Was just gonna do some core work and some rowing intervals today, but my friend Andi told me what the workout for the day was at a local CrossFit gym (spoiler alert: itās what I did today lol) so we decided to do it at some point today.
I hate dumbbell work, especially with two in any kind of front rack and squat - so I was dreading this one all day.Ā
The 15ā²s felt so heavy! The core definitely felt worked with each row and often times during reps I had to complete the push up + row each arm portion, then stand up and rest before getting into the thruster. Was just so gassed.
I just tried to think of the total reps as sets of 5 so as not be overwhelmed by the total number and this worked well. Pleasantly surprised by my timeĀ ācos I honestly thought itād take me closer to 30 minutes than 20.

I know I already posted this picture (#newfilterwhodis) but I wanted to share my motivation epiphany from my #GoldsFit class this morning! . Let me set the scene for you. I walk into my first class and there is the trainer, a guy who maybe wasnāt in the best shape but still obviously knew what he was doing, and a young, very fit and athletic guy. And then thereās little me who is on day 3 of lifting anything, and feeling fairly pathetic for going straight for the 5-pound dumbbells (which were MUCH smaller than what the guys grabbed). . Now the trainer was amazing and never once made me feel bad or lesser for what I was lifting! She explained every move for me, so I wasnāt lost, and was very uplifting and encouraging the whole time. Iām not sure I could thank her enough!!! (#shoutout) . But that and my usual mantras werenāt cutting it today. I felt weak, pathetic, and hating myself for thinking I could do a class like that. And then something funny happened. . For those of you who have seen Parks and Rec (if you havenāt you should because itās amazing, even if only for this episode), Iād like to call your attention to season 5 episode 11, āWomen in Garbage.ā When Leslie and April get stuck and canāt move a giant fridge, a man from the restaurant comes out and has a bit of a huffy fit. He says something along the lines of (pardon my paraphrasing), āthey need to send bears but instead they send canaries!ā So while doing my best to power through a burpees, in my head I imagined these guys and this trainer getting exasperated over having to be in a class with a sad little canary. . Instead of giving in to that and letting myself sink lower, my next thought felt like #LeslieKnope herself speaking to me! I then said to myself, āNo. I refuse to be a canary!ā AND IT WORKED!! While the #manmakers were kicking my butt, while pushups about did me in, and while all the lifting reps made my arms scream (btw, they havenāt stopped) I kept telling myself that I refused to be a canary!
