#silmarils

it's the 4th Age, and Feanor is telling his daughter and niblings the legend of the Silmarils.

“Erm, well…” Feanor felt great pride (his daughter had pronounced Silmarils perfectly, even though it was a new word for her). But he also knew he needed to explain the next part delicately.

“I was in Mandos, spending time with Grandfather Finwe and Grandmother Miriel,” he admitted. (At this, Alwe cuddled up closer). “And...well, everybody had realised that the Silmarils were too beautiful and powerful. Everybody wanted them, and some bad things were done, while trying to retrieve them”.

“What kinds of bad things?” Tarvo asked.

“...lots of fighting, and stealing,” Feanor said in a low voice. “So, the Silmarils had to be taken to safe places, where nobody could steal them away again”.

“And that is why one is in the sky, and looks like a star!” Ladi said, delighted with his own understanding of the story. “Our grown up nephew Earendil is guarding it!”

“That’s right,” said Feanor. “And for the second one, Maglor hid it at the bottom of the ocean, so that Ulmo could look after it”.

“Our Maglor?” Alwe asked, surprised.

“Yes,” Feanor said, giving Alwe a small smile. “Your big brother”.

“And our cousin,” Tarvo said, pleased.

“Who hid the third one?” Nareth asked.

“Your cousin, Maedhros. Yes, your biggest brother,” Feanor told a giggling Alwe. “He hid it deep underground”.

“Oooh, where the moles would be able to guard it,” Ladi said happily.

“The...moles?” Feanor raised his eyebrows.

“Yes! Our cousin Maeglin likes moles,” Ladi explained.

Cloak update

I went off of the Silmaril design I saw on the Tolkien gateway, but I used cashmere in gold and silver so that it would seem to glow. I thought I could put a third one on the hood when I got to it? I need to do a banner at the bottom of the tree connecting the Silmarils, then at the top pick a design to cover the meaty part of the shoulder, then do a triangle to connect the top and bottom so it makes a semi-circle. So if anyone has any Noldor/Feanor forward designs for suggestion, love to hear them. It’s a Silmarillion cloak but we all know how big that book would be without the original problem child.
