Since we don't have a history of blaming tramping disappearances on monsters, I would like to propose: we start blaming them all on the Canterbury Panther. Especially the ones in Te Tai Tokerau
I see your vision but the Canterbury Panther is just so well-explained to me (feral cats get bigger than people expect; people are bad at judging the size of unexpected animals at a distance) that I can't quite feel it in my heart.
The moose, however. There is great potential in the Fiordland moose.
