Thoughts on aromantic asexual demiplatonic Eva Stratt?

I think she's just not attracted to anyone romantically or sexually and she's sexually neutral. I think she sees it as just another thing: 20 minutes of sex, 20 minutes of mandated aftercare, 20 minutes to shower, get a coffee, and recompose herself.

And I think that she doesn't feel platonic attraction unless she trusts someone very much. And she doesn't feel it with everyone she trusts, just like a lot of people don't want to be friends with everyone they meet; trust and closeness is just a prerequisite to being able to feel platonic attraction about anyone.

I have mixed feelings on this…

As much as I love more aroace spec headcanons and characters etc, I fear this might be another case of “I headcanon this character as aroace because I view them as cold and stoic/emotionless, and because of that they clearly have no capacity for romantic love, passion, or sexuality”

Like I don’t have a problem with people hcing Stratt as aroace!! I can see it! I don’t dislike it! I would go so far as to say I enjoy it! But sometimes (sometimes!!) when people talk about it I feel like it is kind of subtly veering into the territory of “aroace people are emotionless”.

I don’t know. Maybe I just have a different reading of Stratt’s character, but I really don’t see her as being beyond romance. I think she keeps walls up, especially during the petrova project & everything, but that’s her work. She has to keep an emotional barrier up in order to be able to do what needs to be done. She not only gave up her personal freedom, but she sacrificed her ability to have a love life, to have a home life, to have friends even, for this project (for the world!). In the movie at least, you can see that barrier breaking a little bit when she sends Grace away.

That’s just my 2 cents idk 🤷 also this is mostly targeted towards the asker here no shade at all to anyone 🙏🏻

Eva Stratt is truly not mysterious, sure she seems that way, but not because she wants that, but simply because no one bothered to ask her anything about herself. When Grace asked something personal she answers, both in the book and the movie. For example she tells him in the book about how she studied history and also talks about her going to go to jail, and in the movie she tells him about the youth choir she was in.

coca cola airs a VERY insensitive commercial with some low quality eridian puppets. the commercial is slammed online and company stocks plummet

people continue to live their lives as normal. because of grace and rocky, because of the beetles, the sun is saved. earth keeps spinning.
