1) dump it all in a pot and mix
2) bring to a boil
3) simmer until itās hot and has a manageable amount of liquid

I wonder if it has something to do with the wholeĀ āyou need a doctorās note to excuse your absence of even one dayā combined with the average price of going to a doctor, the lack of education on things likeĀ āyouāre still contagious even after the fever goes awayā, and the overwhelming message of āif you donāt struggle through it, youāre a failure!ā
On my campus there tends to be a problem where even I you have the doctors note professors will still take points off of your final grade regardless of how sick you are. Iāve seen people show up to class with the stomach flu, pneumonia, respiratory infections and all sorts of other contagious ailments.
The school system I grew up in put an absolutely ungodly amount of pressure on kids to Show Up Every Day No Matter What. Many schools are like this, but looking back, my townās was borderline fucking dystopian. They asked me why I didnāt just āpostponeā a surgery at one pointā when I was fifteenā to give you an idea of how monumentally obtuse these people were.
So, in elementary school, I started having chicken pox symptoms, right? They were mild because I was vaccinated (yay!) but my mom recognized them quickly and took me to the doctor, because my mom is a reasonable human being with standards. The doctor said āyup, youāve got those pox, it may seem mild but please for the love of god DO NOT take her to school, she is very contagious even though she may FEEL okay.ā
So I had to stay home from school until I got clearance from my doctor to go back. I was an angry little gremlin the whole time, because I wanted to go to the school library and read books about the human skull, but my mother said, āno, you cannot leave this house, and do not scratch the bumps please.ā So I sat at home and tried not to scratch the bumps, like a good little gremlin.
A few days into my Chicken Pox Related House Arrest, we got a letter from the school. I was far from the only person with chicken pox, as it so happened. Likeā¦ a tenth of my second grade class had Confirmed Pox. We all fell ill within DAYS of each other.
So how did this happen, you ask? Well, a kid had chicken pox, and he came to school anyway. āAh, well perhaps they didnāt know,ā you may very well say. āMaybe his parents didnāt notice!ā No. No, they noticed. In fact they KNEW it was CHICKEN POX. They sent him to school anyway.
The kidās parentsā¦ā¦.. were, in fact, teachers at the school. And they KNOWINGLY made him go to school sick, because they didnāt want to risk hurting his precious āperfect attendanceā record. They figured that since he wasnāt, like, Literally Dying, it was better for him not to miss school. Never mind the fact that they were actively endangering hundreds of little kids.
Fast forward to my freshman year of college. A kid came to class with mumps because he ācouldnāt afford to missā. Guess what happened? Mumps outbreak! Diseases are, as it turns out, good at being diseases! Vaccinations are phenomenal, but they can only do so much, and some people rely on herd immunity to not be killed by preventable illness.
This entire attitude needs to die. Itās dangerous. Food service workers are forced to show up sick, little kids are forced to show up sick, college students show up sick because theyāre afraid of flunking out.
And on top of it all, misinformation campaigns are encouraging people not to get vaccinations! Itās 2019 and weāre flirting with the plague! Next thing you know some blogger is gonna be like āactually we should all be fucking rats and eating our meat raw, death to all science and god bless americaā

huge fan of the headcanon of eddie coming out to buck & confessing his love in one go because heās sure buck will reciprocate, and buck rejecting eddie on the spot because heās taken off guard and hasnāt had the chance to process what the enormous amount he Feels for eddie even means because up until now eddieās been Straight and his Best Friend and a renter.
so maybe eddieās in the dumps and heās a little tipsy and lamenting to henren because buckās been burying himself in theo and work and procedure and anything that doesnāt have to do with eddie for the past week, and karen ends up setting him up on a casual date with a coworker of hers for the night after next. no pressure, no biggie. just a way for him to get out and maybe get some of the weight off of his shoulders for a couple hours by getting to know someone.
and buck hears about it, of course he does, because raviās razzing eddie in the locker room the next morning about the outfit heās picked to change into after shift, chimneyās asking for pictures of the guy, and harryās trying not to look at buck like heās a kicked puppy. heās antsy and irritable all shift, out of sync on the minimal calls they do have and skulking around the station for the most part because of course itās a q-word shift, why wouldnāt it be.
by the time theyāre off the 24 his body drives him to maddieās house outside of his own volition, and as he knocks frantically on the front door all he can think is that heās glad chimās still held up at the station when maddie opens up and the first thing he blurts out is āiām in love with eddie.ā
maddie blinks, face shifting into something next to sympathy and understanding, and says, āi know.ā
he tells her everything. by the time heās spiraling into eight different ways to sunday that karenās coworker could end up being eddieās soulmate all because buck screwed up his one chance, maddie cuts him off.
ābuckāback around when you started dating tommy, i told you something.ā she pauses, pointed, and buck takes a breath. āi told you that if you had something to tell eddie, that you wouldā¦ but it would be in your own time.ā
buck swallows. maddie nods.
āi think youāve found your time.ā
ābut maddie, heās on a dateāā

and so he does. heās skidding down the walkway and hopping in his truck cartoonishly fast, eddieās location blinking away on his phone at some restaurant on the outskirts of the city, screen brightness near illuminating the cab in the evening shadow. seconds or lightyears could have passed by by the time heās veering into a parallel spot on the street, crooked and careless, a drizzle beginning to dot the windshield, heart thumping desperately in his chest and whooshing through his eardrums. he crashes through the front door, entrance bell clattering, breath heaving, andā

the most beautiful thing heās ever seen, bewildered and confused and a touch rightfully angry, cheeks flushed and hair carefully swept away from his face, deep burgundy button down collar flared open to the third button, st. christopherās medallion winking under the low light.

he had more to say, rehearsed it to all hell and jumbled in his head on repeat on the drive there, but itās all stuck in his throat. eddieās dateājohn, or ron, or don, whoever he isāis looking between them, expression neutral if a little curious. buck disregards him. tries again.
āiādonāt. donāt finish this date.ā
eddieās annoyance flares, then, a fire of challenge in his eyes, hurt and defiance and something else so close to hope that it burns at the back of buckās throat and behind his eyes until he can taste it.

suddenly eddieās storming past him, linen napkin fluttering from the table to the empty seat of his chair before plopping to the ground, an air of date night cologne and pomade clouding buckās senses until all that remains is a homing beacon pulling him after eddie. he follows the tinkle of the bell at the door and shoulders past the glass before it closes.
rainās coming down heavy, now. he wades through it, sweatshirt soaking and dampening his undershirt to stick to his skin, and catches eddieās shoulder before he can make it to his truck.
āwhat?ā eddie asks. he has to speak up over the rain. itās meant to be sharp, but itās too weak to come across right. buckās heart clenches, quick and painful.
āiām sorry,ā buck emphasizes, tightening his grip just a little harder, pressing the apology into the meat of eddieās flesh through the sodden layer of his shirt.
eddieās jaw tightens.
āiām an idiot.ā buck continues. eddieās eyes shimmer bright, even through the rain, and his brow twitches. he remains silent.
āitāsāā buckās words get caught in his throat again, and he canāt avoid how they break on the next breath. āitās always been you.ā he swallows. āitāll always be you.ā
then eddieās fingers are twisting in the neckline of his hoodie, nails brushing slick skin, and buck shifts his hand from eddieās shoulder to the perfect cut of his freshly shaven jaw to cradle his face just as their lips slot together.
