My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". It took me a long time to figure out how to accept compliments. I’m still not entirely great at it. I always felt like agreeing in any way that I was good would be seen as bragging. And often times, I was right. People would give me shit for not deflecting their compliment. I feel like this is partially an artist thing and partially a woman thing. Sometimes giving a compliment is a power grabbing move. Accepting the compliment means not letting them take that power and they get upset. You have to come to peace with that. Compliments can be a social quagmire, but ultimately, don’t waste too much time on people who make you feel bad about yourself. Easier said than done.
