t think.
“I-I’m not,” Evan so clearly lies. He heard about the call, so he knows – the losses, the delays that led to them and the way Tommy blames himself. “I just wanna snuggle on the couch, is that to-too much to ask?”
He’s trying to keep his voice light, playful. Tommy doesn’t fight it, leans into the comfort like a childhood blanket, warm and cozy, soft and gentle.
“Never,” Tommy grins. “That’s perfect.”
They migrate to the couch slowly, more tea made, extra blankets stuffed in Evan’s arms, Tommy’s favorite movie candy already on the table.
It hurts, in a way, to know how much Evan would do for him – sometimes he thinks he doesn’t deserve it.
Evan doesn’t let him think it for long, though, when they curl up beside one another on the couch. He tries to keep sleep at bay, just a little longer, but the exhaustion wins out like it always does and he falls into sleep before they even reach the ten-minute mark.
It happens in slow motion. Tommy’s out of town – visiting an old Army buddy, Charlie, up the coast – when Eddie calls.
It doesn’t make sense – why would Eddie be calling him? Why would he need to without Evan? Something must be wrong, something must’ve happened, something’s going–
“Eddie?” He answers the phone, voice tight and distant, like it belongs to someone else. He can’t hear what’s on the other end. He strains, trying to find a voice, one he knows from drunken nights in the backyard, countless spars in the garage, off-pitch singing at karaoke trivia.
“Tommy?” Eddie sounds like he’s shouting, like he’s desperate, even though Tommy’s right here. It garbles, twists with static. Disappears.
The line goes dead and he turns back to the living room where the television is on. Charlie’s looking at it in terror, eyes wide. Tommy starts to follow his gaze and the screen grows, expands, twists and morphs until he’s somehow inside it.
The whir of helicopter blades circle above him, chaotic and out of sync, tipping dangerously away before spinning back against itself.
He doesn’t know how he knows but he does. He can feel it. Evan’s in there.
“Evan!” He calls, voice desperate, eyes laced with tears. They push out the dirt that’s kicked up from the helicopter hovering, circling beneath it like a blood trail left behind.
He’s running before he can stop himself, legs pumping across the forest, guided by the failing rotor blades and the plummeting cockpit.
The moment it collides with the earth, he feels the ground rumble beneath his feet. A dark cloud mushrooms from the downed helicopter and exhales with the air around it, fanning outward covering the clouds in dust and ash.
“Evan!” Tommy’s shouting, wailing as he tries to reach the machine, tries to reach the love of his life.
But–
He’s not getting any closer. He’s barely moving at all. His heart’s racing, lungs clawing for air, throat tight, sweat pouring from his temples, but he’s still at the mouth of the forest.
He can hear him now – Evan’s voice echoing in the distance – calling for him, broken and horrified and other-worldly. He’s in pain, he’s suffering, Tommy would do anything to reach him, would die if it meant Evan would live.
“Tommy!” Evan’s voice is louder now, gaining momentum. It snakes out of the forest and slams him in the chest.
“Tommy–
–Tommy, wake up!”
Tommy jolts awake, chest heaving, eyes wet and wild, muscles so tight they’re starting to cramp. Strong arms hold him tighter, warm muscle presses against his back.
“It’s just a nightmare,” Evan soothes, fingers brushing over skin so soft it hurts in an entirely different way. “I’ve got you.”
Tommy latches on until his knuckles turn white, tears still streaming down his cheeks.
His brain’s nothing if not consistent and the nightmares that plague him always do the most damage when he’s already down – why did he think today would be an exception?
But Evan’s here, still firmly wrapped around Tommy, still murmuring soothing assurances in his ear so gently it aches.
“Sorry,” Tommy mumbles, voice thick. He was exhausted before he fell asleep and dreams like that are hardly conducive to anything resembling rest.
Evan presses a kiss to the top of his head and whispers, “Shut up. Don’t do that.”
Tommy chuckles and nods, “Yeah, okay.”
“Are you?”
“Am I what?” Tommy asks, breath coming easier now, chest loosening with the final wrath of tension smoothing out.
“Are you okay?” Evan asks as Tommy sits up, turning to face him.
“No, but…yeah.”
Evan nods, leaning in for another soft kiss before standing. “I’ll make us some more tea.”
“Thank you,” Tommy says, and he means for more than just the tea.
“I love you,” Evan says easily. He pauses in the hall and his eyes trace over Tommy, like he’s verifying he’s still there. Still whole. “Chamomile or hibiscus?”
“You pick,” Tommy says, watching him go. “Love you, too.”
Evan if the nightmares grip him every night, he’ll take them if it means having Evan every day, and for now, that’s enough to get him through at least tonight.
characters that get sick and hide it, the way wild animals hide all signs of weakness to avoid becoming a target. they take efforts to look normal and healthy until something finally snaps, a fever spikes, the sleepless nights of coughing and feeling like death catch up to them.
characters that get sick and make a huge fuss about it, wallowing in heaps of blankets and being pathetic while their friends humour this behavior and dote on them.
characters that go from the first to the second. they used to have to hide any sign of weakness to survive, but now they're in a safer environment and they realized that their new friends would shower them in attention and comfort if they were sick. now they make up for lost time, and their friends, aware of how they used to be, are all happy to indulge them.

I realize that a lot of your posts are queued, but it's really funny how I'll be awake at *checks time* one thirty in the morning, and I'll see a post of yours that is not even twenty seconds old. and for a moment, we are both awake.
Lol yeah I do queue pretty much everything but I am often also online way too late at night XD There is often a good chance that I am also online with you at 1:00am 😂
Whoa okay hold on. I've loved Midnight Texas for years. I even read the books. But never did I notice Manfred's black ring, nor did I ever think of that being an ace ring. Which is crazy cuz I wear an ace ring myself. Manfred is 10000% asexual, and everyone who says otherwise is just wrong lol. Thank you so much for this! (If you couldn't tell, I'm trying to be so normal about this. Is it working? I don't think it's working. Whoops.)
Yaaaaas!! Come be unhinged with me over this!!!! Any character that I see consistently wearing an black ring on that finger in particular, especially a black ring that looks exactly like mine, is immediately hit with my "you're now asexual" headcanon beam. Bam! Manfred is now ace! And it's just so much fun considering his character as being asexual. So fun! I love it! And I'm glad you love it too!! Yay!!
Thank you for sharing all the Midnight Texas gifs. They got me intrigued and I managed to track the show down. I'm about to start season two and I am loving it. Thank you for my new current obsession!!
Oh my god my PLEASURE!!! I'm having a lot of fun with this show. I am just finishing up season 2 myself! Wow you got through it so fast! Ahh!! I'm glad you liked it!!!!!!! It's such a good show. I'm mad it got cancelled. I love Manfred and the whole concept is so cool. I'm a big fan of psychic supernatural shows and the whump that comes with them. And François is so hot. Jeezus.

one thing I LOVE about non-con is whumpee in dishevelled clothing to actually imply that the non-con happened
the collar of their shirt scruffy and uneven
buttons not fully done up
BELTS!! either completely gone or ripped or undone
smudged make-up (or someone else's make up on them)
maybe the way others find out about the SA is because whumpee's clothes slip to reveal a bunch of hickeys/bite marks/bruises
torn or stained clothes in general
haphazardly layered outfits to cover as much skin as possible
or maybe whumpee is found somewhere and from the state of their clothes it is embarrassingly easy to piece together what happened, maybe they try to fix themselves up and the others let them because it is so terribly obvious that no one wants to take away their last shreds of decency
(bonus points if the whumpee usually takes great care to look presentable and being seen in this state is very unusual of them and immediately makes others worried)
i DO believe that a good writer can make mischaracterization work. oh there's a character who doesn't normally cry? figure it out!! disect the character. make the situation cryable for them. make that character cry ugly tears even if it goes against their very nature. YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK!!!
A great piece of advice I've seen is "Don't fixate about what the character would never do. Think about the circumstances that would drive them to do this, even if they wouldn't normally."
something about the sound of a belt buckle being undone aggressively makes whumpee flinch every time. they never know what it means but they cower all the same and whumper finds that just so beautiful.

Personally I like to see it go even further: blindfold them altogether, give them a good shove and make them stumble forward actually blinded until they bump into someone and don't know if it's friend or foe, and they can't try and hide how hurt or scared or unsure they are because they're too busy finding their footing, off balance in the dark
