clay calling bloberta "worthless" because that's how he feels about himself vs bloberta calling clay "filth" because she feels filthy inside. compare this to the blessed union, all the way back in season 1, where clay says the following about bloberta:

and bloberta responds by literally cleaning clay's body:

although the manner in which they each project their deepest insecurities onto the other is similar, and another example of them being "perfectly wrong" for each other, exacerbating each other's worst qualities in every possible way, there are also notable differences between the ways clay and bloberta perceive the other. bloberta knows clay's "true nature," his abusive and self-centered personality, and stays with him regardless both because of the social forces preventing her from getting a divorce and because she also buys into the idea that she's "worthless" without him. clay, on the other hand, completely ignores bloberta's interiority, and associates her supposed worthlessness directly with her gender. he resents her for being seemingly happier than he is and assumes this to be by virtue of women being more simple and easy-to-please than men, unwilling to acknowledge that she is just as miserable as he is.

clay and bloberta are consistently depicted as characters with similarities and parallels who are nonetheless distinguished by their respective gender roles, and, importantly, the power these roles imbue them with. while bloberta holds a certain amount of emotional power over clay, this is far outclassed by the material power he holds over her. also consider how orel depicts both of them in his stop-motion movie; clay as monstrous and frightening, bloberta as a mere object.
