I support the "fiction isn't real so nothing matters" mindset but tbf at a certain point it can tip over into "the curtains are just blue" territory

like yes actually there is a conversation to be had about how a characters actions are framed and how they thematically fit with the rest of the story and it can in fact reflect the author's beliefs. some authors are even trying to make a point

not all depiction is glorification but sometimes it is and you need to be able to tell the difference. not because your immortal soul will be tainted by reading The Bad One, but because you need to have reading comprehension skills

If you talk about how much you can’t stand / hate children then you sound like the trunchbull. If you talk to me about how horrible children are, I associate you with The Trunchbull

Like I hope you are never around children, I honestly believe you are a danger to children. Even if you don’t plan to cause physical harm to children I do not trust you to treat children with any amount of respect or dignity.

I also don’t really trust you to be around the elderly because the ageism goes both ways and people who don’t respect the elderly tend to have the same reasons for not respecting the elderly as they do for not respecting children

Actually, no, I don't think that friendships dropping like flies in your late 20s and early 30s because no one has time for that between overwork and family obligations and marriage and kids and partners and the ritual of the time slayer is normal and ok. No I don't think deep conversations and spontaneous adventures being replaced with a tired coffee every six months is a normal part of growing up. I don't think that emotional intimacy and soul bonds disintegrating in the face of practical inconvenience is a fact of life. I think that means something is deeply deeply wrong with our society and I will never forgive it for the friends I've lost
