Stop-Motion Moana

“We can rebuild her… We have the technology… We know the way!”

A few months ago I ripped apart a Moana doll and made it into a stop-motion puppet using a kinetic armature kit.  

The walk cycle above was the first thing I animated with this puppet, and was just a throw-away practice test with no green screen. I had never done a walk cycle in stop-motion before and soon discovered how difficult animating a straight-ahead cycle within a localized space with no retakes could be.

I showed the cycle to my dad while he was holding my Moana puppet in his hand and he seemed more impressed with this crappy test than the actual animation I did on the movie! I think the combination of him holding the puppet, and then seeing it come to life on the video before him was what blew him away. I guess that’s the appeal and magic of stop-motion. :)

I read that it’s best to have the foot joints nice and tight to hold the weight of the puppet, and have the arms looser.  It’s amazing how much weight those toe and foot ball-joints could hold for the falling poses:

You shouldn’t pet strangers’ dogs without asking either.

In Boston while waiting for the T, there was a woman with her service dog in full gear also waiting. Two young women went right up to the dog and the moment one of the women reached out to pet the dog, the older woman slapped her hand away and said “My dog is working, do NOT pet.” And I smiled because those young women were in the wrong.

One of my dog’s jobs is detecting seizures.  He gives me a few minutes warning.  If he can’t warn me because he’s distracted, I could fall and hit my head. 

I could die of a head injury because I wouldn’t have time to find a place to sit and sit down.

But, hey, a stranger gets to pet my dog. 

Here’s an article on what happened when someone pet a service dog and it DID distract the dog resulting in the owner suffering a seizure and injuries. 

For anyone who doesn’t feel like reading, here is the key points:

Hailey has multiple illnesses including Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and epilepsy. Her service pup in-training, Flynn, has the important task of alerting her roughly 10 minutes before she has a seizure. This gives her time to find a safe place so that she does not injure herself while seizing.

A while ago on a pet site I frequent, I found someone asking for help with a heartbreaking situation, asking for just 1k and yet still having no support pledged on the GoFundMe.

So a year ago I met my soul mate in college and my entire life crashed down around me. My ex boyfriend performed a gas lighting stunt ( personal sabatoge) with my family and friend circles after I expressed not having interest of getting back together with him. He continued his abusive behavior by the eating me with his AR-15. Which the authorities deem freedom of speech. While this was happening I left college due to several incidents of harassment from people I didn’t know and went to travel in my little blue Volvo with my now hubby. While my entire family and friend support got pulled from under me my car got towed while I was camping in Yosemite. I didn’t have enough money to get it out so I walked with my hubby across California back to the coast. I have been on the streets ever since then with no support from my family or friends ( I reached out and they all bullied me on Facebook and laughed). I am now 6 mo preggo and couldn’t be happier. Life has been really hard and I have just been praying for a miracle. My family said I can come home if I give away the baby and get my tubes tied (I’m 22). Both me and my hubby are good people who don’t do drugs and we are getting overlooked and slipping through the cracks of social services. I am reaching out to the subeta community because it’s the only social circle my ex didn’t sabatoge for help. I have started a go fund me and do not know if anyone would be open to sharing it amongst their friends family or church communities. I have none to turn to. I don’t know what to do. All I can do is keep my stress down and attempt not to have a miscarriage. Living on the streets is tough and the shelters are worse.

Hi, I apologize for the very late reply. Life has taken me in a direction for the worst as of late. I fell and broke my knee cap and the fathher is no longer in the` picture for a while. So in short I seriously need all the help I can get. So I would have no problem with you sharing it with who ever you feel the need to. If you have any suggestions on how I can improve the campaign I am open to it, I wanted to be discreet about the fact I am on the street, however I feel the time is past for discretion as I am now in desperation mode.
