I'm familiar with these kinds of tropes! I have some thoughts, and these are just my opinions purely based on vibes, people are free to disagree:

Eric Forman: Dachshund

Donna Pinciotti: Bengal Cat

Jackie Burkhart: Papillon (the dog, not the French word for butterfly)

Steven Hyde: DLH Black Cat (stray that eventually gets adopted)

Michael Kelso: DSH Orange Tabby (technically a house cat, but the kind that his owners let free roam and cause problems)

Fez: Cockatoo

No one in this group gives off "golden retriever" energy, in my opinion.

Eric Forman | Dachshund:

Eric has "small dog" energy imo, but he's still loyal and protective where it counts;

Dachshunds are notoriously stubborn, saucy, and give a very sarcastic-appearing side eyes (speaking from expert experience, I own one) -- all of which vibes with Eric imo;

Dachshunds would fight (and lose to) a bear if it meant protecting their people, which reminds me of Eric nearly picking a fight with Casey Kelso.

Donna Pinciotti | Bengal Cat:

Donna is a known cat person;

Bengals are described as "dog-like" cats, which I think aptly describes Donna, who although very playful, affectionate, and loyal, occasionally withdraws and needs space;

Bengals also reportedly need considerable stimulation, which I relate to Donna needing to spread her wings and travel, go to school, and have a thriving career.

Jackie Burkhart | Papillon:

Jackie has 'fancy, luxury lapdog' energy;

Papillons were originally bred to be companion dogs to wealthy noblewomen in Europe, they have dainty features and long, luscious fur;

For their small size, Papillons are athletic, spunky, and eager to please, all of which I associate with Jackie and her quest for fame/popularity.

Steven Hyde | DLH Black Cat:

Of the tropes posed by the question, Hyde's the only one that really has 'black cat energy' imo, I feel this goes without saying;

I specified 'stray cat that gets adopted' because of his history and streetwise attitude;

Despite superstitions, black cats are not bad luck or signs of ill-omen, they're wonderful creatures that have a lot of love to give (much like Hyde).

Michael Kelso | DSH Orange Tabby Cat:

While Michael may love dogs, his personality lacks qualities I associate with dogs, I think it's much more likely that he'd be a house cat that is irresponsibly allowed to roam the neighborhood;

I picked orange tabby cat for the broadly accepted belief that orange tabby cats are less intelligent (I know this isn't true, but it fits for the purpose of this tropey question);

Cats that are allowed to free roam neighborhoods are extremely destructive and cause a lot of problems (e.g. killing wildlife and if intact, contributing to the creation of more stray cats, to name a few), all of this brings 'Kelso' to mind.

Fez | Cockatoo:

Fez is showy and dramatic in a way that just felt more bird-like to me, especially if you've ever watched one of those David Attenborough narrated nature shows, the male birds are always very flamboyant;

From what I know, Cockatoos are very affectionate and demanding of their owner's attention, feels very Fez-like;

They're extremely intelligent, mischievous, and dramatic, and after so many scenes of 'I said good day!' I just felt it connected.

Red Forman | Scottish Terrier:

Aesthetically Red may evoke something like a hound dog to me, but I think his personality is actually much more like the dignified, stubborn Scottish Terrier;

Scottish Terriers are often labelled as aloof, independent dogs, and tend not to get along with other animals easily, though they tend to be very loyal to their families -- definitely makes me think of Red;

Scotties are fiercely protective and are noted to be the type of dog that is fearless in the face of a challenge or threat (even if said threat is much bigger than them), but they are also noted to be very sensitive dogs that respond well to positive reinforcement -- also makes me think of Red!

Kitty Forman | Pomeranian:

Despite my temptation to pick a kitty for Kitty, I think a Pomeranian suits her more -- their tiny size, noteworthy fluffy coat, and (endearingly) yappy qualities bring to mind Kitty for me;

Pomeranians are highly energetic, bold, friendly, and confident -- all of these I think apply to Kitty, who is very much an extrovert and loving with her family;

Pomeranians are also extremely affectionate lapdogs and bond very closely to their people, and I think it goes without saying that Kitty is one of the most affectionate characters in the show.

Bob Pinciotti | English Bulldog:

Bob's hair might look like a poodle's ass, but I definitely think the English Bulldog suits him more, personality wise and because of their short, stocky build;

These dogs are gentle and sweet despite their somewhat tough outer appearance, and reliably enjoy being couch potatoes with their favorite people;

They can quite brave and with their muscular, stocky build they make decent watchdogs, which I think fits Bob who acts pretty 'bulldog-esque' whenever he's protective of Donna.

Midge Pinciotti | Abyssinian Cat:

Midge was a little tougher to pick for, but I landed on Abyssinian Cat;

They're friendly, social, playful cats that crave activity and companionship and can get along with a lot of other animals, people, etc.;

However, they can also be destructive if they're left to their own devices and get bored -- which one can argue is something that happened with Midge!

Leo Chingkwake | Ragdoll Cat:

Leo is probably even more of a stray cat than Hyde, but I think his personality is aligns a lot with a Ragdoll;

Social, affectionate, and relaxed, Ragdolls are pretty easygoing cats that can adapt to a variety of environments and family dynamics, and I think Leo is about the most laid-back person on the show;

They have some playfulness and can behave almost like dogs (following people around, which Leo tends to do from time to time), but they are still pretty mellow and are not considered 'high energy' cats.

Elle strictly follows the traditional rules of femininity as dictated by southern californian culture, with special interests in the color pink, fashion, and her parter.
