this wasn’t requested, but I kinda wanted to write it, so here it goes:
The room was full of people that I knew, but had never spoken to. With my drink in my hand I looked for someone to talk to, someone that I knew. Everyone was chatting animatedly about work issues, how well the year had gone. Typical office year-end party.
My office colleague, Sally, was busy with a lawyer who worked a floor above us. I always knew that she had a crush on him, so I decided not to interrupt. I worked in the office a short time ago, so I didn’t really know many people. I stood by the bar watching my cell phone, trying to hide my desperation for not being alone.
A couple of minutes passed until I saw Evan approach the bar and order a glass of champagne. Judging from his way of walking and talking, he had drunk enough. While the bartender served him, he stared at nothing with a smile on his face. Really, he needed to stop drinking for that night.
I watched him for a while drink from his glass without noticing that I was at his side. He was completely drunk. When he finally saw me, his smile got bigger and he approached my face awkwardly to kiss my cheek. The smell of alcohol was tremendous.
He stared at me without saying anything until he realized it was weird. Uncomfortable situation, really.
What surprised me most was that despite being totally drunk, he was still handsome. He had the first button of his shirt unbuttoned, and he wasn’t wearing a tie. I had always seen it unblemished, so that look caught my attention. It suited him, made him look more relaxed.
"What are you doing here?" He said with a smile on his face "I never saw you at one of these parties before"
“That's because I started working just a month ago, boss” I was nervous, to tell the truth. I didn’t know how to talk to my boss totally out of himself.
"True!" he shouted, banging the table and laughing loudly. Some people turned to see us and I felt my cheeks flush. "Do you want to drink something? I could have another one of these" he said looking at his almost empty glass.
"Are you sure?" I said without thinking. I repented immediately. I was afraid that he would be offended or something, we should remember that despite alcohol, he was my boss.
He looked at me and with a smile said "Relax, I have it under control. You sure you don’t want anything?"
“Call me Evan, (Y/N), we’re at a party!”
I smiled shyly and felt his eyes on my face.
He looked at me for a while without saying a single word. I wanted to run out of there.
“You look beautiful... I never saw the freckles before” he said touching my cheeks “they’re nice”
“What?” Apparently he couldn’t listen, because he got closer to my face, making me sense the huge amount of whiskey he drank.
He rolled his eyes and jumped “I told you to call me Evan!” He cried. I felt like I was talking to an adolescent. A reaaaaally hot one.
“See? My name sounds so sweet coming out of your mouth” he was getting close to my lips “I wonder how they taste”
“Wow, stay there, big boss!” Someone shouted from behind “the lady is clearly uncomfortable, dude”
I was, but I also wanted to kiss him, to be honest.
“Don’t worry” I said to his friend “he’s completely out of himself”
“Yeah, he’s not usually...” the man started to apologize, but I cut him before he could end.
“I know, really, it’s ok. I think he needs a bed right now”
And God knows I needed one too.
The next Monday I walked into the office begging to be able to get into my box without seeing Evan. I knew he probably wouldn’t remember anything about Friday night, but it was weird anyway.
“I SAW YOU” Sally said sitting next to me “I saw you getting all sweet with the boss!” He whispered loudly “I fucking love that couple!”
“Shhhh! Sally!” I tried to shut her “he was completely drunk, totally out, and nothing happened”
“But you wish something would...”
“Well, I mean, he’s hot, and he’s...”
“Coming right here” she said opening his eyes widely “omg”
“Fuck” I said out loud. He was, indeed, walking straight to my desk. I felt my cheeks getting red in matter of seconds.
“Y/n, I need to have a second with you. If you don’t mind, Sally” he looked at her and she walked ot of my box looking at me with excitement.
“Yes, boss?” I tried to act normal but it clearly wasn’t working.
“I been told that I acted like a fool last Friday” he said directly to me “and I wanted to apologize”
“Yes, I do worry. I’m not sure if I can remember much, but Kevin told me I tried to kiss you. That behavior was totally inappropriate”
“Well, with all due respect, you were drunk, boss”
“I know” he smiled shyly “but I wanted to make this right anyway. So, this is for you” he handed me his presentation card, the same I had thousands of in my desk “and I told you to call me Evan”
He walked away from me and a minute later Sally was asking me what happened.
“Nothing, he said he was sorry, and gave me his presentation card”
“But... you have a lot of those already” She said grabbing it from my desk “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”
Her screaming made half of the office turn to see us “He wrote his fucking number! I mean, his personal cellphone!”
Thank god she said that in a whisper, or I wouldn’t have been able to work there anymore.
