when i say “aros can still date” i mean that as in “aros can do whatever the fuck they want and it doesn’t have to make sense to you”
but some of y’all say “aros can still date” to mean “aros are still able to fit your standards of an acceptable person despite their abnormality” and i do not fuck with that
I painted this 2 years ago and let it sit and gather dust since. Im not very good at faces. So I may never do another one like this. But i finally finished it today.
is there still time for 2026 to be the year that we finally kill 'ladies and gentlemen'
my go-to is "earthling."
Gender neutral, AND implies im an alien.
Idk who OP is but yeah
IF OUR DESIRE TO EAT THE RICH IS GREATER THAN OUR DESIRE TO FEED THE POOR, I FEAR WE'VE MISSED THE POINT!

I don't even offer an explanation anymore. I just say, "No," and leave it at that.
Sorry, I cant.
I don't want to.
No.
All of these are acceptable. Screw explaining yourself. People need to be disappointed more.
I like when fic length/book length/movie length is its own punchline
characters: Ah, I'm so glad that's all over now :). But luckily that's done and dealt with and we can all resume our normal lives now :)
fic length: Chapter 9 out of 48
an even worse ending i would have actually loved
everything is the same.
all of it.Â
old sam dies.
and then just
HEAT OF THE MOMENT
*gasp*
PERFECTION.
perhaps some will disagree, but i think the world got worse when we changed the colour of the night
this is what i mean
Via @bulbaderp
To be clear, THIS is how nights of the future should be lit
This is bat friendly street lighting, which not only looks sick as fuck but allows bats to pass through without disturbance, as they cannot see red.
orange and especially white lights deter bats and prevent them from reaching feeding grounds at nighttime. Please if you can, write to your local council and encourage red street lights!!!!
ALSO! red light doesn’t fuck up human night vision much so you can go in and out of lit areas without readjusting
the red light not fucking up human night vision is also why a number of older cars had gauges that lit up red at night
i legit miss red lights in cars and appliances n stuff. red city lighting is goated
Me: MY LIFE IS A LIE.
Friend: ?
Me: as a kid, my mom parted my hair on the right. She said that's how you're "supposed" to part your hair. She always got mad at my sisters for parting it differently, so i kinda just thought it was NORMAL to part it on the right.
Friend: please tell me it did not take you 33 years to figure out this was a lie.
Me: no! See, I shaved my head! And my hair is growing in! And it NATURALLY FALLS TO THE LEFT.
Friend: ahhh. Yeah, that happens. Your mom was just...controlling.

academic dishonesty is not something you can spin as moral lol i do not want to share a career field let alone a social sphere with a bunch of chatgpt using ass bitches
"you're just scared your diploma is going to devalue" i'm afraid you dumb bitches are going to become my colleagues and drag social services to hell
I'm afraid they'll become scientists and data that lives depend on will turn out to be wrong - and people will die.
I'm afraid they'll become engineers and sign off on bridge designs that collapse - and people will die.
I'm afraid they'll become medical professionals who don't know what they're doing - and people will die.
The assumption that academic dishonesty is okay is rooted in the idea that what you're learning to do doesn't matter.
Me: what are you going to study once you leave the program?
Student: nuclear engineering.
Me: wow. That's...impressive.
Student: im choosing it because I know my job will never be taken over by ai.
Me: i mean...with trump in charge, who's to say never?
Student: if anyone tries to put anything ai in a nuclear reactor, just know, it won't be a problem for long, because we'll all be dead the next day.
Me: ...you should make that your mission statement.
I made a thing.
I like the concept, but it doesn't seem quite right to me. Not sure how to fix it. Maybe change the paint colors?
A frustrating part of the mainstream vegan “love all animals and protect the environment” mindset is the fact that things need to die in real-life ecology all the time but deer hunting season makes icky feelings and carp culls aren’t cottagecore
The vegan “any animal death ever is morally wrong” mindset doesn’t hold up when:
We don’t have any of the large predators we used to (black bears, mountain lions, or gray wolves) but still retain large deer populations. If nothing is removing animals, they’ll quickly overload the carrying capacity of the environment and have massive losses to starvation and disease that can also pass on to livestock. Human hunters replace the large predators that our landscape can no longer support.
It’s kinder to euthanize an un-releasable hawk rather than try to find it a permanent home with humans. Wildlife rehabs have extremely limited space and resources and are usually run entirely on donated money and volunteer time. Only a few are large and stable enough to care for permanent residents long-term, and those spots are few and far between.
An invasive species poses a danger to threatened native wildlife. I will admit- Australian possums are adorable. But not in New Zealand, where they’re an invasive species that eats the eggs of ground-dwelling birds that previously had no such predators. The landowners I worked with replanting native bush, all native Maori, had no qualms about setting the dogs on them.
I don’t know how to end this except. Sometimes things just gotta die and acting otherwise just isn’t a realistic expectation.
Highlights from the notes over the past 6 months include a lot of angry vegans saying “you’re blowing things out of proportion, no vegans actually think like this!” and a lot of people who work in conservation and education saying “Every day. I have to fight people who think like this.”
As a bonus this post was originally inspired by the vegan who called me racist for saying we should kill invasive species
when I was in 8th grade, my teacher told us once upon a time in Yellowstone, they thought it was such a SAD thing that the wolves killed the deer, so the humans decided to kill the wolves.
Do you know what happened? The deer population tripled in size and they all starved because they ran out of food. But not to death, oh, no.
Because seeing the deer starving to death made the humans sad, so they would FEED THE DEER.
But the humans never had enough to feed ALL the deer ALL the time, so all they did was stop the deer from dying, and THAT'S IT.
HOW CRUEL DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO FORCE WILD ANIMALS TO LIVE TEETERING ON THE BRINK OF STARVATION JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT THEM TO BE PART OF THE VERY NORMAL CIRCLE OF LIFE?
This is a friendly reminder that none disabled people often do benefit from the same accommodations disabled people benefit from.
Yeah okay I'll reblog that!!
My dad used to work for Vodafone and likes to tell a story about when he was working on a voicemail transcription service.
And there was a woman there who was some form of disability advocate (it was the 90s so her existence in the company was a minor miracle) and apparently she completely blew his mind on that project.
See, he'd imagined that this service was exclusively gonna be for deaf people. Obviously very useful for the very small number of people who couldn't hear their phone, but why would you even own a mobile phone if you couldn't hear?
But she described to him all the times he might want to read a message instead of listen to it. Maybe he was in a loud football crowd. Maybe there was important info that he needed to copy down that was spoken too fast. Maybe he was holding his sleeping newborn (me) and didn't want his phone to be loud and wake them up.
This doesn't feel as revolutionary as all that to those of us that have only ever known phones with the ability 'send text message', but given the timing and placement of this conversation I wonder if this woman and this project is *part of the reason text messaging exists*. The first text (SMS) message was sent by Vodafone UK in 1992 - where + when this conversation was happening - and then for a long time it was supported exclusively for 'messages from the carrier', and this project was an early potential extra use of the SMS protocol.
So Yeh, building for disability is kinda handy..
can you imagine how often you would use sign language if everyone knew it
one of my students didn't like talking as a child, so he taught himself asl. When I started working with him, he didn't talk much to the other students or staff, so he was ECSTATIC to find out i knew asl.
As time went on, he started teaching interested students some basics signs, and after a year, I had students who started signing to each other during class so they wouldn't disrupt the lesson, sign across the room so they wouldn't have to shout, sign when they were overcome with emotions to the point they couldn't talk.
None of these students are deaf, but they all benefited from learning asl.

I like the "everything i have is yours" trope, but more than that, I love the "I don't need anything but you" trope.
I learned in my political science class that all major famines in the 20th century and onward have been caused by oppressive groups or political situations restricting access to food, NOT natural causes like crop failure
This is literally the point that Indian economist Amartya Sen made that won him the Nobel prize in economics. As a child, he survived one of the several Bengal famines that were organised by the British colonisers in India. He developed his theory on famines, which is that they were more about distribution of food rather than production or availability of it
I mentioned the potato famine to a friend once in an angry vent, and compared it to the Great Depression, and she said, "the government will have you believe famines are caused by a lack of food, but in reality, they are caused by the lack of access to food," and i think i became an anarchist that day.
