Hey since I’ve gotten a few new followers because of my Agatha all along fic so I’m gonna do a brief overview post…

Hey I’m Paperairplanes (real name Sara). Bisexual aromantic. As a queer middle school teacher in the fascist state of Florida (yes I am God’s strongest soldier), you owe me $5 if you say any shit about red states in the USA, book bannings, or about teaching middle schoolers. Other fun facts about me include that I’m a Quaker (no we’re not Amish. Yes religious queers exist. The more you know), I’ve been hit by a car, and I was in a cult as a child. 🎉 Also I tap dance for fun!

The Agatha All Along special interest will not go away but I’m also a Leverage blog sometimes and about once a year I get REALLY into the show Twin Peaks. I’m Laura Barton’s #1 fan and defender and I ship her in a poly triad with Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff (wanna also ship it? I can convert you in 30 seconds). I’m medicated for ADHD now so I can do things like write 26,000 words in 2 months.

Ok like. Imagine life without ads. You wake up, check your messages across a variety of apps, no ads. You get up and put on the tv while you prep your breakfast, no ads. Maybe you drive somewhere and switch on the radio, no ads. Maybe you drive a long distance, yet somehow, not a single billboard on your path. You pick up a newspaper or magazine to pass the time, no advertisements only articles. You turn on your game console, the home screen is just about your games, no ads to buy more. You open a streaming app, you don't pay extra for no ads, there's just no ads ever.

Think about how much of your time is spent looking at ads. "Download ublock" yeah I know, I have. But that doesn't change that the world is covered with endless advertising. Imagine never seeing that again. How much better our lives would be.

Discord is supposedly saying this is going to affect "only 10% of users", but I really don't believe them at all. It's always going to be way worse and affect more people than what they claim.

EDIT: Originally I also included a link to an article, about a tool that could be used to trick face scans for ID checks. I've since been informed that the tool has actually been non-functional for months, checking the GitHub for the tool itself confirms this. I'm very sorry about sharing that link without check on the tool itself!

I don't know of any other alternatives that would help bypass face scans, but hopefully someone else in the reblogs will share something new and working. Or otherwise we hopefully get to a point where Discord stops their nonsense for good.

I get so annoyed when people try to make me feel bad for hating Mansfield Park bc they always try to twist it into “actually you’re a misogynist bc you probably dislike Fanny for being too passive” meanwhile I don’t hate Mansfield Park bc of Fanny, oh no, I loved Fanny as a protagonist, in fact I identified far too much with her. My issue is the novel reads like a psychological horror story to chronic people pleasers like me bc what do u mean after all she went through she married EDMUND who’s a truly horrendous love interest, like don’t get me wrong I obviously did not want her to marry Henry but… ew… Edmund. Like I think I genuinely would’ve preferred a secret third suitor to swoop in like some sort of deus ex machina and show Fanny that there are many fish in the sea and she does not have to marry the first guy she ever had a crush on. Or alternatively I wish that Edmund had developed more as a character but oh well

It’s an unpopular opinion but it is absolutely and completely true. I’ve never seen someone who creates for engagement happy with the engagement they get. I posit they can’t ever be happy that way because it will NEVER be enough

I agree with OP and Manka so very much.

You have to rest in your own desire to create.

But, because I see statements like this turn into a sort of general notion of “it’s bad to want validation or attention or engagement”, and to me, that’s not what this means.

It’s perfectly valid to want people to like and engage with what you create. In a general sense, when you create anything, you do it to share with other human beings. Art, craft, food, anything you create is a way to connect with others through our shared humanity.

And wanting someone to like you fanart or read your fanfic is part of that.

the words used by OP is decouple, and this is important. Nothing wrong wanting engagement. But it cannot be tightly coupled with the drive to create.
