Not all comic book fans but most comic book fans are running the fun of comcis man and I'm so fucking tired of it at this point like why do you even read comics if your not happy with them like stop making everything absolutely misreable because you cant just stop being a twat!
Also the same elitist pricks I'm talking about also are so fucking horrid about piracy like your classism is absolutely destroying our hobby not everyone can afford nor access comics and thanks to you majority of old un archived comics are now becoming lost media!
Also doesn't help that most comic sites are virus riddled and hard to navigate like one server please that doesn't have malicious viruses and constant ads 24/7 would be grand! 😭😭😭😭😭
Something I love about comics is the fact that there are so many different versions and renditions of each character. So much content has been released since the 40s, and comics as a whole have gone through ages of developments. Because of this, My Batman and Your Batman could be completely different people. Or maybe there’s not a difference between them at all, except that My Batman is grittier and Your Batman is kinder. Maybe you’ve read a comic that I haven’t, and now we view the same character in slightly different ways. There’s so much out there that each person’s understanding of a character is uniquely shaped by their own experiences with them, and I think that’s very real and very beautiful.
Fandom Problem #14,711:
Do you ever just fall in love with a character from fanart but know NOTHING about them because they're from a comic book franchise with lore that tends to change repeatedly, new things get added, stuff gets taken away etc.
But you still love them dearly and wanna write stuff about them but don't want them to come off as OOC and have the fandom hate you because you completely mischaracterized their blorbo?
(This is about Dick Grayson btw. Not in the DC or Batfam fandom but he pops up on my dash and I think he's lovely 😍 but I don't know anything about him and I don't know where to even start because there's so much to cover 😭)
Fandom Problem #14,582:
Honestly, kudos to the comic artists who TRY to appeal to the female gaze. They usually miss the mark a bit, but you tried to make things fair.

"wfa is stupid/dumb" did you know that wfa is one of the only accessible batman mediums with a majority of the batfam in it? did you know that people who aren't familiar with these characters aren't going to buy every new issue because the comicsphere is confusing and figuring out how to actually buy comics is confusing and people rarely discuss it? did you know that, by trashing on wfa, you make comic fandom more unapproachable?
i kind of talked about this when i made my post about fandom and ai, but it's hating on the easiest sources of media that turns a lot of people away from fandom initially. when they come in with an appreciation for a piece of media and constantly get backlash because it isn't good or that it's the "comic for babies", that doesn't make them feel like they could contribute at all. that's insulting. nobody likes to be insulted.
is that to say that there isn't valid criticism about wfa? no. but simply saying it sucks does a large disservice to new batman fans that were able to learn about more obscure characters from a source that wasn't a lot of money. we can have mature, reasonable discourse and not just pushing anyone down that likes it.
this is just so personally annoying to me, because i only got into batman because i read wfa, then my comics love grew as i spread out. the people who like wfa will continue to like the batman canon as they find more of it in whatever they pursue, but if you nip their enthusiasm in the bud then you will never see them do that.
comics elitism is crazy
i was once in a discord server and someone sent a comic panel they found where the text was in Portuguese and asked what even was it. They did think it was spanish even though it wasn't but I don't blame anyone for not knowing the difference between two languages they don't speak at all. Then someone replied to that and it was treated like such a weird thing that the panel wasn't in english, and so they wondered why were these characters speaking something that wasn't english. They did find the original comic in English and they still wondered why would the image of that panel would even exist spanish [again: it was Portuguese]. And that's when I realized it wasn't some elaborate weird joke but that apparently these people were genuinely puzzled as they never once considered that comics are translated into different languages. They never once considered that not everyone speaks English and so the panel was just taken out of a Portuguese [or spanish as they thought] translation of the comic.
And so if anyone needed to know: comics are translated to other languages. As long as its popular enough it will be translated and sold (I've had problems of no one selling the issue i wanted cause they just didn't think it'd have enough demand to justify the cost of translating and printing). But comics do get translated. And if not officially cause its not popular enough there's someone out there in the internet who still translated their favorite comic in their free time and put it for others to read.
