"After years of enduring severe pain from a broken back navigating the obstacles of the health insurance system… I learned that UHC would be holding an annual investor conference in NYC on Dec. 4 2024.
In Nov. 2024 I traveled from outside of New York State to Manhattan. I then emailed UHC leadership posing as an investor at a firm managing over $50 billion in assets and requesting information about the conference. Unlike my previous interactions with insurers, I received an immediate response within an hour.
I traveled to NY ... with the intent to shoot Brian Thompson. On the morning of Dec. 4, 2024, I shot Mr. Thompson in Manhattan and he died. When I did so I understood that my actions would place him in fear of death or serious bodily injury. I knew what I was doing was illegal.”

Okay, so I’ve been trying to organize all of my thoughts and feelings about how this unfolded (outside of the legality frustrations lol). Sorry I’m rambley but I just had to get my feelings out under the cut. (Tw: personal lol)
I think that seeing the plea come through yesterday made me a lot more emotional than I anticipated. I’m not ignorant to the fact that Luigi has long been up against some serious big boy time, but I didn’t think that it wouldn’t me so hard. I have been very very aware that he was likely going to do life in prison, but yesterday really reminded me why I got behind this case in the first place.
I’ve been very closely following this case since before we knew Luigi. However, I felt even more connected when he was caught. I’m also a young person that has battled similar chronic pain. The experience is the most isolating thing I’ve ever experienced. To be a seemingly healthy young person who carries the burden of living in extreme pain, doctors, parents, friends, etc. can’t really empathize with the experience, so it becomes internalized. I’ve had several phases of my life where I felt like not a single person was listening to me agonize over the pain I was experiencing daily because it’s so easy to delegitimize an invisible disability. I could talk about this in so much more detail, but just know that it is an extremely lonely road, and it’s very difficult to find support that isn’t disguised pity.
And this perpetuation is only made exponentially worse by the US healthcare system. It is absolutely abhorrent that we have so many people who are sick and fighting to advocate for themselves in their own heath, only to be delegitimized all over again by insurance companies if they actually are able to receive care, all for the purpose of profit.
Here’s a story of mine from recently. Over two years ago I had a planned surgery (not my first lol) because I had an injury in my area of disability that was making my pain unbearable and the injury needed to be repaired, even if my condition couldn’t be. I woke up from surgery to find out that a completely different procedure had been performed on me. A procedure was performed on me that I didn’t even know existed, and without my consent. Even worse, I got one of this doctor’s only bad outcomes from this procedure, and it’s increased my disability related pain significantly. I did rehab therapy for a year and a half, and I will still be treating the fallout from this surgery for the rest of my life. A few weeks ago, I got a hospital bill from early 2025 for $6,000. There was a clerical error from my insurance where they canceled my coverage for 20 days, and the cost of those rehab visits (5 visits) was $6,000. Instead of correcting the issue and paying for the services that I was covered for, they offered to give me a credit for my premium that month. I’m still responsible for that bill (and fighting it). I am responsible for a bill for medical services that I was covered for, and for treatment that I only needed because I was a victim of medical malpractice. What the fuck find of system is that??
I remember immediately feeling empathetic, righteous rage when this crime occurred. I think of the Max Weber quote, “A government is an institution that holds a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence.” What are we to do a society when the government has created a system to profit off of keep us sick, in pain, broke, and without recourse? I understand aversion to violence, and I very clearly understand the concept of law and order. But what is to be done to see change? It’s an impossible issue. Our government not only has a monopoly on the human right of literal health, but they also have a monoloply on use of violence and how violence is to be punished in their eyes. It’s a losing battle. It’s a system built to keep us in a cage.
And piling onto the heartbreak for me is that I have dedicated my life to the legal system. It almost feels personal to have watched it be weaponized in such a way, all for the purposes of showmanship and selfish greed. I know that this is not a novel occurrence and people have been victimized by the system for centuries, but watching the abuse in a case that hit so close to home was jarring.
Anyways, I feel a bit discombobulated. I pretty much knew that this ultimate outcome would happen, but I was shocked to be hit with such a wave of anger and sadness when I reminded of the reason that we even got to this point. Our system is sick, and it seems like there’s no cure for it. In my opinion, Luigi will always go down as a symbol of hope and advocacy against an impossible systemic operation.
I hope everyone is taking care of themselves, and I’m not going anywhere. I love you all dearly, and feel free to keep the asks coming! Back to positivity over here now that I got all that off my chest😅continue to advocate in ways you are able for Luigi, for prison reform, for fair trials, for access to healthcare, for disability visibility, for mental health, and for basic human empathy. The world needs it.
bringing back this sweet video of him, because I know he is not the person they make him out on the news. today has been a lot for everyone, but I can't even begin to imagine how nervous he must have felt reading his statement & getting this of his chest.
I still have a lot to say & to gather my thoughts, but I feel so bad for him and will always feel that way. I KNOW, he is a good person. I just KNOW it. I started this blog because I really wanted other people to see that too, with the quotes said by his loved ones. One doesn't do something like this if they unfortunately hadn't given up on their life. He has so much potential. I know he will go on to do great things in the future. All of this feels horrible, I just wish him all the best and peace of mind most importantly.
so are you going to rub it into the faces of people who thought he was innocent now
honestly, don’t piss me off because if thats what you’re thinking about then you never had the right priorities. A man might spend the rest of his life in jail and this is what you are worried about…. To answer your question since you so desperately had to send it in my inbox amidst this fucking mess. NO.

Karen Friedman Agnifilo today talking to the press about Luigi’s statement:
“As Luigi explained in court today, he endured years of severe, debilitating pain following a broken back, while struggling to navigate our healthcare and health insurance systems. Like the thousands of people who have reached out since this tragedy to share their own experiences, he believed that the system had failed him and destroyed his life.”
He’s been treated differently from every other defendant charged with this offence in NY. However, thankfully, NY law does not permit a person to be prosecuted and punished twice for the exact same crime…. It’s also known as the double jeopardy law.”
FEDERAL CASE UPDATE: Karen Agnifilo confirms there is NO plea agreement between Luigi and the government.
Instead, the government submitted a letter stating what it believes the sentencing range should be: 292 to 365 months (That's ~24 to ~30 years. The judge could always go higher)
also they are setting up some sort of conference after the hearing…. they are probably going to talk to the press. nothing is confirmed yet… but first Brian’s family and the uhc executives being there and then this… saw someone say they completely backed Luigi into a corner and I AGREE. oh today will be eventful.

pleading guilty mainly benefits him by guaranteeing a lesser sentence than what he would get if he were to go to trial and be convicted. so for the federal case, the max sentence is life without parole. the plea deal would almost certainly provide him with a sentence less than life. the deal also saves him the stress and uncertainty that the trial would bring.
pleading guilty in the federal case also opens the door for the defense to argue double jeopardy again to try to get the ny state case thrown out, which wouldn’t go to trial if successful. but unfortunately, that’ll be left up to judge carro, who would definitely fight to keep the state trial moving forward. but the defense can file an appeal, argue that the trial would violate luigi’s rights, ask an appellate court to stop the trial, etc.
if the state trial still ended up happening, they could employ the EED defense and if successful, his max sentence would drop from life to 25 years if he’s convicted. post-conviction could also lead to tons of appeals, including double jeopardy again, to try to overturn a guilty conviction.
overall, the plea deal would almost certainly end in less time served no matter what happens with the state trial 🤷♀️
even with the deal though, he would still have a long road and fight ahead of him, especially because the PA case would move forward as well. this is far from over regardless :/
thank you so much for explaining this in more depth and detail anyone, I appreciate you so much for this </3.
I hope he stays strong he has a long road ahead of him, anything to get him a lesser sentence and to get him closer to going home. That will be a long time, but it’s better than spending the rest of his life in prison. All I know is that someone like him does not belong in a place there while you have actual evil people roaming around free…
exactly 😭 I don’t want to say we’re cooked but we’re cooked anyhow. It seems like after the state trial we won’t see this man again…. I am sure many appeals will happen throughout, he still has pa case. but after that we won’t see and hear about him to the extent we have now.
pleading guilty is part of the plea deal for the federal case. It’s something that I feel like people could have expected because it’s impossible to get a fair trial, with the state case going first. I wish him all the best, hopefully everything works out in his favour, he deserves to spend as little possible time in prison ☹️
I am really sorry anonnie for being inactive, I was busy with my job & life was lifing majorly. I didn’t feel like being on here…. I really appreciate you even taking the time to check up. I definitely haven’t moved on. I still care about Luigi as before, nothing will ever change about that, I also love this blog. All I know is I won’t leave I don’t know it’s sustainable to be active the way I was. But I will make something work because I know there aren’t a lot of people here & and I would never want to leave you all in the dust. Luigiblr is already a ghost town. I will continue to answer some asks these following weeks, before the trial. Thank you for patience </3
also could never move on from this man, just look at him :((((
