idea!!! you should write a story (maybe as like an addition to 'the perfect princess' story) where reader is still ben's little sister. maybe there is like an family event or dinner and reader ask ben or mal to invite someone....and who they didnt expect was for it to be max hatter, a vk. But in the end they see themselves in both reader and max. something along the lines of that!! I just thought it was a super cute idea π

A/N- I wrote this fic with the Perfect Princess series in mind, but it can also be read as a standalone. I hope it's similar to what the requester wanted, but I also could not imagine Ben judging Max at all due to his heritage after everything that happened with Mal. Also Tangled Thieves Pt 4 should be out in a day or two.

Max Hatter is sitting in the courtyard talking with the VKs when all of a sudden, his line of sight is covered.Β
βGuess whoβ he hears a voice ask, which sounds awfully familiar to his girlfriend. The other VKs ignore this act, having gotten used to these displays of affection over the past few months.Β
βHmmβ Max hums back. βCould it possibly be my beautiful girlfriend?β He asks, already knowing the answer.Β
Removing your hands from Maxβs face, you reveal yourself.Β
βHi there, Maxβ you say, beaming at him.Β
βHello, Princessβ He responds while getting up to give you a kiss. What once had been an insult from Max, was now his favorite pet name for you, after he had made sure you were okay with it of course. Β
βYou look extra happy today. Did something happenβ Max asks, curious about your day.Β
βBen and Mal are finally back from their travels! My family is hosting a welcome back dinner tomorrow and they said I can bring you! This means you can finally meet them allβ you exclaim excitedly. Β
Max had still not met your family since you wanted to wait for Ben and Mal to return home. You had not seen your brother in almost 2 years as he had been travelling to find more allies for Auradon.Β
βHave you told them about me yet? More importantly, who my father is,β Max asks, concerned about your family reactions.Β
βNo, I thought it was better to tell them in person. All they know is that I have a wonderful boyfriend who they are very excited to meetβ you say gently, taking Maxβs hand in yours.Β
βAnd that wonderful boyfriend is going to have to dress up for the dinnerβ you quickly add hoping Max does not notice.Β
Hazel notices this addition right away, having been listening in on your conversation after sheβd grown bored of whatever story Felix was telling.Β
Β βPlease tell me Max is going to be forced to wear some princely outfit,β Hazel laughs.Β
βMaybe you should get him a hat with a little crown embroidered on itβ Felix joins in.Β
βPlease tell me I donβt actually have to wear any of thatβ Max quietly asks you, trying to ignore his friendsβ amusement at the situation.Β
βNo, I was just going to try to get you to wear the leather jacket that I love so much. Thereβs not really a dress code, but any excuse to see you in the jacket is a good oneβ you respond bashfully, no longer wanting to look him in the eye.Β
βYou could have just asked, Princessβ Max smiles, fully enjoying your reaction, before placing a kiss on the top of your head.Β
βI know. But I also knew you would enjoy me asking too much, just like you are now. Canβt have your head getting too big for your hatβ you laugh.Β
βIf it did, you would just steal my hatβ Max grins.Β
Later that night at Beast Castle, Mal and Ben have finally returned home from two years of trying to form alliances with far away kingdoms. Originally the trip was only supposed to take at most a year, but some alliances were harder to form than others making the extension necessary.Β
βWow itβs good to be home,β Ben sighs in relief.Β
βYou can say that again. At least we convinced Arendelle to align with us. Canβt say I blame them for being more cautious after the last time they tried to make alliesβ Mal replies, exhausted from the trip.Β
βI cannot wait to sleep in our own bed again and to see everyone tomorrow. My sister even wrote that she has a boyfriend. Can you believe that, little Y/N has a boyfriend,β Ben says, starting to get worked up, feeling bad he hasnβt seen you in so long.Β
βWoah slow down there, Benny Boy. Letβs not start over thinking,β Mal says, trying to calm her husband. βY/N understands why youβve been gone so long. Letβs get some rest so you can be wide awake when you see her tomorrow. Iβm sure she doesnβt want a zombie for a brother.βΒ
βYouβre right. I want to make sure I have enough energy for tomorrow. Letβs get some sleepβ Ben yawns out.Β
After barely getting any sleep and your roommate Pink having to physically stop you from leaving to see your brother, it is finally time to head to Beast Castle. You leave your room practically running down the corridors to meet Max in front of your fatherβs statue. When you arrive at the statue, you are disappointed that he is nowhere to be seen.Β
βBooβ Max says while grasping your shoulders causing you to gasp in surprise.Β
βMax, youβre hereβ you exclaim, pulling him into a hug. Normally you would give Max a bad time for scaring you, but you are too excited to pretend to be upset. βAnd youβre wearing the jacket!βΒ
βOf course, I am. Couldnβt disappoint my favorite girl in all of Auradonβ He grins at you.Β
βNormally Iβd question who your favorite girl outside of Auradon is, but the limo is hereβ you say as you grab Maxβs hand, tugging him towards the limo.Β
βLimo?β Max questions.Β
βYes, limoβ you say, reaching the vehicle with a guard opening the door for you both. βDid you forget your dating royalty?β You wink at him.Β
βNo, but I just didnβt expect all of thisβ Max responds in disbelief. He had never been in a limo before. Being the son of Maddox Hatter didnβt really come with the perk of fancy transportation.Β
βIβm sorry I didnβt tell you earlier. The limo didnβt cross my mind as it's just how I normally get homeβ you tell him.Β
βDonβt worry about it, princess. We better get inside so you can see your brotherβ Max reassures you.Β
As both climb in and get comfortable in the limo you canβt help but glance over at Max. βYou know what the best part about riding in a limo isβ you say.Β
βWhat is it?β Max responds.Β
βChocolateβ you tell him with a smile, as you open the candy compartment.Β
After a short ride, and multiple chocolate bars, you and Max had finally reached Beast Castle. Suddenly doubt starts to creep into your mind as you get out of the limo. What if Ben had changed in the two years since you had seen him and wasnβt excited to see you?Β
βHey Y/N, are you okay?β Max asks, noticing your worried expression.Β
βIt's just been so long since Iβve seen Ben. What if we donβt get along anymoreβ you tell him sadly.Β
βTrust me that is not going to be the case. From what youβve told me about your brother, Iβm sure heβs just excited to see you as you are him,β Max reassures you. Β
βI donβt know what Iβd do with you outβ you confess. βAre you ready?β You ask him, holding out your hand to hold his.Β
βAs ready as Iβll ever beβ Max takes your hand as you both walk up towards the castle entrance.Β
As the doors open to the castle, you can see Ben and Mal talking to your parents a few feet away. Ben, hearing the doors open, notices you immediately and takes off running towards you.Β
βY/Nβ Ben shouts, pulling you into a tight hug, while Max stands next to the two of you, taken aback by the King of Auradonβs actions.Β
βBenβ you respond with the same enthusiasm. βI canβt believe you're finally home!βΒ
βI canβt believe how much youβve grown since I left,β Ben exclaims. Noticing your boyfriend, Ben turns his attention to Max. βAnd you must be Y/Nβs boyfriend,β Ben adds, looking at Max.Β
βYup, this is my boyfriend Max Hatterβ you introduce Max to Ben. If Ben is at all surprised by Maxβs last name, he doesnβt show it.Β
βNice to meet you Maxβ Ben tells him before pulling him into a hug, completely surprising Max.Β
βItβs nice to meet you too, Ben. Your sister talks about you all the time,β Max says as Ben pulls away.Β
βIβm sure only good things are right,β Ben responds, glancing over at you.Β
βOnly the best. No embarrassing stories whatsoever, especially ones about how your pjs are covered in little crownsβ you grin back.Β
βDid you say Hatter?β Your father interrupts.Β
βYes, Hatter. But Max is nothing like his father.β You sternly tell him as you move closer to Max, holding his hand.Β
βI promise you, I am nothing like my father, and I have no intention of harming your daughter,β Max confesses to him.Β
βWeβve already been through this once, dear. Letβs keep an open mind,β Belle calmly tells her husband.Β
βIβm sorry. I shouldnβt have judged you so quickly. Iβm just protective of my little girl,β Adam apologizes to Max, wanting to stay on his familyβs good side.Β
βItβs okay, sir. I know my last name causes people to worry,β Max replies gracefully, not wanting to leave a negative impression.Β
βWell, it will be good to have another VK in the mix. These guys tend to get a little too sappy sometimes,β Mal says to Max, breaking the tension.Β
βHey we do notβ you and Ben exclaim in unison.Β
βOh, you totally do,β Mal says, walking over to pull you into a hug.Β
βI think Iβve got to agree with Mal on this one. You definitely get all sappy,β Max laughs.Β
βDo you want to talk about sappy? Cause I can bring up how you acted on our first dateβ you threaten.Β
βAnd I suddenly, a hundred percent support my beautiful girlfriend,β Max says, changing his tune.Β
βWell, itβs very nice to meet you Max. I hope you are up for dinner and some games tonight. Prepare yourselves for these four to get very competitive. Last time we played charades, Mal almost turned into a dragon, and I swear I heard these three roar multiple timesβ Belle warns him with a smile.Β
Max, surprised by the idea of you acting beastly, responds βRoar? I guess Iβll try to prepare myself.βΒ
βIt wasnβt that bad!β You exclaim.Β
βWell why donβt we continue this discussion over foodβ your mother suggests.Β
βThat sounds good to me, Iβm starving,β your father responds.Β
As you follow your parents, you grab a hold of Maxβs hands and whisper βSee, I told you theyβd like you. And sorry about my dad, he gets a little protective.βΒ
βDonβt worry about it, princess. You're worth it,β he grins back at you.Β
Unbeknownst to you, Mal and Ben caught this interaction between you and Max.Β
βYou know they remind me a lot of us,β Ben says, smiling at his wife.Β
βThey really do. I think your family must have a type. You all love finding the good in everyone,β Mal smiles back at him.Β
βCanβt say I disagree when it brought me to youβ Ben tells her.Β
βWell Benny Boo, we canβt keep your family waiting,β Mal says, taking Benβs hand as they set off to join the rest of you.Β
It looks like you and Max had nothing to worry about after all.
