I was gonna describe Palpatineβs spaces as like the bloody insides of a large beast, but the more I thought about it
β¦Palpatineβs office is a womb right? Its where Sidiousβ perfect apprentice is developed. Heβs nurtured in this space by Palpatine until he Anakin leaves it reborn Vader.
Like thereβs really so much to say about Palpatine and yonic symbolism.
Heβs also almost an anti-mother. With Anakin only knowing a motherβs love, and both of his major conflicts being about saving his mother and the mother of his children, Palpatine is a perversion of both. With Palpatine eventually replacing both Shmi and PadmΓ©. Initially taking a nurturing role throughout his conflict over his mother, and eventually becoming the person Vader is most dedicated to through his conflict over PadmΓ©.
Shmiβs child (Anakin) dies and is reborn Darth Vader. Idk itβs just paired with the raw bloody entrance like outfit we wears. Theyβre in this red organ like office and Vader is being born through Sidious. Its almost a gory birth scene.
Then thereβs like the inverse of Anakin with his mother happening in this scene. With Palpatine arriving on time.
...okay I had to read the words 'Palpatine and yonic symbolism' with my own two eyes so now you do too. I wish I could find one single thing about this to dispute but I can't.
headcanon that a ferengi tradition is putting your new baby up for sale at a ridiculous price to show how valuable they are to you (everyone has to be polite and not actually buy them or hands will be thrown, people will be sued, etc etc)
I love the idea of Ferengi traditions that are both ha-ha capitalism but also create a functioning culture thatβs more than a metaphor.
So, this is related to a headcanon I have. There's a kind of ritual sale of childhood goods as part of the Ferengi coming-of-age, which was featured in an episode of DS9. The ostensible purpose is to raise capital for the young Ferengi male. But, like, if the Ferengi were approaching this in their usual capitalistic mindset, you wouldn't really get much from what's basically a glorified garage sale
My headcanon is that it is the accepted practice to buy those goods at much higher prices than you would normally pay, serving as a culturally acceptable way of effectively giving financial support
Oh I love these, especially because of the spoken and unspoken meta-traditions around the tradition! Maybe they work similarly to the βspeak now or forever hold your peaceβ thing in human marriage ceremonies. Everyone at a human wedding understands youβre not actually supposed to say anything at that point, itβs just a formalityβbut you see characters do it all the time in literature and entertainment, because it makes for such a juicy plot twist.
I bet βnewborn gets purchased by evil jealous ex-business partnerβ is a classic plot hook in Ferengi soap operas. Itβs their version of getting sold to One Direction.
When I was a kid watching tv was idiot coded and nerds read books, but now scrolling shortform videos is considered braindead behavior and watching tv means you're some kinda intellectual. You might think this shifting assessment of media's consumers might make readers into absolute super geniuses, but no. Only perverts read now.

βIncuriousβ is an incredible thing to call someone. It conveys so much with so little. To be so uninterested with learning or developing an understanding that itβs damning. To fail to feel what a toddler does by instinct.
I sometimes go back to the Dan Olson video about Doug Walker and thereβs a bit where he says βDoug wants to be a filmmaker, he wants to make art, but he can't, because he's a fundamentally incurious person who isn't much interested in what other people think or feel and all his ideas boil down to βwhat if Batman met Mario?ββ and I know that if this was said about most artists I have met they would wither up on the spot like a dying spider
yet another cosmic unfairness: a manatee is some kind of big fat dumpling beast of the sea that wants you to pet it so bad we had to make laws against doing just that for their safety
something incredibly funny about dnd trying to get in on the cute animal of the week trend with a popular raccoon and, because this is how dnd works with regards to animals, doing so by releasing a statblock so you can fight and kill it
putting "don't you dare" in the XP count but still explaining how one would go about fighting jimothy the raccoon, a random animal with a spinal condition, is killing me
I dont care about matt damon and ben affleck but they gave us Which could mean nothing so they are like rpf patron saints in a way

Meanwhile this was what various medical professionals in that reddit thread had to say about it.
They do not, in fact, love it.
The proof that chiropractic is an utterly failed medical profession is not that adjustments can cause harm, but that the profession has responded by ignoring and denying the harm, rather than studying it.
All medical treatments (other than complete placebos) have some risk of harm, but for real treatments given by real professionals, the harms are tracked, measured and warned about. If the harms are too severe, the treatment is no longer used.
One of my colleagues was a chiropractor. After a while he began to suspect that a lot of his patients actually just had muscle tears, not spinal issues. He bought an ultrasound machine, learned how to use it and how to read ultrasound, and found that to be the case. Between that and the constant pressure from management to get customers (because lbr, they're not patients, they're customers), he got sick and tired of it and bailed to become a sonographer full time.
And before people pipe up with "but my chiro is good, they have me do exercises and so on!" that's just regular ass physiotherapy. See a physiotherapist. A lot of people who sing the praises of chiros because they saved them from chronic pain would have gotten the same benefits from seeing an actual licensed physio, who can prescribe the same or even better exercises because they have an actual fucking education.
The amount of fucking charts I've seen where a patient went to a chiropractor and now needs a surgery is fucking insane. All I do is medical charts, day in and day out doing medical code. I've gone over hundreds of patients whole year of appointments. Unless the chiropractor is also a physical therapist, that patient is going to get worse and need surgery with very few exceptions. It doesn't matter when they mention seeing a chiropractor, by the end of the year they need surgery for issues that started after *shock and awe* a chiropractor appointment! I've seen patients needing multiple surgeries to be functional after chiropractors. I've seen patients lose their ability to walk because of chiropractors. And all the way up till they need surgery, through the issues piling up and needing more pain meds, the patients insist it's helping because the want so badly for it to be helping. I wish it did
working with little kids is so dangerous. you get one kid who has a unique way of speaking & then spend the rest of your life with an internal monologue like βmeβs go bathroom?β
other thrilling destructions of my vocabulary:
the kid who replaced his hard G sounds with soft ones, leaving me incapable of thinking of glasses as anything other than jlasses
kid who would holler "DID" any time she finished her work no matter how many times we told her to just raise her hand
kid who began her scary stories with "once a time" and her friend who began his with "paw time"
middle schooler i had during student teaching who pronounced magritte as "mah-gritty"
the kid who said "i got boogies comin out my nose" while sobbing and the kid who said "theres his puddle of cry" while describing a drawing, both of whom i think of when im crying
kid who said that if he was 80 he would get big and turn grandpa
kid who, for no reason in particular, would just say "like a little feet" as a standalone phrase in relation to nothing
edit how could i forget. the kid who got sneezed on and angrily said "whyd you blessyou on me"
My niece who asks people with dogs "are him big or him little?"
And every person without fail answers "uh.. him big"
Years later my vocabulary is still influenced by:
kid who called snakes "nakes"
kid who called calculators "cockulators"
my little cousin who referred to anything he didn't have an immediate answer to as "vewy mystewious"
"I don't yike heem"
hey has anyone found a way to act on your desires without opening yourself to failure
biting the hand that feeds me but im also sucking on the fingers a bit

once I snorted a fat line of nuance and everything started depending. watch out
Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
