the difference to me, by the way, when it comes to sidney crosbyβs acts of goodness and kindness versus nico hischierβs, is that i believe sid is aware that he is choosing to do good or kind things because deep in the recesses of his mind exists an abacus on which he is tallying the worth of his soul and he is always fighting in the spiritual trenches to keep that thing in the green. thereβs a sort of self-awareness to sidβs kindness and generosity, like a gently smug kind of layer deep down underneath it where he knows heβs just bought himself one more opportunity to grab an opposing player by the knees and spin-launch them into the boards like mario does to bowser. every time he screeches at someone on the ice with a cracking voice that theyβre being a pussy or steamrolls into an early-twenties player for no reason but the crime of being gen z he knows he has to go out into the world and perform a miracle. this has nothing to do with his public perception btw he does not care what the world thinks of him. itβs all for his private and meticulously kept internal abacus.
nico, however, does good and is kind because the concept of behaving another way does not seem to ever register in his mind. he is being the best nico he can be. he believes everyone around him, even jack hughes, is both trying their best and also proud of everything they try. even jack hughes! if nico wasnβt a hockey player his chosen career would be like a guy who listens to 911 calls and dispatches himself to them. heβd be a guy who holds the nose of the plane steady during turbulence. heβd be a professional guy who squeezes your hand once and tells you how brave youβre being at the dentists or the doctors. and heβd mean it. he does think youβre being brave. he thinks everyone is being brave. even jack hughes
the composition of this picture of sid (credit: dave sandford). lets discuss.
Someone said "Are you really so stupid to think that Africa has the same technological advances as us? If they did they would probably have clean water and not live in houses made of sticks and mud. Get over yourself and stop being so ignorant."..... Below is a tiny collection of images of the Africa they refuse to show you..
ches
Iβm sorry youβve been made to believe that the whole of Africa is poor, I really am..
Reblogging for those of you who think Africa is only what the media and movies portrays it to be
This fucks me up because itβs scary to think that we can be showed something all our lives and not even know itβs a lie
And that my friend is the power of propaganda, indoctrination, and media
Are these pictures of South Africa or of Africa as a whole?Β
@the-collecting-turnip From top to bottom:
1. Port Elizabeth (South Africa)
2. Unknown
3. Nairobi (Kenya)
4. Pretoria (South Africa)
5. Aburi Botanical Gardens (Ghana)
6. Cape Town (South Africa)
7. Pretoria (South Africa)
8. Harare (Zimbabwe)
9. Windhoek (Namibia)
10. Windhoek (Namibia)
To @kushandwizdom this is a rather unfair portrayal of Africa as a whole since half of these are literally just South Africa.Β So Instead to add to this post and better dispel the myth of Africa as the vast wasteland of poverty most people think, I found a much more mixed collection of pics from various countries.
Luanda, Angola
Agadir, Morocco
Lagos, Nigeria
Cairo, Egypt
Port Louis, Mauritius
Abidjan, Cote dβIvoire
Algiers, Algeria
Tripoli, Libya
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Tunis, Tunisia
So, there, a much better case demonstrating the various major cities around Africa showing it isnβt some technologically backwards continent, but actually pretty up-and-coming in the world of commerce.
I once was talking to my Ethiopian manager about ignorant people asking her dumb shit about her life before she moved to the statesβ¦
the worst story she told me about was when she told a fellow student (at a fairly prestigious university) about a concert she went to back home. The other student responded with βomg you have music there!?β π€¦πΎββοΈ
Rebloging, because we need to see these pictures.Β
As for stupid questions:Β βdo you have grocery stores in Ecuador?β
These are great!
A redneck neighbor once asked my mom (in the 80s) if they had cars in Peru. Sigh.
This is the product of poor world history in school & little current affairs coverage outside Western Europe, except for catastrophes, so all we see are the war torn, poverty stricken, disaster-affected parts on the news. And racism, of course.
I bet most Americans who think that African countries are just completely poverty stricken have no idea what the US looks like in its poorest areas, not everywhere in the US is nice suburbs or unrealistically large apartments on tv
Los Angeles, California
Hartford, Connecticut
New Orleans, Louisiana
Camden, New Jersey
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
McDowell County, West Virginia
Flint, Michigan
Washington, D.C.
Do you see the world as it is, or as someone told you it is?
This photoset proves you can make anywhere look great or terrible. Itβs all framing and more people should know about that
Worth a reblog. I donβt think the US version was on there when I first reblogged.
All of this is true, and also- those stick and mud houses are actually amazing examples of indigenous African knowledge. They are being studied for their thermal properties and sustainability.
Of course traditional African homes look different from homes in the US or Europe- theyβve started from different climates and resources. Itβs such racist hubris to assume different means lesser-than.
Hey Fam Thank you for coming by Another video here answering why we sleep in grass thatched houses Hahahha some people clearly donβt know wh
https://share.google/MCbqIYkdTvWZ3TgTA
also also, the racism of saying βoh they build with sticks and mudβ like we donβt do the same thing. Stick-built is a fucking category of Victorian house! Stucco is just mud! Plaster is just mud! Adobe is just mud! Clay is just mud! EVERYONE builds with sticks and mud! Itβs very telling that people only use words like βsticksβ and βmudβ when theyβre being insulting. Buddy I live in a house made of sticks and mud too.

The Sporting News, September 15, 2008: Roommate Confidential
Thrashers forward Colby Armstrong spent 2/2 seasons in Pittsburgh before being traded to Atlanta in February, and during that time he got to know Penguins phenom Sidney Crosby pretty well. Armstrong shares tales from the road, including what itβs like to bunk with the brightest star in the game. Who's the best roommate you've had? I'd say Crosby. Heβs pretty focused on hockey. When you're on the road, we got ready for the games the whole time. We like to relax, watch TV and hang out. It's pretty easygoing. He doesn't want to tunaround town. What was it like rooming with someone so famous? Depending on the city we were in, we'd make dinner reservations in the same spot. They knew we were coming every time. We'd let them know Sid was coming to make sure (distractions) are taken care of. What makes a good roommate? You have to be on the same page. The one thing with me and Sid, nothing really bothered him, He was a heavy, heavy sleeper. Plus, I snore alittle bit. It doesn't bother him. If Crosby is the best roommate, whoβs the worst? My brother (Sharks forward Riley Armstrong). He's just annoying. He doesn't pick up after himself. Heβs a little too comfortable around me. I haven't beat him up i na few years, so maybe one is on the way.
if we are mutuals we will be reborn into the same cicada horde
did a bit of driving through the state of georgia today and wound up driving through a small town that i later discovered was called newborn, which is an odd name but doesnβt technically have anything wrong with it, except for the fact that i nearly gave myself whiplash doing a double-take at a building sign advertising NEWBORN TAXIDERMY
