sorry we're glazing baelor too much i think so i want to point out that dunk standing up to aerion in the hedge knight is as much about egg as it's about tanselle. it's apparent maekar is a seriously negligent father and egg has one scene with baelor where he's being scolded for running to dunk instead of baelor. this is an impossible demand because the castle is too far away but the narrative reason for this choice, i think, is that at this point egg has more faith in dunk to do something about aerion over members of his own family and he's being proven right in his belief here with the way baelor dismisses him. the scene starts with egg calling him 'uncle' (âAnd I had to run for Ser Duncan, uncle, the castle was too far.â) and ends with, âAs you will, Your Grace.â because that's what this is to baelor, it's a political headache. and to me it doesn't matter whether baelor knew precisely why egg hates his brother so much because what this reveals is that egg must go to this hedge knight he met on the road four days ago over his own family. plus the only time egg can talk about aerion abusing him is in the presence of dunk whom he's come to see as someone he can rely on over his brothers, father, and baelor as well. âAerion is your brother, and the septons say we must love our brothers.â is mhm. considering what's going to happen the following morning with maekar. it's a bit ned beheading that deserter and then dying the same way.
obviously he's not bad, he's just one of grrm's good men whose goodness is constrained within westerosi social mores. and baelor too is meant to be a father figure for dunk once ser arlan dies. my case for this specifically rests on dunk's story about being knighted by ser arlan with no witnesses. obviously the fact that this is a lie does not matter beyond how the telling of it informs dunk's characterisation, because even a sacred vow doesn't mean anything over personal conduct, and is not what makes one a knightâa major asoiaf themeâbut also important that the only confirmation of dunk's knighthood comes from baelor vouching for him during their first scene. dunk would not be legally recognised as a knight in westeros if baelor hadn't been able to recall ser arlan. after which baelor & dunk make a narrative pair against maekar & aerion. and ser arlan's lessons are what move him to assault a prince of the realm to defend tanselle so it's only fitting for baelor as ser arlan's substitute to defend dunk's life over it and while knighthoodâin the form of all the high lords present at ashford who refuse to take dunk's sideâhas been proven to be little more than institutionalised violence, baelor's individual decision here is enough to save that ideal of a true knight for dunk. so the novella opens with dunk burying ser arlan and finding egg at the inn, after dunk relents to egg's request he thinks: 'i'll teach him the arts of battle, the same as you did ser, might be one day he'll make a knight.' then it finishes with baelor's funeral and dunk finally agrees to take egg with him permanently - the suggestion here being that he'll be repaying the debt he feels he owes baelor. and what he won't know until much later is that he'll teach egg to be a good king, better and more egalitarian than baelor would've been had he sat the iron throne.
CW: Rape, incest
[O]ne need not argue Chinatown as either a celebration or as a radical revision when it can clearly be seen as both. The film is perhaps most famous for the âMy sister ⌠My daughterâ scene in which detective Jake Gittes (Jack Nicholson) brutally slaps seeming femme fatale Evelyn Mulwray (Faye Dunaway) into a confession he had not anticipatedâthat she has been raped by, and had a daughter with, her father. Each slap emits a seemingly opposite truth: is the young girl Evelynâs sister or her daughter? It is revealed that both sides of the binary are true, undercutting all convention, expectation, sense of coherent order. The scene suggests the pivot or lever by which the film operates. It is not either/or, but both.

I am unsure how true it is but I have seen some people talk about it. Do you think they are trying to draw parallels between Daemon and Ormund in the show? Like I could be wrong but the whole blood supremacy thing was attributed to Daemon throughout the series, which makes sense to some extent because of dragon riding ability [I guess Nettles situation is a bit ambiguous but overall its not entirely discarded] but. Ormund? Him being a racist came out of nowhere for me. Or maybe its just me but I also saw the Rhaenyra x Daeron parallels when they kill for the first time on insistence of Daemon and Ormund respectively. Idek but it looks like the writers are paralleling them whether its the intention or just a by-product of making Ormund the main villain of the season is another thing.
Penny for your thoughts? <3 Thanks!
It does seem like the writers are establishing parallels between Daemon and Ormund such as the one you mention re: Rhaenyra and Daeron (and perhaps their extremely calm reactions to receiving mail), but to be honestâŚwhile Daemon certainly does plenty of unsavory things in canon, Iâve never understood the fandom insistence on categorizing him as a blood supremacist beyond the scope of whatâs typical for the Westerosi aristocracy (because there IS a baseline here). Heâs certainly never said anything like this that I can recall:
Viserys III expresses very similar sentiments in the books, but in contrast I did find Ormundâs dialogue a bit jarringââWe are the superior menâ struck me as something of a phrasal mismatch akin to âincestuous aliens.â Up to this point I had considered HOTD the best of the three shows at mimicking the booksâ diction, and I suppose this new development could be due to the fact that GRRM is no longer involved?

I bore Viserys three Targaryens. But with the last, my last... I wanted him to be a Hightower.
New look at Alys Riversâ dress from the upcoming new episode of âHOUSE OF THE DRAGONâ
sad because we might never see harry and finn side by side :(
He could play Daemon II Blackfyre
does ormund hightower share similarites with frollo from the disney movie?
I had to go to Wikipedia for this because if I have seen the Disney film it was ages ago and I donât remember it and I havenât read the source material for sureâŚwell HOTD does seem to be going for racist Catholic zealot with Ormund, but as far as I recall heâs characterized very little in F&B so this seems to be the showâs extrapolation from the fact that his seat is located in the same city as that of the Faith of the Seven.* Of course this proximity does not ensure unity, as you probably learned from my recent post lmao. That is, to me Ormundâs most memorable trait in F&B isnât really about him but rather concerns (future HOTD spoilers, kind of) his son Lyonelâs passion for his similarly-aged stepmother Samantha Tarly, which she cleverly leverages after Ormundâs death during the Dance in order to mostly maintain her position as de facto (and later de jure) Lady Hightower (because the High Septon declares their union incestuous, prevents their marriage, and unsuccessfully insists she âremove herself from her stepsonâs bed and take vows as a silent sister as penace for her sins,â but thirteen years later the next High Septon allows them to wed)
*Once the Great Sept of Baelor is built in Kingâs Landing the Faith moves its seat there instead
still not over lucerys's crystal clear HV delivery like forget lord of the tides rhaenyra you birthed a god-ordained enunciator. they need him on the PA system in volantis transit centers
