Tags are accurate. this is absolutely incredible such a ridiculous concept that is executed flawlessly in three different ways each with a flare for fun and with a sense of Wei Wuxian floundering in how successful he is that just perfectly scratched an itch in my brain! @browneyesandhair
One Can Keep A Secret (If He Does Not Know It's There)
by H_Belle

Summary: At fifteen, during summer camp in Cloud Recesses, Wei Wuxian invents a bunch of talismans when bored or prompted by Nie Husaisang. Thinking it awfully funny, he creates a throwaway account at a professional cultivation research/purchase network and uploads them for sale for a modest fee. Then, he forgets about the whole thing. Years later, the mysterious Yiling Patriarch is known in all Jianghu as an elusive genius cultivator who revolutionised his field. Those two statements might or might not be related. In other words: three different ways in which Wei Wuxian finds out he is filthy rich and academically acclaimed. That’s it. That’s the story.

An excellent video as of November 2025 that shows some settings that Windows enables by default (and often turns back on after updating without your consent) that are absolutely insane and you should turn off immediately. My personal (un)favorite is number 3: Delivery optimization, which is a setting that lets Windows use YOUR network to send files to other Windows users if they don't want to use their own, or something. It basically lets them use your network, battery power, and data to do...whatever, whenever, without telling you because if you leave that setting enabled, then technically you gave them permission! Yay, you're so generous!
Turn it off.

Like many people, I've been deeply peeved by the fact that the internet is bad now. While DuckDuckGo or StartPage are vastly better than Google at this point, I've still been on the hunt for something that really consolidates the good results while allowing more fine-tuned surfing.
I'm up here on my soap box to gush to you about Kagi, a paid, ad-free, privacy-based search engine with a mere 50k users at the moment despite the fact that it provides the most useful and productive search experience I've had since, idk, 2018. Kagi allows you to block, deprioritize, prioritize, or "pin" websites to make your searches more relevant. Pinning is especially neat: it means I can pin Bookshop.org, and anytime I search for a book, that will be my top result. I can prioritize reddit and deprioritize Pinterest. I can pin my favorite recipe websites so I'm not wading through AI cooking blogs. You can auto-filter out AI images. There's a "small web" feature that allows you to query small, hidden gem websites. They'll intentionally pull interesting articles or older articles you wouldn't otherwise find. You can search PDFs only, or forums only, or academic sites only. Their AI features are opt-in only. My subscription money goes to things like providing Kagi free to public libraries. Have I adequately conveyed my enthusiasm yet?
If I search "Star Trek" on Google, I get AI "people also asked" questions I didn't want, an AI overview unhelpful to me as I'm already a fan, and corporate websites. No fan websites or small web sites in the first two pages. If I search "star trek" on Kagi, it gives me the official site, a few recent news stories, a Wikipedia page, one new trailer, a quick bullet points collection of "interesting finds" that includes a link to this collection of all commercially available chairs in Star Trek, and a collection of articles specifically pulled because they were published many years ago. Multiple small web sites come next, then some game sites, and a hackaday project for making a DIY communicator. Publication dates, when available, are highlighted right by the URL.
Anyway, well worth $5 a month from me, especially since their pricing is so transparent and they're entirely user funded. They also do zero advertising, which is part of the reason I made this long post. The five bucks a month is genuinely so worth it to me. Maybe it'll be worth it for you, too. You can search 100 queries for free, but I also highly recommend their random small web link, which is like StumbleUpon but for small web sites. (It's free.)

I've seen so many posts about Mensah's perspective of ART/Network Effect, how have I not seen one's about ART's crew's perspective. Network Effect as told by Seth.
You have a child who is an extremely powerful (somewhat illegal) machine intelligence. It's a good kid, mostly, except it doesn't play well with others. Your kid periodically goes on short trips by itself, and this has always been fine.
One time, it comes back and it's acting... weird. It keeps bringing up things it has no reason to know about and then dodging questions about it. Finally, you get it to admit that it picked up a hitchhiker on this on this trip, even though you have very strict rules about never picking up hitchhikers. This hitchhiker is obviously it's new favorite person. They watched soap operas together. Your kid loves soap operas now. Your kid shows you a bunch of pictures of this hitchhiker, but won't tell you details because the hitchhiker in question is a wanted criminal on the run and also an escaped slave. This is probably fine (you sure hope it's fine).
Then, you and the rest of your family/friends get fucking kidnapped and used as hostages to make your kid behave. You know that your kid 1) will do anything to protect you, and 2) pretty much always goes for violence first, so you have your doubts about any of this going well.
Then, the hitchhiker your kid will not shut up about appears out of thin air in the middle of a firefight on a planet pretty much no one has any reason to be near and says your kid sent it. It proves this by telling you your kid is a dickhead (this is true and works, but still).
After a lot of mutual rescuing, you're back on board the ship that is also your kid, and find out that your kid kidnapped it's wanted-criminal-hitchhiker-friend and all of it's friends, and has been telling them all of your top secret confidential spy information. The hitchhiker is responsible for 90% of the top news stories you've seen in the last six months. Three different governments want this person dead or alive.
Your kid pushes the hitchhiker's resume across the table at you and makes big sad puppy eyes.

Welp. Google's AI horseshit has arrived. And I'm not complying. They can pry my ID out of my cold dead hands. I will simply go elsewhere. Remember folks, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR IDs. Do not comply. Resist, fight it, use other browsers or sources beyond youtube and google controlled services. Call them. Email them. Make noise. Fight back.
I've been using Google as my main mail service since 2006, and every single account or service I've ever signed up for was made with that address. For a long time I thought it'd be impossible to divorce myself from Google.
It took less than 5 minutes to switch to a ProtonMail account, less than 2 hours to download and/or offload every byte of data from my Google account, and less than 3 days to change every single account or service I've ever signed up for to the new address.
As of today, the only single one I have that's still tied to it is YouTube. It's the only thing I'd lose access to if I deleted my Google acount entirely.
They really, really want you to believe that it's a hassle to switch to a different email system. But it's not. Most websites and/or services allow you to change the email address associated with it.
I've been using Google for almost 2 decades and it only took a few days to move everything. It's not a painful sacrifice; it's an easy change that, frankly, has absolutely been worth it.
Proton Shoutout
You can and should switch to a free, encrypted Proton email account. You also get all of the below perks. For free. There is no trick. It is paid for by the people with paying plans. I am one of them. The (completely functional) free tier is there to entice you into getting a paid account with even more perks. (It worked on me.) But there's no penalty or pressure for staying with the free account.
Also get your stuff off the google drive and put it on Proton's drive. It is encrypted. Only you with your password can access it. Not even Proton can see what you put in there.
Switch everything away from Google. It's easy and it's important. Read above, click the link for Proton, download your gmail and switch.

Is there any cultural significance or reasoning for Xiao Xingchen giving both his eyes to Song Lan, instead of just one?
I can certainly see there being plot and/or thematic reasons for it (like it makes a better parallel with Wei Wuxian who couldn’t give just half his golden core; it’s necessary for Xiao Xingchen to be completely blind for the Yi city tragedy to play out as it did; etc.) but I’m wondering if there is more to it then that.
Your insights on other bits of MDZS lore have been really interesting!
That’s a tough question. The short answer is: yes. It’s a cultural thing.
The longer answer is that I’m not sure I can adequately answer your question... because I feel that I'm not qualified. It goes deep. This is reaching the DNA of Chinese culture and the value system itself. I would say it’s probably better if you read more Chinese classics or immerse yourself in the culture. This is one of those things that are immensely difficult to put into words. The best way is to experience it.
But since you asked me, I’m going to at least give it a try.
The reason that Xiao Xingchen gave both eyes to Song Lan and the true root of the Yi City tragedy includes three different cultural concepts: Jishi 济世 (the Chinese ideal of saving the world), Enyuan Yinguo 恩怨因果 (Karma and Karmic Debts), and the quest to find Dao 道 (truth).
Me, a clown: hey i kind of miss drawing flowers, lets work on a garden for my next poster 🤩
