Someone asked me a while ago if I still had a photo of the worst sink I had ever seen while apartment hunting in Los Angeles. I assumed I deleted it so I didn't answer the ask and now it's gone, but as it turns out, yes, I do still have a photo of it.
They weren't lying, that sink can worst

truly believe that self-censorship is the death of good horror. i mean i know i’m biased because i am trying to get a fucked up book published, but i feel like so many good ideas are stopped in their tracks because the writers are so afraid of being judged. i mean, hell, i went through the exact same thing writing my book. my dad had to continuously tell me to stop self-censoring and to write from the gut, because i was terrified that other people would hate me or be disgusted by me because of what i wanted to write. i didn’t want to pour myself into the book and then have people read it and realize that i was secretly a bad person. and like, look. i’m not going to pretend that everyone in my life is thrilled about this book, now that I’m talking about it openly. there are people that mean a lot to me who think that writing about incest and sexual assault and gratuitous violence is fucked up. and guess what? we’re still friends. i respect that they’re uncomfortable around those subjects and will probably never read it, they respect that i wrote it and still hope that i find success, and we talk about other shit! at the end of the day, it’s horror fiction. they know my character and trust that I won’t push it on them. and there have been far more people that have been very excited about the book, people that i wouldn’t have expected! self-censoring is almost shooting yourself in the foot— you’re not telling the story you want to tell, you’re telling a watered-down version of it. readers can always tell when someone is really excited to be writing what they’re writing, and when they’re walking on eggshells. get more fucked up! push it to extremes! that’s going to be so much more interesting for both you and your audience. don’t censor yourself before anyone else gets to see it, you’re just doing the critics’ job for them. they think it’s disgusting? oh, you’ll fucking show them disgusting.

There are hardly any female werewolves because they break all the classic rules of femininity. They force you to confront female violence, strength, size, grotesqueness and uncontrollability. Historically female shapeshifters always shift into something dangerous (snake) or sleek (cat) or dainty (bird) but female werewolves ignore the masculine gaze completely. They're distorted beasts that have no ulterior motive except to destroy. Nothing about them is nurturing or modest. They're the opposite of what a woman "should be." Their omission from pop culture is not an accident.
Today is the start of the "quiet period" before the midterm election, a longstanding legal protection for eligible voters.
Forty-four states, plus Washington, D.C., are banned from doing mass purges of voter rolls within 90 days of a federal election under the 1993 National Voter Registration Act.
There's a ban on most states systematically purging voter rolls within 90 days before Election Day. Republicans are pushing courts to reinte
With an active legal fight over the quiet period's scope playing out in the courts, election experts recommend eligible registered voters be vigilant about checking their registration status before their states' deadlines.

For the 2026 elections, NPR has collected deadlines and information on how to register to vote — online, in person or by mail — in every U.S
I do worry about all AI being labelled the same. Not because I have a soft or hard spot for AI, but because all it makes me think of it how useless these descriptions become.
A game has to list if it has any paid in-app purchases. In theory, this should make it easier for me to avoid games with dark patterns. But it does not work for that at all. Because most games have this warning. It treats every aspect the exact same.
A game that has designed itself to be a psychological minefield to set me up to feel increasingly weaker against guessing it money is labelled the exact same way as a game that gives me a free base game but offers to let me pay for expansions if I want to, even though you will get some of the expansion content for free.
It does...nothing, for me, as a consumer. Or for anyone worried about trying to avoid badly designed dark pattern games and reward good ones.
That is not me trying to argue that some AI is "good", that's not really up to me to decide. Only labelling all products or services that feature AI at any point in their creation doesn't feel transparent. It doesn't feel like it really helps me with my choices.
I don't have a nut allergy, but if I did I find it hard to imagine that labelling every single food as saying that it could have breathed the same air as a nut as some point so you literally cannot sue us would feel super fucking helpful.
I wish all Black girls a clear shot at this world. I wish all Black girls a full belly. I wish all Black girls a respite from their many troubles. I wish all Black girls nothing but grace, prosperity, and ease. Black girls I am hoping for your continued safety and success every single day.

fun fact about character development by the way. you can make them develop worse.
like I mean this very seriously as writing advice. the character should experience events and make decisions that make them different at the end of the story. they should be changed. they do not have to be improved.
they can get worse. they can make decisions of an increasingly terrible nature. they can stop taking risks on kindness. they can discover how much they can get away with. they can find religion, or abandon it, with negative effects on their moral creed. the character has to develop. the character does not have to grow.
t his is what most people want queer/trans rep to be
this is drawn out of hatred because of a bad video I saw I'm sorry.
WHY WRITE AND MAKE FLAWED AND PERSONAL CHARACTERS WHEN YOU CAN JUST MAKE STUFF THAT IS CORPORATE FRIENDLY AND WON'T MAKE CISHET (MEN) PEOPLE UNCOMFORTABLE.

For all my fellow oversharers out there.
As a chronic people-pleaser, this is my advice for success.
Offer as little as possible. Be terse. Get rid of all those exclamation marks and tidbits about why you want to take a sick day. State your needs clearly and concisely without reason. Start saying “No, I’m unable.” more often. Say Thank You only when the other party deserves it.
