If things related to Jewishness or Judaism immediately make you say Free Palestine you are an antisemite. If you cannot see a Star of David without thinking Free Palestine then you are an antisemite. Thatās all there is to it. āBut thereās no bad time to advocate for a free Palestine!ā Yet you donāt say it on LGBTQ pride posts. You donāt say it to random Christian people. You donāt say it about random posts about disabled people. There is one and only one minority whoās existence elicits a flood of āfree Palestine.ā
So here's the thing (on this website where we piss on the poor, so I already am slightly resigned to the consequences of this post):
I have to cautiously say there's a middle ground here. I do, in fact, carefully look over any post about Judaism, Jewishness, or that has a Star of David, because sometimes those posts are, in fact, support of z*onism and the genocide of Palestinians. And sometimes they're not. Posts that equate saying "Free Palestine" with "Heil H*tler", for example...
And I think this has a lot to do with a concerted z*onist effort to discredit all criticisms against a political entity as religious discrimination. I, as a Muslim, will actively say that the religion of Islam is misinterpreted in terrible ways that often hurt the LGBTQ+ community and women as a whole, but I can separate that from saying all Muslims are misogynists and homophobes.
Because z*onism has spent so long tying itself up directly to the Jewish faith, it means now whenever I see posts I have to really go through them critically and see: is this a z*onist coopting a religion to try and absolve them of any criticism, or is this a post made in good faith (literally)?
I can already kinda predict how this is going to go for me, and I wish I had an easy answer to this. I don't know how to distance yourself from one extremist (genocidal) aspect that is, at the moment, a large percentage of all voices on mainstream internet. If I knew how to do that, people's perceptions of Islam would be different. And so people - WRONGLY, let me make this clear - decide not to do a modicum of critical thinking and just reaction post to everything Jewish, because they don't take the time to separate it.
But I also don't think it's fair to try and equate people saying Free Palestine to praising H*tler, primarily because that's a fundamental misunderstanding of the Free Palestine movement that only feeds into z*onist rhetoric.
