grace couldn't teach rocky any english swear words because he knew if he did his life would be full of shit like "grace being bitch because no coffee yet, question?" and he'd have to live with knowing it was his fault
Me: I just got FABULOUS news. Granted, the real news happened 10 days ago, and im just late to party, but still.
Friend: what news?
Me: Charlie kirk's mentor died 10 days ago in a pickleball accident. This is the guy that the leverage team based their "Gimmie a K Job" episode on. The one where they turn cheer into a sport. This guy made his money by risking the lives of millions of cheerleaders, and you know what our GOVERNMENT said about that? "If we turn cheer into a sport and force high schools to update their safety equipment, it'll have serious ramifications on his business, so we're not gonna do that."
Friend: ...a PICKLEBALL accident???
Me: man, I bet he's really wishing pickleball updated their safety standards or something right about now.
Friend: that is a SICK BURN, so kudos for that.
One of the reasons people headcanon Grace as aromantic is the unfortunately realistic scene where they go "you don't have a family or a loved one" as if that's enough of a justification to send him on a suicide mission. As if not having a family makes Grace inherently less valuable and means he should be more willing to sacrifice himself for the greater good.
Grace wasn't sad and lonely, he was happy, he had a good life, he very much did not want to die. They have to do a looney tunes chase sequence and drug him because Grace was *very* unwilling to be the sacrificial lamb. Humanity's savior was dragged kicking and screaming into the role and called selfish for daring to be a coward, as if most of us wouldn't be.
And then he befriends Rocky, who never demands a sacrifice from him, who willingly prolongs his journey home so Grace can go back to his. Rocky has a mate back home and his species depends on his return, and still risks his life to save his squishy human friend. And Grace returns the favor.
And thus the power of friendship saves two planets.
The Almost Hug
Been thinking a lot about how Eliot regulates his strength. When he wants something from anyone on the team, he pushes and pulls, but no more than they can equally fight back. (At least initially)
This clip of the hug with Hardison has been clipped for ages, but the whole scene is so cutie and also demonstrates how Eliot could immediately push Hardison away with ease, but he chooses not to. He chooses to fight and give up ground to Hardison, so he kind of still lets him in.
When they bonk heads Hardison immediately adjusts while Eliot pulls away because Hardison is not actually trying to make him uncomfortable, and he knows as well as anyone that if Eliot really wanted him off, he would be off.
Eliot still saved Hardison because of course he did. It's a physical retelling of how they do care about each other, and the almost smile when Eliot threatens to break Hardison's arm is the cherry on top.
That could be interpreted as a real threat, it's a very possible thing for him to do, but it's truly beautiful how everyone, Haridson Parker Sophie Nate, they all aren't afraid of him. They trust him because they know the threats are empty.
also Parker's indignant "No i didn't" god, I love her. Parker analysis coming soon.
GAH okay ill shut up.

Ophelia

the man HACKS, the man FORGES HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS, the man BUILDS LITTLE MACHINES, the man BITES PEOPLE WHO ATTACK HIM, and AND ☝️he's a nerd
I know we never got to see nana on screen in leverage, which is a crime thank you very much, but just from the vibes I get from how people talk about her and how she raised Hardison and Breanna, I imagine her being played by CCH pounder and if you don't know her, you might not understand but I assure you she fits, that's all thank you
Best traits u can give a character are genius level intellect, the ability to play the violin, geekiness, a problem with authority, a genuinely impressive amount of patience for their emotionally stunted friends, a heart of gold, Judaism, a mysterious yet beloved offscreen parental figure, an overcommitment to the bit, and -
Alec Hardison. The best traits u can give a character are the ones that make them Alec Hardison.
Leverage (2008) // Parker & the gang
Elementary once again coming out in favour of polyamory. Bless this show.
Look, Elementary made a load of really smart adaptational decisions with the Holmes canon, but re-interpreting the Baker Street Irregulars as a group of hacktivists who delight in making Sherlock do weird and stupid shit is probably one of the best.

I really appreciate how in The Queen's Gambit Job, they didn't try to have a reveal where Nate could actually beat all of the chess grandmasters without cheating. Like, yeah, Hardison can actually play the Scheherazade solo perfectly because his nerves were what got in his way and he got hypnotized out of that, sure. Sophie can identify the exact percentage and location of origin of cocoa beans in a piece of chocolate, why not, that makes sense. Eliot has almost-perfect pitch and can sing and play the guitar, that doesn't surprise me. Parker can pull off the White Rabbit for real, of course she can. But they didn't pull that trick with Nate and the chess tournament, and I really liked that. He's really good at chess, yeah, but not grandmaster level. They had to play dirty and cheat to get him in the finals against Olivia. In all of those other situations where the rest of the team doubted another member's abilities, Nate never had any doubt. Nate knows what they *all* can do, and that includes knowing that he isn't magically good enough to win those games without help, because even though chess is "his game", his REAL game is not played with chess pieces. It's played with People. His people. And he knows all of the moves they can make. He always knows how to win on that board.

He's beautiful.
That's the first thought that Steve has.
The second?
He's not sure that the ice on Lover's Lake is thick enough for ice skating. Not yet. Steve came out to check and see, but he wasn't confident he was gonna be able to get on the ice today. However, this guy beat him to the punch.
At least Steve thinks it's a guy, from the body movements alone, skating out on the (hopefully) frozen lake. He really needs glasses. He squints, watching their hair fly as they're spinning, spinning, spinning before taking off across the ice like they aren't dizzy at all.
It's not professional skating, not by a long shot, but it still looks good. Especially for Hawkins, Indiana. It's not like they're at Lake Placid or Sarajevo. Nobody from here makes it that far from what Steve can tell.
Steve can skate, too. Not figure skate, but he has his old hockey skates draped over his shoulder this morning. Hockey gave way to swimming and basketball, but he still enjoys the feeling of the cold air on his face at a rink. And a frozen lake? Even better. He could get out there. There's plenty of room for two. But he sort of feels content just watching. He sits on a fallen log, and shoves his hands in his coat pockets, trying to thaw his stiff fingers.
And he watches. Taking in the somewhat manic movements. They aren't fluid. And they definitely aren't delicate in the slightest, but they are absolutely eye-catching. Steve sees the ice shavings fly as he comes to a stop, and then takes off again, before jumping high above the ice. Landing with force, hands flying out. Strong. Like he's commanding an audience he isn't aware he even has.
It's fascinating.
Steve hears it before he sees it.

this is the full video of patti lupone breaking the sound barrier at the 1988 tony awards btw
it's patti lupone's birthday have you listened to her breaking the sound barrier at the 1988 tony awards?
@bloodanna i'm stealing your tags bc it's a good explanation of what's going on!!!
When Jarvis says “it is my diagnosis you experienced a severe anxiety attack” it-it was amazing. And tonys quiet little “me?” was the coolest thing. I’ve just-ive never felt so amazed at something and so proud about a movie in my life. The realization that “yes, they’re going there” almost made me break down crying. Iron Man will forever be my favourite trilogy and favourite character and I blame that scene, when they stepped up and made a superhero someone so painfully real that I felt what he was feeling. Amazing.
