And like yeah, obviously there's more to it than that. They're a team, a Grace alone would have probably died trying to get the samples from Adrian. Or, tbh, might have never got out of his original Mental Breakdown phase and just gone fully crazy.

But from Rocky's perspective, this has to feel insane. Like we talk a lot about Grace feeling inferior to Rocky, but there's no way that Rocky wouldn't have a similar (or worse) complex about Grace.

And this isn't getting into the fact that (from Rocky's perspective) the moment he leaves Grace, everything goes to hell again. Goes to hell again because, as he later finds out, Grace bred the taumoeba in xenonite breeder tanks that Rocky designed.

Do we think he wondered, on the way back to Erid, whether things would have been fixed 46 years ago if it had been one of the Blip-A scientists who survived, and he'd just succumbed to the radiation?

Do we think Grace had to reassure him, over and over, that it was if anything Grace's fault for not foreseeing that the taumoeba would adapt to the xenonite, and that there was no way that Rocky could have designed the tanks better?

And this woman is furious. She went to prison furious and leaves furious while shoving it all down under a slick, cool demeanour that would almost be charming if she wasn’t actively fucking things up including herself. She plays everything off like it doesn’t matter or like it’s a joke and she’s terrified but won’t show that pretty soon, nothing in her life will matter. It hardly feels like it does already because her sister won’t talk to her. Hasn’t since she was arraigned. She was the badass star defender in her teens and she gets out on parole and is forced to take the job as coach—mighty ducks style. She likes the players. She will never admit it. She doesn’t talk to them like a coach, or like a friend or mentor. The only thing she hates more than this town is this town’s love affair with hockey and the mini-gods it creates on the boys/men’s side while underfunding the girls/women’s.

And the thing she hates most of all is the head coach of the AAA boys team, made up of a bunch of high schoolers who are treated like royalty. The two teams are forced to share the schedule for practice ice time. He’s divorced from his wife in all ways except legally and financially. This is not a hate to love story. She’s queer and she’s aro and the last thing she wants is romantic entanglements, even though everyone makes comments to her. When the AAA team trashes the girl’s locker room or something, she refuses to let her team retaliate. The assistant coach, the one who’s been with the team for years, who was passed over for the head coach job but refuses to quit because she cares too much, who doesn’t trust this woman but slowly and begrudgingly befriends her in part because of pity, thinks the coach is turning over a new leaf or taking the high road. Instead, the coach sleeps with the AAA coach’s wife. She’s rather take the fall, and they can’t fire her for having an affair with an adult, at least she doesn’t think. In retaliation, this guy tries to have her fired. The back half of the season finishes out where she and her team fight like hell to get to the playoffs because they’d be less likely to fire her if her team wins championships. And she knows that, and she hates it, and she’d rather go back to prison but her team needs her. And she refuses to admit even to herself that she needs them. And she hates it.

Gimmie Eridians who are absolutely heartbroken to hear that humans where so desperate and so scared that they where willing to part with not just one Grace, there were three of them! Gimmie Eridians touched to find that the humans planned a way for their sacrifices to be as comfortable as possible. Gimmie Eridians who send earth a message saying “We know it must have hurt to send your heroes to die, but one made it and he’s safe here. We lost 22 good Eridians on the journey we would have lost 23 if not for your Grace.”
