Ring set with a mouse design amulet
New Kingdom, c. 1479–1425 B.C.
Gold, glazed steatite (soapstone). Inscribed with the cartouche of Thutmose III.
In the collection of The Metropolitan Museum.
why don’t more people use decorative light switch covers? outlets and light switches are so aesthetically unappealing and there are so many ways to make them cooler but I never see anyone use them. there was a baseball themed light switch cover at my ex’s house from a former tenant’s child’s room but that’s it. it’s not like they’re costly, you can just take them off and paint them or put a sticker on them. it’s such a easy way to add a little art to a room without having to worry about finding a frame or a stud and it spruces up something mundane.
like this is cute as fuck why don’t I see decorative outlet/switch covers at every art fair
hot one today huh?

i see "Erid learns that Earth forced Grace into a suicide mission its freaked by it" but i don't think we explore enough how insanely horrifying Earth's situation would be for the Eridians
Erid's atmosphere is thick. It keeps much more heat in, and bc is so hot in there making astrophage fuel is super easy(just throw it on the ocean) They set up the Blip-A having a 70 year safe threshold before things started cooling dangerous amounts. When Rocky and Grace got there with the taumeabe and the solution to all their problems, Erid was just starting to feel the worst effects of the cooling
Earth didn't have any of that. Earth's atmosphere is thin and loses heat rapidly, the planet is already cold so making astrophage fuel is hard, it would take only 17 years for humanity to lose half of its population to starvation. 17 years is nothing to them, they might as well have been told earth had a only months to solve everything
Imagine the Eridians when Grace explains that humans had to make major sacrifices just to keep themselves alive for a fraction of the time Eridians had, Earth couldn’t affort to bring their astronauts home, it couldn’t affort to send other people, it didnt have the time, it didnt even know if the Hail Mary would work
Just Erid, looking at Earth and going "Oh you were terrified. You were terrified and desperate, you had no other choice, and yet what you did saved us too. You dont need to worry, we'll take care of what you lost, we know why you couldn’t keep it"

Reminder that Canada is fucking evil
An international tribunal has ruled that the Government of Canada’s current policies constitute an ongoing genocide against Indigenous Peopl
Teacher, call on me! Hebrew school, Bronx House, Washington Avenue, the Bronx, early to mid-1940s.
The Bronx House was established in 1911 to serve the large number of first-generation Jewish-Americans who had moved to the Bronx to escape the crowded conditions of Manhattan tenements. A Jewish settlement house in what was then New York’s most heavily Jewish borough, its goal was to improve the quality of residents’ lives by offering arts, education, and recreation activities within the context of Jewish communal values. In the 1920s, the programming of the Bronx House reflected the radical nature of many Jewish residents, teaching consumer education and establishing retail cooperatives, hosting union meetings, offering night classes in Yiddish, and featuring many left-wing Yiddish speakers in its lecture series. In the 1930s and 1940s, when this photograph was taken, it operated as a Jewish Community Center. The classroom seen here is decorated with posters supporting immigration and aid to Palestine. Vishniac’s photographs of the Bronx House were probably commissioned by the Jewish Educational Committee (a photograph by Vishniac at the same site appears in one of their pamphlets).

Candyland 1984/1997 board
DYK that's was the point of the game? It was invented by Eleanor Abbott for children hospitalized with polio. The disease would effect mobility among other things so Candyland focused instead on bright colors and engaging illustrations rather than complicated gameplay to encourage the imagination of bedbound children. This post, and this comment, is a testament to Abbots genius in when she made this game.
Although Candy Land started in a polio ward, its connection to the infamous disease was kept secret for 50 years. Its steady rise in popular
Some of y'all should frankly be much more concerned about the UAE.
#state religion? check#second highest gender imbalance in the world? check#88% of the population non-citizens? check#legally enforced secondary status for non-citizens? check#rape victims imprisoned for having illegal sex? check#fucked up electoral system where only chosen citizens are allowed to vote? check
Fueling an Arab-majority militia in Sudan that is carrying out a genocide against African-majority tribes? Check.
The UAE is a major US and UK ally in the Middle East, and that's why a lot of this bullshit is not being called out.
That's not true
It's not being called out because no joos
''what if you regret it'' then you will expirience regret - a normal and unavoidable part of the human expirience.
the more you twist yourself into a pretzel to avoid regret the harder it will hit when it eventually catches up to you.

Brutalist maze, Seattle
its called Freeway Park and while it is one of the most interesting single examples of Brutalism in the united states and im proud of it, it is so poorly designed in terms of public safety that it has been renovated twice(?) but continues to be geographically troubling, as its design has facilitated a lot of murders over the years. it was the subject of a funny but gruesome article in the STranger in 2002 called Topography of Terror. the city doesnt keep official tally of how many murders or assaults have happened IN the park but two men in their 30s were stabbed nonfatally during a robbery there earlier this year, for example.
Suspect that building mazes is perhaps not conducive to public safety, outside of minotaur isolation scenarios.
guy on a work call just accidentally said “have a nice freak-end” instead of weekend and now i desperately want that to be the new meme. have a nice freakend everybody
