Look at these beautiful, big #sunchokes c/o #SmallScaleFarms !!! @smallscalefarms They were delicious & are easy to prepare - just as you would a potato. Also called #jerusalemartichoke , although neither from Jerusalem, nor an artichoke! These are #tubers from a type of #perennial #sunflower - I grow them on my property as well! Oh yeah...I went there! I made #calzones for #friday night #dinner with the #family ! We received our #SmallScaleFarms #freshproduce box #subscription this evening... @smallscalefarms So, I used a gorgeous #redbellpepper #babyspinach & #zucchini inside. I also added sliced, spicy #cacciatore #genoasalami & #mozzarellacheese . Last wee I added an extra pizza dough in my box, which I froze for this week. It is from #StJosephBakery in St. Catharines & they are a local vendor from whick you can purchase their fabulous & local products right through the Small Scale Farms website & have it delivered with you weekly box. So awesome! @stjosephbakery What I love the most? It's delivered right to my doorstep! #standwithsmall #supportlocal I made 3 large calzones from the dough, by cutting it into 3 pieces, making 3 rounds from them & rolling them out thinly. On one half, brush some tomato sauce or paste, add spices, stack fillings, leaving about an inch a around without fillings. Fold other half over top, and seal edges together by folding, tucking & pressing together. Brush with beaten egg. Bake at 375 degrees F for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown puffed up & crisp on the outside. Serve with tomato sauce on the side to dip. These were awesome & everyone had their fill! #Sauteed #Kale as a #sidedish with #dinner last night. Not just one variety, but two varieties of kale were included with our #SmallScaleFarms #freshproduce box #subscription this week. Yes, delivered right to my doorstep! @smallscalefarms #standwithsmall #supportlocal There is #curlyleafkale & #dinosaurkale - I never met a kale I didn't like! Chock full of #vitamins, #minerals & #fiber - it's always a winning choice! Wash & rough chop your kale, while you preheat a large frying pan on medium high heat with the oil of your choice. This night, I used some olive oil & a little butter. Saute kale until tender, seasoning with #seasalt , freshly cracked #blackpepper & #chiloflakes I also squeezed in the juice of 1/2 a #lemon . I also added the meat of a piece of fried chicken I had leftover from cooking lunch & stirred that in. An easy, quick easy to cook up kale & enjoy it too! If you've never tried cooking #taro , you are certainly missing out on some serious deliciousness! I've cooked it in numerous ways, but in this instance, I'm showing you #mashedtaro - they are every bit as good as mashed potatoes... ...In my opinion, they're even better. Wearing disposable gloves to handle the raw #taroroot , wash & peel. Cut into large chunks & add to salted pot of water. Bring to a boil, turn down to a simmer & cook to just knife tender. Strain, mash & season with sea salt, black pepper & butter, as desired. Add what you like to this basic foundation, but delicious all on its own. Where did I get this taro from? #Rutabaga , anyone? For this #sidedish , I simply washed them, peeked them (saved the skins with other scraps in the freezer for stock), and diced them. As you know, I have a toddler, so these are bite-sized cubes with her in mind. Boil in salted water, until knife tender. Add sea salt, black pepper & butter, as desired. Why would they do such a thing? Because @kentheritagefarms KNOWS you'll taste the difference between what you've been buying at the grocery store compared to the high quality #meat they're providing you with. Last night, I cooked up the Black Angus ground beef very simply in #patties , so we could really compare the difference of what we've been eating vs this meat. I just added some #seasalt #blackpepper #freshparsley & a pat of butter 🧈(which I usually do, but probably didn't need to with this meat!). The flavor & texture was COMPLETELY different! What an enjoyable patty, whereas it would have probably just been "meh" with store bought meat. THIS is how meat used to taste, when I was a youngster...boy, have things changed. You could tell, it was JUST meat without fillers & so very flavorful. Not all #gristly . I'll definitely let you know about the bacon & chicken, when we try it.
