So, I read The Wrath of Maul. I’m reading Lockdown right now.

Am I hyped for Obi-Wan? God yes.

Aftermath: Redux

Working on backgrounds once more, I did this angsty thing again. I regret nothing and everything.

I haven’t forgotten about the ask blog, I promise, life is just a nightmare hah hah; the angry plant will return. In the meantime, enjoy me being chuffed about my progress, and the influx of LoTR content.

She Who Weeps

The Lady Of Mercy

Nienna the Compassionate was an Ainu of grief, mourning, mercy and pity. During the song of Eru Ilúvatar, her music bore these things into being on Arda, welcoming grief and mercy to Middle Earth. Hers is a lesson of endurance of the spirit, hope, and, of course, pity. Her halls were raised upon the western cliffs of Valinor, and gazed out beyond sea to Walls of Night. She wrapped herself in shimmering gray robes that shined like tears.

When the Two Trees were in creation, her tears watered their roots to bring them life. She would play an important part in the reclamation of Melkor from his three age long imprisonment in the Halls of her brother’s domain, Mandos. While she had wept deeply and mourned the destruction of Arda wrought by her fellow Ainu, she was taken by pity at his begging when he sued for pardon from his sentence. Of all the Valor, Nienna spoke most on his behalf. While his inevitable betrayal must have caused her even greater anguish, the lesson of Nienna is to not regret compassion—but to learn from it.

Melkor left a great ruin, as is his way, when he fled Valinor. The greatest being the destruction of the Two Trees. Nienna wept at their mounds, and while her tears could heal, she could not cure them of Ungoliant’s poisons. However, between the efforts of herself and Yavanna, the Ainu of green life, the trees bore one last fruit and flower, which would become the Sun and Moon.

Of the Maiar in Valinor, her greatest pupil would be the future istar Olórin. She would teach him mercy, pity, and patience—and he would use these lessons to gift wisdom to the Elves in Valinor. He lived by example of Nienna, bestowing mercy upon the Children of Ilúvatar, taking counsel with them and leading them out of despair.

Long after Sauron had come to power and fallen in battle, the Valar chose five of the Maiar to travel to Middle Earth as Istari, to help all those who opposed the shadow of evil in Arda. Olórin was chosen—and would live his life in Middle Earth, in the guise of an old man and wanderer. The Elves would come to call him The Grey Pilgrim, or Mithrandir. The Dwarves would name him Tharkûn. But the Men of Arnor would name him Gandalf. And Gandalf is he.

FËANOR OF THE NOLDOR

“For Fëanor was made the mightiest in all parts of body, and mind: in valor, in endurance, in beauty, in understanding, in skill, in strength and subtlety alike: of all the Children of Ilúvatar, and a bright flame was in him.”

Fëanor of the Noldor. He was a linguist, lore-master, warrior, and the most prolific gem-master of his age; creator of the Tengwar script, and the Palantíri. He was considered the best in body, mind and countenance of the elves.

Fëanor was also the creator of the three Silmaril jewels; before Sauron and the one Ring, the Silmarils were the most deeply desired forged objects of the First Age. He made them from the light of the Two Trees of Valinor, and shined with a brilliance beyond anything in the known world. Fëanor wore them proudly, and came to greedily covet his creations. Melkor (later known as Morgoth, Valar of Ruin, master to the future dark lord Sauron) also coveted the Silmarils and eventually stole them, after he and Ungoliant (the great spider, mother of Shelob) destroyed the Trees of Valinor. When asked to give up the Silmarils so that their light may revive the two great trees, Fëanor refused—and took it even further. Taking up his sword, he—and all his sons—swore a blood oath to kill any who would keep that which was rightfully his: the the Silmarils. His brilliance and fury would put in motion everything that would lead to the first Kinslaying among the elves, the destruction of the Noldor, the fall of half of Middle Earth into the sea, and the greatest deeds and tragedies of the First Age. Under the deceptive guidance of Sauron, his grandson Celebrimbor would go on to forge the elven Rings of Power.

Most Beloved of the Elves

When the Awakening of the Elves was nigh, Mandos (The Judge, Ruler of the Dead) foretold that when the Children of Ilúvatar opened their eyes for the first time, they would be greeted by starlight. And stars would be the dearest and most beloved light among them. Varda Elentári, Queen of the Valar, took to the greatest labor seen within Adar; taking dew from the vats of Telperion, the White Tree of Valinor, Elbereth bore the brightest and most brilliant stars in the sky. She placed them individually, and crafted constellations, hanging them reverently in the darkness above Middle Earth. When the long, arduous work was done, the Children of Ilúvatar wakened on the shore of Cuiviénen and beheld the shining eternal beauty of starlight.

She became the most beloved of the Valar to the Elves, kindler of their dearest ephemeral memories. After the death of the Two Trees, Teleperion and Laurelin, she took the last flower and fruit from their branches to Aulë ( The Great Smith, father and Maker of the Dwarves), who placed them in vessels. Their light outshone all the stars in the darkness, and Varda set them in motion to become the Moon and the Sun.

Varda Elentári is the most revered of the Valar, most by the Elves, and also by all Free Folk who know her name. She has long answered the prayers of many; even Samwise Gamgee, as he called for her aid to brighten the Star of Eärendil in the boarder of Mordor. Invoking her name brings swift condemnation upon the heart of evil spirits, and all who would follow them.
