a few reminders because i’m tired and angry
fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism
adult women aren’t inherently creepy for being in fandom and having hobbies apart from raising babies and doing taxes
the vast majority of people pushing back against the worrying trend of instigating harassment over fictional characters and relationships aren’t incest supporters or pedophiles, actually
liking a m/f ship doesn’t make someone a dirty heterosexual invading your space
preferring gay ships doesn’t make you ‘’woke’’ and good
no one owes you a disclaimer that they are a good person who recognizes that their favorite fictional villain’s actions are evil and that they don’t condone those actions irl
liking a fictional villain is in no way comparable to advocating abuse/murder/genocide/etc and you’re a fucking idiot if you believe that
just because a woman is attracted to a fictional villain doesn’t mean she’s promoting toxic relationships or going to end up in a toxic relationship. assuming women can’t tell fiction and reality apart stinks of internalized misogyny
some rando’s a/b/o fanfics have none of the level of influence that popular tv shows and movies spreading propaganda have
no one owes you a detailed description of their traumas and mental health problems
abusive relationships are not the same as enemies to lovers ships
y’all need to chill the fuck out over people, relationships, actions and events that don’t actually exist and learn how to enjoy and discuss them like normal people
fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism
feel free to add more

One of those fandom things that I love is when there’s new characters around and, with the unwavering confidence of an old farmer appraising cattle, fanfic authors take one good look at them, tilt their imaginary hat, and go “Aye. Praise kink, that one. Mighty case of praise kink if I ever saw one.” And everyone else just “aye.”
Not to mention the plot tropes.
“I don’t think the Highschool AU is going to come in too strong this year. Fandoms a touch jaded for that. But the hurt/comfort is growin’ thick as weeds and twice as fast. It’ll be a good harvest, fer sure.”
@cynaram
“I hear over at [neighbouring fandom] they’re putting the top field into fix-it fics.”
“Yes, ‘twould be. They had a hard season last year, a right hard season.”
“You think I ought to plant a little Sailor Moon Wild West AU? Don’t know if anything would come of it. Might not make it to harvest.”
“Won’t know until you plant it, will you?”
“Ah, a heritage crop.”
The shipping forecast.
The Fandom Almanac
“I think I’m going to sow some rarepairs this season. Don’t know what the market for ‘em will be, but I can eat ‘em if nobody else wants to.”
Petition to start referring to fanworks as ‘produce’ and stop calling it ‘content’.
Produce = Fresh. Tasty. Nutritious. Contains some ppm of Love.
Content = Lifeless. Sterile. An obligation.
1,069 (nice) days left
My hottest fanfiction take is I think people should stop posting multi-fandom oneshots as a single fic with like 50+ chapters and instead post them as individual fics

"Just because the Darkling had a difficult life, doesn't mean he was right!"
Correct.
He was right because he was the only one who assessed the situation realistically.
He was right because the world he inhabited was rotten to the core and needed a radical change, not a shallow refurbishment.
He was right because dismantling the Fold would not magically solve centuries of bigotry and oppression.
He was right because you can't appeal to the humanity of those who don't consider you human.
He was right because no matter how hard Grisha would try to accommodate otkazats'ya, it would never be enough because bigots didn't want Grisha nice, they wanted them dead.
He was right because another Lantsov monarch in the country that had been sucked dry by the Lantsovs in centuries is a catastrophe.
He was right because everything that happened after his death proved that there was no other way—everything only got worse.
He was right because he realized that genocide of his people is a more pressing issue than them having cliques in their community or them not wanting to share their tech with people who hate them.
He was right because he was the only one who made an effort to protect grisha and create a safe haven for them while numerous "saints" and other self-proclaimed "good people" were sitting on their ass.
He was right because only his actions helped Grisha in a meaningful, tangible way.
He was right because "the good guys" didn't manage to do a single useful thing while he was dead.
He was right because the story put Grisha in such a stalemate that the author didn't manage to come up with anything better than to solve racism with an absolutely idiotic dragon-shifting trick.
He was right because he was the only one who prioritized the collective survival of his people over his personal feelings and moral comfort.
He was right because he was the only character in the story in a morally defensible position and with a justifiable goal.
So yeah, even if he lived the happiest and most carefree life imaginable, he would still be fundamentally right.
/whispers
That means Alina and Mal and Zoya and the Crows’ ‘trauma’ doesn’t make them fundamentally good or right either.
baseball different from how i remember it
glad they added new maps to baseball
Happy pride month to the tiny cowboy and tiny Trojan man from Night at the Museum
This hands down the best comment in the notes, I will not be taking criticism.
the death of dvds is so fucked. what about bonus features
far far away idol would never happen now
So many years ago (like 1998?) I hypothesized that DVDs could lead to special features on them, specifically I was a huge fan of the millions of Star Wars OT features that discussed the matte paintings, puppetry, etc from the 80s especially. I wanted these to be included on DVDs and they were never included, sadly, but many others were for other movies. Now that’s been cut down to a 15 minute feature after the streaming run (if that) and a 5 minute blooper reel. Sad.

Rocky gay question? We queer we queer we queer
Magical girl who had wanted to be one so badly but never had that magical mascot/mentor encounter so she summoned a demon to contract with instead.
It's not a dark story or anything, the magical girl is just as cute and cheery and friendly as factory standard and never loses that faith and optimism, she's just Pact-bound to a frightening demon from the underworld instead of a cute teddy bear mouse.
“What if he’s manipulating her to evil-“ No.
“What if she needs to eat souls to survive-“ No.
“What if she becomes horrified with what she’s becoming-“ No.
Demon being viewed as weird for making a pact with a cute, cheery schoolgirl.
At every demon party where they show off their pacted there's evil, terrible, and frighteningly beautiful and then there's this teenager in a cute magical girl dress.
"I don't get you Goragog." "Listen, it's nice. Just nice! Can't things be nice? Is it a sin for things to be nice?" "No and that's part of the problem..." "You're just jealous Samantha created a "bffs forever" blingee with me. When was the last time one of your warlocks did something like that for you?" "*on the verge of tears* it's been DECADES!"
Meanwhile on the other side of the room...
"So what do you get in exchange? I get eternal youth and beauty."
"Yeah, and I get all my enemies smited."
"And my guy gave me immeasurable wealth. What'chu got, kid?"
"This super cute compact! Isn't it pretty? The heart-shaped jewels are so sparkly, and the mirror is always spotless!"
"...."
"And since we're pactbound, we're basically roomies now, so I also get a cool best friend and sleepovers on weekends!"
"...."
"Oh, and I also got my magical powers, of course."
Er'trian, Harbinger of Eternal Night, Defender of the Shrieking Chasm, and Lord of Eight Furies stared at eir favorite rival in confusion.
"But it's a pact," ey said. "A deal. An exchange is built in! You can't just Bestow Magical Powers for nothing in return. So what are you getting out of this, Goragog???"
Goragog's dark eyes wept their endless ichor. A halo of eldritch nightmares flickered around his head. With deliberate slowness he turned to meet Er'trian's accursed gaze.
"The power of friendship."
