NO GODS NO MASTERS

I liked the buzzing of the air conditioner in the detox room. It felt like an old friend watching over me and keeping me safe for three days while we kept losing consciousness. I liked the way the sunlight looked streaming through the window at Hope lodge and I wished I could climb inside of it. I liked the way the guy who made me cry during group therapy would play the acoustic guitar and sing Hallelujah and i liked to sit facing the wall and listening to him. By the time we came back again he was gone and another patient told me he had said before he left that he was sad he never got to apologize to the “little guy” he hadn’t meant to be mean to and make me cry during group that day and i hid in the shower because that was the only room we were allowed to have a lock and I knew they’d be trying to find me and wanted to be alone.
