Ryland was not only the only scientist they had for back up, and the best one there, but he was most definitely easy to silence and very expendable. Eva Stratt literally said (no hate on her I love her) Grace had no immediate family, but that he didn't have a dog either. That meant that cleaning up evidence of that they took Ryland was so much easier. No immediate family means you don't have to break the news to them or silence them. No pets means you don't have to pick them up and take them to a shelter. Using Grace was the best option overall and we really can't blame Stratt. She wanted to save people, and we could see that she was no stranger to doing things like this. Dr Ryland Grace was the perfect target for a last minute change of plans.
