Sev leans by the doorway, a rare fond smile etching onto his lips as he watches your form rise and fall as you breathe, tucking yourself into Boss’ side on his bed. Never in the creepiest ways that one could ever think of, Sev enjoys watching you sleep. It's a peaceful, well-deserved sight—especially after field missions with them, or merely a tiring, long day.
Especially now. All five of you touched down on Coruscant earlier this dawn, exhaustion latching and hovering stubbornly over your forms as you delivered post-op briefing to command while it was still fresh.
You don't talk much, but Sev can perfectly distinguish your silence; you were hiding your exhaustion well. The Deltas weren't sustaining any injury thanks to their sturdy katarn-class shell, but it was easily made as yet another of their longest missions. You're only a Padawan, but you kept up with them to your very best. Your dedication and compassion shine through and through—it’s what made them love you in the first place, and relished your leadership.
“They awake yet?” Scorch's voice trails behind him, and he turns to see the demo expert approaching him in the hallway, clad only in a sleeveless shirt and stupid pajama trousers with tooka prints. His hair sticks in various directions, seemingly just waking up too.
Sev shakes his head, keeping to his place. Scorch rests his elbow on Sev's shoulder as he joins the spectacle, secretly enjoying the way you curl up against Boss' side, your leg tangling with his under the blanket.
He sighs wistfully. “Stars, with a view like that I don't ever wanna wake them. The rest is well-deserved.”
“Been telling myself that,” Sev scoffs. “Fixer's gonna flip everything in this house if they're not eating. It's 1600.”
“Did he even sleep?”
“He did.”
Scorch lets out a skeptical noise. “Not a full cycle.”
“Nope.”
“Knew it,” Scorch snorts, stepping into Boss' bedroom—it remains a weird concept where they have their own room in your apartment that he hasn't quite gotten accustomed to—and crouches by your side of the bed. “Hey, sleepyhead,” he mutters softly.
You stir, but only just slightly. Stubborn. Though he knows you're not awake in the slightest bit, Scorch stifles a smile and gets into the cramped bed also, the frame creaking under his weight. The noise wakes Boss up instantly, his eyes snapping open.
“Scorch,” Boss grumbles.
“Good morning,” Scorch fake-yawns, mocking his own sergeant's sleepiness while locking his arms around his sleeping commander from behind.
Sev, still in the doorway, gives up watching and sits carefully on the end of the bed. “Somewhere in the galaxy 1600 hours is morning,” he deadpans.
Boss reaches around and smacks Scorch upside the head. The younger vod doesn't even flinch, continuing his sleep. “Don't.”
Scorch snuggles further into your neck. “No, I'm enjoying this. Haven't got my turn.”
“You’re getting your turn tomorrow,” Sev rolls his eyes.
“How about we do big cuddle night tonight?”
“That's Benduday only, di'kut.”
Boss scrubs both hands over his face—he just woke up and got served with vode banter he's never prepared for. Truly the worst thing to wake up to (affectionately).
But then he looks at you. How peaceful you look. Suddenly he shares the sentiment between his brothers. The way your eyelashes rest over your cheeks, your eyes moving beneath your lids in REM. Still in REM, Boss thinks amusedly to himself. Very deep sleep. He understands. He caught you nearly toppling over into sleep during the ride back to Coruscant, refusing to catch a shut-eye, stubborn as ever.
Eventually you stir from the noise. Sev places a hand on your calf, thumb slightly pressing along your skin to gently massage you awake. Scorch tightens his big strong arms around you, causing you to let out a single noise of protest as you gradually come awake.
Their hearts melt at the same time. Hearing your voice, even in the slightest bit, is always a gift. A godsend blessing, even.
“There they are,” Sev coos as soon as your eyes flutter open. You melt further into Boss.
“Hey,” the sergeant chuckles quietly, feeling your body warming up. He raises a hand to sign. “Good sleep?”
You smile, a radiant sight to see for the boys. “Enough,” you answer your beloved sergeant, glancing over your shoulder only to see Scorch's stupid dopey smile. You pat his hand that's clutching your shirt in his fist. “Hello, Scorch,” you sign with your free hand.
“Hi,” he beams at you. “You look so peaceful. We hate to wake you.”
“Fixer probably won't hesitate,” Sev scoffs, announcing his presence at your feet.
You grin impishly. “His patience is limited.”
Sev rolls his eyes, poorly stifling his fond smile. “Better go get him before he gets you.”
“He won't dare.” You peel Scorch's arms off of you and hop off the bed. Sev offers his hand to help, and you peck Sev's lips as you pass. “I am his commander.”
He lets go of you reluctantly as you skip out the door, the tips of his fingers trailing across your skin. The sensation fizzles deep underneath your skin as you tread your path to the dining area where you see Fixer’s large form hovering over the caf brewer.
You tiptoe into the kitchen as silently as you can, and when you're standing behind him, you slowly wrap your arms around him. The gesture draws a deep chuckle out of his chest, your cheek buried into the material of his bodysuit. Fixer always wears it no matter where, explaining to you once that no one would ever know when the next op is where they need Delta Squad.
“You’re finally awake,” he says with a pleased tone, turning around to grant you with his rare smile and pulling you flush against his chest. You slump sleepily against him. “Did you dream?”
You shake your head no, but you use your hands to clarify. “Not really. Passed out.”
Fixer leans in to peck your lips, his glasses nudging your face a little. “Good. You don't wanna know how many times you almost fell asleep walking during that long journey to exfil point.”
You squint at him. “You counted?”
“Guilty.” An even rarer laugh escapes Fixer as you smack at his chest playfully. Scorch eventually filters into the kitchen, looking brightly awake and without an ounce of sleep left in him. His eyes light up at the sight of food containers on the table.
“What are those?” he awes, dragging a chair and plopping down in it.
“Left by their neighbor.” Now it's Fixer's turn to wrap you in his arms from behind. You relish in his warmth that radiates from his body. “That Mon Cala grandma.”
You smile. “She's kind like that.”
Scorch looks up at you. “Open?” he signs.
You nod encouragingly. And as soon as he does, mixed fragrance of butter and oil and sweet tang fills the air.
“Those banana fritters?” Sev pops into the kitchen, snagging one for himself before Scorch could fully open the container, the latter squinting at him.
“Perfect for afternoon caf,” you grin, nudging Fixer to get the cups on the other side of the kitchen while you detach the caf pot from the brewer. With Sev stealing his seat, Scorch moves around the table to offer you his first bite, placing a loving kiss on your forehead that he hasn't gotten around to do earlier as you bite down on the sweet tangy goodness.
“Hate to break it to you lot,” Boss waltzes into the kitchen with a datapad, nodding gratefully at you as you fill his caf. “But since we already have enough sleep, new infopack just arrived from Advisor. We have exactly 24 hours left before reporting back to base. Possibly even less, if Mygeeto needs us sooner than we thought.”
Scorch sighs, sitting on another chair. “Having abnormal difficulties? Call Delta Squad, the best commando squad in the galaxy! Summon them earlier and take away their remaining shore leaves for stealth ops, delicate extractions, HVT elimination, and cleaning up Bacara‘s mess.”
Fixer scoffs, pulling out a chair for you. “You try to switch his place, vod.”
“Mm, no thanks.” Scorch chews on his fritter for a while, watching you sit and pour caf for yourself. Boss stands near Sev, Fixer behind you. He knows Fixer is the most possessive out of them when it comes about you, a staggering opposite of his rational upbringing. “But… we sure we're going there?”
Fixer frowns at him. “‘Course.”
Sev sips his caf. “S’not like we can refuse an assignment.”
“Yeah but it's Mygeeto, Sev. That's where the Marines are, and we all know what that means.” Scorch lets the words sink in, and he's glad that his brothers finally get it. He turns to look at you, concern painted behind his eyes. “Cyare, you know we don't doubt your skills, right?”
“It's dangerous out there,” Boss supplies for you. “Unknown terrain. Harsh weather. Even the Marines are outfitted with a different kind of gear to sustain against the snow.”
“Not even other battalions get assigned there, ever.” Fixer rubs your arm to provide you a little bit of comfort. “The 21st received special training themselves.”
“Different kind of breed,” Sev adds, glancing to see your reaction.
Now, they know you know. They made sure that you know which battalion is which, their specialities, along with their respective commanding officers as well. A vast, insightful look into the grand army. These are only reminders, a light nudge for you that you can back out from this one if you don't think you can handle the weight.
“Never been to Mygeeto before,” you hesitate, “It’s cold?”
“Affirmative,” Sev signs to you, his movement careful as if placing his own concerns for you in them. “Our armor will hold. You put on thick layers.”
“If you choose to come,” Boss catches Sev’s signings. His tone drops to give you consideration. “You don't always have to be present in every single op.”
You sigh, signing rapidly to convey your determination. “I'm coming.”
Scorch claps suddenly, startling you for a bit. “Well, I know better than debating with my commanding officer.” His not-oily hand laying over yours on the table, your demo expert smiles handsomely at you. “We'll watch your back.”
Fixer nods contemplatively, his mind already sprouting out possible scenarios. “As long as you don't accidentally flashbang them.”
“That was one time,” Scorch whines, bottom lip jutting out at you. “I'm sorry.” He scowls at Sev once the sniper kicks him under the table, his glare saying you're disgusting.
You cover your mouth to hide your silent laugh. “It's in the past, Scorch.”
“24 hours,” Boss reminds you all again, patting Sev in the back before taking his caf, steam swirling above the cup. He passes you a warm smile. “For now we enjoy our R&R before they take it from us.”

Shoutout to non-monogamous folks who aren’t in closed relationships!
- solo polyamorous people
- relationship anarchists
- people in open relationships of any kind
- single non-monogamous folks
- folks who don’t want an amorous relationship
You are not a slut. You are not “afraid of commitment”. You are not “still looking for the right one”. There is value and beauty in your relationships, amorous or otherwise, and you deserve to be celebrated!
the word "romance" as inherent definition of partners still pisses me the hell off
breaking news the non queer person hates the amatonormative notion that romantic relationships are inherently partnerships.
(PT: breaking news the non queer person hates the amatonormative notion that romantic relationships are inherently partnerships.)
This is amatonormativity.
Not all partnerships are romantic, and I'm so tired of people saying "partner" and only thinking of romance.
Intimaships, casual relationships, senseships, passionate friendships, queerplatonic relationships, alterous relationships, waverships, and a whole load of other types of partnerships exist.
Additionally, not all people who are romantically interested in each other consider their relationship to be a partnership. For example, I know a solo polyamorist who doesn't consider any of their relationships to be partnerships.
The conflation of "partner" and "romance" should be seriously deconstructed.
So through my university I've been able to get my hands on a lot of scholarly research around, nonmonogamies, polyamory, sexuality and all sorts of gender, race, class intersections on those topics.
Anybody interested in me posting them? Maybe even commenting on them as well?

What Is Solo Polyamory, The Strange New Relationship Trend On The Rise?
In the ever-evolving world of love, the popularity of solo polyamory is on the rise for various reasons
In the ever-evolving landscape of love, there's a relationship style that's capturing the curiosity of romantics and pragmatists alike: solo polyamory.
What is Solo Polyamory?
Solo polyamory is a relationship philosophy that combines the openness of polyamory with the independence of flying solo.
At its core, it's about practicing ethical non-monogamy without necessarily nesting, cohabiting, or merging life plans with a primary partner. Solo polyamorists value personal autonomy and prioritise their individuality while forming meaningful and consensual romantic or sexual connections with multiple partners.
Rather than fitting into the conventional relationship escalator (think dating, moving in together, getting married, and having kids), solo polyamory lets individuals define love on their own terms. It's not about rejecting commitment but about reimagining what commitment can look like for different people.
How Is Solo Polyamory Different From Other Relationships?
Here's how solo polyamory compares to other relationship styles:
Monogamy: The obvious difference is that monogamy involves a single partner at a time, while solo polyamory embraces multiple relationships.
Traditional Polyamory: In traditional polyamory, people might have multiple partners and could be part of a polycule (a network of interconnected partners). These relationships often include shared living arrangements or long-term commitments. Solo polyamory, by contrast, maintains a more individualistic approach the concept of cohabiting being absent in the equation.
Polygamy: Polygamy involves being married to multiple spouses simultaneously. It is often culturally or religiously rooted and can take different forms. Solo polyamory on the other hand, involves having multiple romantic or sexual relationships while maintaining personal autonomy.
Why Choose Solo Polyamory?
People are drawn to solo polyamory for various reasons.
For some, it's about finding a balance between connection and freedom.
For others, it's a way to explore love without adhering to societal pressures or timelines. It's also an empowering choice for those who want to prioritise their own goals, growth, and happiness minus the pressure or the labels of being in a traditional relationship and still enjoy fulfillment.
Is Solo Polyamory for You?
If the idea of combining meaningful connections with personal independence resonates with you, solo polyamory might be worth exploring. It's a relationship style that celebrates both love and individuality, proving that you don't have to choose one over the other.
Whether you're curious, intrigued, or ready to dive in, solo polyamory is a reminder that relationships can be as unique and dynamic as the people in them. After all, the best kind of love story is the one you write for yourself.
