she's platonic about it but in my opinion, stratt 100% treats grace as her dead wife. she keeps a tacky fox trinket in her coat pocket. there's a framed photo of him in her study . he's grinning goofily in it (bc he's a dork). new guy like: is that her husband? / no, dumbass, it's dr. ryland grace, 1/3 of the hail mary mission. / oh, fuck. were they... ? / yeah, it's unclear. black-and-white montages of grace messing around in high-level meetings play every time stratt contemplates committing more environmental crimes. she looks up at the night sky and vaguely wonders if he's enjoying his space ramen. that's her dead wife. she killed him.

crucially this conversation ended with her saying “what if you never get a girlfriend but you get old and die and then the grave next to you is a girl and then your spirits make out in the cemetery” and i had to be like “ok let’s talk about something else” instead of “that would be sick as hell i would love to be a ghost making out in the cemetery”

It's so funny that when Alex expresses incredulity that Occtis/Kattigan is popular, Sam jumps in immediately to articulate the aesthetic appeal of a big gruff hairy competent older man with a slender coddled pathetic younger man, like. Likely thing for a Teorwick shipper to say.

Still entirely accurate

One moment I liked was that Carl and Grace's time having fun shopping, adding so much duct tape to their cart, playing bowling with stacks of aluminium foil, and wearing safety glasses at the checkout doesn't have the typical comedy beat of "acting suddenly embarrassed once someone asks what they're doing." Because this film is about the importance of having fun and building friendships as an essential component of human existence, and bonding with strangers is one of the purest experiences we can have. To undermine it with the typical punchline of "this kinda stuff is cringe" would undermine the thematic center of the narrative itself, and I'm glad the film is mature enough to realize that.

#I think it's important that the last thing grace hears from a human is carl telling him #'you know who you are' #because who grace is is an optimistic teacher who befriends those around him #and that's what saves earth (and erid) (via @ladytharen)
