HOUSE OF THE DRAGON COUNTDOWN TO SEASON THREE EVENT ↳ DAY 3: SCENERY SCENERY + DRAGON(S) FOR SCALE 🐉
Some of the edgiest queers in the world who constantly talk about romanticizing cannibalism and gore is punk or whatever will turn into the literal pope when confronted with anything realistic having to do with sex like im sorry but people fuck in the park at night sometimes always have and always will and you’re going to have to go about your life without advocating for them to be skinned alive in Alcatraz
And— dare I point out the obvious— the policing of these public areas historically was and still is a huge element of police brutality and discrimination against gay people. Undercover cops frequently patrol areas that are known cruising spots and initiate with men so they can make an arrest when the guy reciprocates. They will also arrest men who are seen looking at each other over the urinals in these spots. Or for peeing while wearing a rainbow wristband.
Federal law enforcement turned a person they arrested in the transit hub directly over to ICE.
If you are going to be squeamish about these facts of public life then you should really be aware of how at odds that is with your “punk” “be gay do crime” aesthetics and how your fears are directly implicated in fascist policing of our bodies
I had a really really really good day with friends yesterday, so of course today I am the most depressed I have been in some time. sigh.
gender has been severely shrunken down into the domain of language, and I think it's been a serious mistake to prioritize language over all other facets of what gender is and can be
women can have penises and men can have vaginas, and it's great that we understand that, but we've done little in the way of challenging what these body parts mean, what types of people they're attached to, what those people's personalities are like, how dangerous or not dangerous they are, how they think and behave
we may have a little more wiggle room to label ourselves and our bodies now, but in many other ways we are right back where we started, with "amab" and "afab" swapped in for "man" and "woman." saying "women can have penises too!" is really not very progressive at all if you still think her penis makes her dangerous, if you still think it determines her personality and behavior and thoughts
and i feel like this matter of labels has been unduly centered almost entirely on purpose. a lot of people want to just treat respecting trans identities as a language game, letting them agree with so many things as said verbatim without having to challenge anything they actually believe. there's no contradiction between steadfastly upholding that trans women are women and treating us like men if you just think we've redefined what a woman is to include people who are basically men. there's no contradiction between actively oppressing us and meeting mainstream standards of being an ally if you in fact have tried to redefine what a woman is to include imaginary men.
and, like, yeah, ultimately there's room for arbitrarily much nuance in how people find it resonant and useful to label themselves, but binary labels are still ultimately in reference to the conventional normative gender binary and how one's own experiences are thus gendered. generalities about the people thus labeled can be meaningful and descriptive without invalidating their place in any given person's identity, and can be evaluated for how accurately they actually reflect reality. erasing all such generalities really does no more than degender the labels. equivocating gender with degendered labels really does no more than move the goalposts back and degender the concept of gender as itself a label for an unavoidably real sociocultural phenomenon. degendering the language of gender is putting a friendly coat of paint on "gender critical" attitudes which hardly even rise to the level of ideology because they are no more than the enshrinement of all of the default assumptions that worm their way in when you degender people.

We regret to inform you that the sunshine and friendship app is actually a children killing app.
I’ve been really really stressed and really busy, but I’m still here. Have been struggling with writing beyond simple text responses. Will probably be here much more in about a week and a half when house of the dragon returns!
Im sociologically very interested in gender and sexuality and how people have experienced them across history, how language has been used to communicate those experiences to varying levels of detail and/or accuracy.
Now, I think most ppl who have access to a larger queer community, physical queer spaces, etc, know things are not at all how the internet portrays them, know that identity is not a fixed or definable thing; that labels are clumsy, often-restrictive approximations of a far more nuanced and granular lived truth, and that they are tools best used as conversation starters, shorthand terminology to be deconstructed in the relational exploration of the places in which our experiences both overlap and differ, instead of monoliths of meaning. But as someone who is on the internet more than is probably healthy, it is difficult not to notice how many people have instead made those labels pillars at the center of identities they consider innate and immutable, and whose communities are often exclusionary and hateful towards those that don’t fit within the set of parameters they have established for those identities based on a perceived checklist of those labels.
It is furthermore quite funny to see how these same people will display a willful blindness, an accidental flexibility in the ‘rules’ of who they say they are attracted to, around certain gender nonconforming people they would otherwise shun if those people were not white and famous and hewing close to androgyny in their choice of gender presentation.
i no longer respect the hustle i want universal basic income and dignity for everyone
