Tbh this kinda thinking is big in some of my favorite crafting groups online. Like I love shit like visible mending and looking at aesthetic repairs on furniture and junk journaling and using trash for art projects, crafting supplies exchanges.....the artistic and crafty communities I've seen really embrace this mentality and I'm so delighted when these groups/movements gain popularity and traction

i am banned from eating my herring inside. they make me eat it on the smoking area by the loading dock, under the theory that it already smells bad there. but it was raining today which was preventing my breakfast, so i was feeling sad and hungry and then i realized that there was a large cardboard box in the dumpster from a previous delivery. like a fridge sized box. so i fished it out of the dumpster, then tipped it on its side and had a nice little cardboard cave to watch the rain and eat my fish in. which was a great experience. very soothing. very zen. at least until the security guard from the day before stepped outside to smoke. then i tried hiding from him by crawling deeper in the box, which unfortunately did not work. instead he saw a sort of damp sniveling pale hairless creature eating fish in a box, and delivered the verbal killshot of "good morning, mr. smeagol." which is how my day was ruined before 8 am.

The same kind of algorithms that let "AI" bots respond so convincingly and simulate another person can still run off a set of data that would fit in one single computer, rather than constantly communicating in the background with a giant baby-eating water-poisoning monstrosity. It would just limit that single bot's pool of knowledge and memory, you know, like how a brain actually works anyway. If you just want a simulation of one fictional character, it does not need access to the entire internet's sum of knowledge every 15 seconds. It doesn't need to also know everything ever written about geopolitics or space engineering. It would in fact be super fun to suddenly be surrounded by machines that can simulate chit-chat like the fun sci-fi space computers can, if they weren't forced to operate as global spyware hiveminds. I would not mind a little robot that just contains the basics of conversation and 10 terabytes of knowledge on one singular topic. That's what we should be making. That's how you avert Terminator 2 Judgment Day. Lots of little hyperfocus robots instead of one big hitlerfocus robot.

It's really funny to take Spanish with people from different Spanish-speaking countries, because the ones from South American countries are like "Yeah no one uses vosotros, we don't know what it's doing here" and the ones from Europe are like "If you don't give our beloved second-person plural its due respect, the Hounds will find you"
