While generalizing a hostile interaction into "harassment against queer people" certainly can be used to obfuscate that you mean something like "gay cis man being criticized for transmisogyny" or whatever, it's also important to keep in mind that a lot of trans women have "you need to be more inclusive" beaten into them over and over when emerging into online queer spaces and so will reflexively decenter trans women before they've learned to be transfeminist about it. So they'll also just say queer, or trans people, when they mean something they've seen happen primarily to trans women.

The way you can end up being complicit in harm to trans women, as someone with heightened transfeminist consciousness on tumblr, is by failing to recognize when you're looking at a trans woman walking on eggshells to avoid provoking backlash from her "community" and instead assume you're looking at someone dogwhistling transmisogyny. This happens. I've fucking seen it happen.
