white-presenting alters forgetting the bodies race can be dangerous. we once got approached by cops waiting for our white partner to get off of work. they had their hands on their guns before we even had the chance to talk back. we didnt quite escalate it but we definitely didnt deescalate either. we responded in kind to their rudeness because we werent doing anything wrong. simply walking around an empty parking lot so we didnt fall asleep waiting. if not for our white partner noticing and immediately coming to our rescue all sorts of things could have happened.

There were times when we were followed around stores while already in a paranoid state and if not for safegaurds would have flipped out on those people.

part of our system forming was because the way black bodies are policed. we have alters whos whole role is to safe guard us. to keep track of code switching. to know how to react to police to microagressions to danger.

i once worked at a cafe whos owners had ties to the KKK (LIKE LITERALLY THE KKK) and di not pick up on being financially abused by the place because we needed the money. we couldnt lose the job. so our brain ignored the red flags until i was alone with the owner and bam flood gate of racism and microagressions and names of churchs and friends came flooding back because my brain knew being alone with him was too much too dangerous.

even in my pysch eval there was a segment talking about my systems need to stay functional. because black peole who cannot stay calm who cannot perform get murdered they get hurt.

my personal opinion is that NPD doesn't even exist in the same way ODD doesn't exist 🤷 it's a way to pathologize bad people and the people that are genuinely struggling don't have NPD. they didn't name it narcissistic personality disorder out of the kindness of their heart- they named it that because they wanted a Bad Person Disorder. I don't think it's worth self identifying with. I don't see many people who claim NPD who don't either find out they self-misdiagnosed or realize they were only diagnosed because their psych/therapist didn't like them. for the people actually struggling there tends to be labels that better explain their symptoms other than the psychiatry designated evil person disorder

people talk about NPD being a trauma response (which it is) but there are already other labels for people with trauma responses like this one. those labels are less stigmatizing and don't include symptoms that likely make someone an abuser. they have a purpose other than labeling someone "evil and impossible to treat." NPD only exists as a way to signal to other psychs/therapists that someone is "bad." I don't think we should treat it legitimately.

I partially agree. I do think NPD is a real thing and not purely just a "bad people disorder" (Or at least its symptoms are real) however I also agree with the fact NPD can cause abusive behaviour and a lot of people skip over that fact for the sake of sanitizing the disorder

ASPD can cause bad behaviour that breaks the law (it's in the criteria). ASPD can cause someone to be a bad person. But does that make all people with ASPD bad people? No. It's just a disorder someone can have.

I don't think any disorder makes someone inherently bad or evil (yes, all of them.) but I do think disorders are able to cause bad behaviour which a lot of people on Tumblr like to erase the symptoms of

I do think if we were to "fix" the NPD diagnosis I still think the ICD-11 model is best where all personality disorders are just one diagnosis with severity specifiers & symptom specifiers

you have depression. actually wait you specifically have persistent depressive disorder. no that other person is wrong you actually have recurrent major depressive disorder (because that’s somehow different from persistent depressive disorder). no that other guy was wrong you have BPD. no you don’t have BPD you actually have PTSD and ADHD but not autism. nope that guy was wrong too you’re definitely autistic and have C-PTSD with no signs of ADHD whatsoever.
