For unknown reasons I'm having a really bad time with fertility this year for my snakes. I've only 7 viable eggs or of 3 clutches so far, with a 4th female due to lay soon.
But it does give me a good chance to show how you tell viable-or-not in eggs that appear good to the naked eye.

We're finally about to get some rain so once I'm back from the veterinary conference next week I'll be getting my garden prepped. The weather has been so absurdly mild that I might just start planting
The miners lettuce (native) and bittercress (invasive) are being allowed to take over my mulch as their shallow roots seem to thrive atop the weed cloth. Both are edible and I like their flavor.
The storksbill/filaree, while apparently also edible, is being viciously eradicated as the seeds wreak havoc with Alyssum and Ruckus' fur. It's also choosing to grow in my walkway so it chose violence first.

Bondie is trying to be a mother! She will need support for any branches that produce apples this year, and I'm not going to let her set too many. But she's trying!
My yet unnamed apple has yet to really start leafing so I don't know if they're going to try this year as well. But they do have a little friend making themself cozy
Carl has made Many More Children this year!
However, growth-wise he continues to be a very strange tree. He wants to be spindly. He wants to have 20 foot long limbs with a huge cluster of branches right at the very end. And he wants these branches to grow straight up. Or straight down, preferably onto the ground itself.
Just... literally straight down.
So he got a fairly major chop today. I can't reach the top of him currently, but this weekend I'll get a ladder out there and further curb his extreme enthusiasm.

Got the first of 3 root canals done today, and I want to rip my face off because it hurts so bad. Hooray for crowded teeth requiring them to jam everything super hard into my gums, having to be renumbed 3 times because I burn through even the strongest stuff that fast, and a hypermobile jaw that results in pain in the nerves that run to the teeth in my lower jaw.
So, apparently feeling like someone is shoving a burning icepick into your eye if you make the mistake of chewing on the side with the temporary crown is Not Normal and actually Bad.
Tomorrow I get more rads taken to see if the tooth is a lost cause.
So they lowered the crown height, which helped some and while I was there they asked me a fun question:
Have you been taking your antibiotics?
... what antibiotics? you never gave me antibiotics?
We didn't??? Here's these antibiotics, take 1 three times a day.
So yeah, I've been taking those. And my tooth pain has... changed. To up higher in my face. And the downside to working in the medical field is that now I'm like "Is this a tooth root abscess working it's way up the bone?" Probably not, but still....
in Finland, it is illegal to kill a bear when it’s hibernating. If you ask a hunter why that is, a number of them will tell you it’s wrong simply because it is the law, and they don’t make a distinction between what is right, and what is legal. Most people like that are perfectly normal, decent and respectable people, just like the rest of us.
But if you ask people who think about things, the answer is vague. Killing a hibernating bear would just feel… impolite? You can’t fucking shoot a man when he’s sleeping, that’s just fucking rude. It’s just not the right thing to do.
Long before hunting laws were established in Finland, you couldn’t kill a sleeping bear, and what commands you is something older than law: tradition. Even at a time when hunting was a matter of life and death, and a bear fighting for its life is mainly a matter of death, you just didn’t kill a hibernating bear, you have to wake it up first. Hunters risked their lives, the lives of their brothers and everyone in the hunting party, who were friends, family and men that they loved, to give the bear a fighting chance.
In the modern time, the hunting season of bears is in the summer, for the warmest summer months. There are many reasons for why they are allowed to tread safely in autumn and to sleep in peace through the cold months, almost all of which are rational and scientific, and do not touch the old traditions.

Animals have two, both the spark of life and nature that enables them to act. A human being also has the third, one that makes them a person, personality, itse, literally “self”. A bear’s soul is somewhere else when they are hibernating - there are two words for “hibernation” in finnish, one of which is talviuni, “winter sleep”, and that is the one that bears have - and if you kill a sleeping bear, their soul is not in the body, it is still out there, and it can find you, and as a revenge for killing its body, Ghost Bear will kill your entire fucking family.

there’s at least one mean bone in my body
First corn snake clutch of the year is on the ground! Ralen gave me 7 fertile looking eggs and 8 slugs. Pard's fertility issues strike again. But here's hoping for at least a few little leopard pattern motleys.
Depending on if she eats today or not I'll know if Sova is getting ready to lay. She was paired to Bansidhe so every one of their offspring so be at least lavender based. Goal for this pairing is a female wraith or two to hold back for Leren. I am determined to make phantom moonstones.
Tourmaline got paired to Luri in my attempt to make red factor blizzards/see if red factor even expresses in charcoals. I think she's in blue right now.
Larune locked only once to Peter and he has shown no interest since. Still hoping I'll get some nice onyx charcoals out of this pair.
Dusk has shed so in a week or two I'll see if Peter is interested. This would give me a second clutch of onyx charcoals.
This year is not shaping up all that great.
Sova gave me... 1 egg that was fertile, and 6 that are not. The first year she bred she gave 15 eggs, of which 9 were fertile. So she may also have some fertility issues.
Tourmaline is in blue, but I can't palpate any eggs in her so she may have nothing but slugs at the moment :/
