Omg this is from that girl on TikTok who did the vlog of herself reading the books and it’s so true. She was constantly forgetting about Gale it was so funny.
And when she dose think of him it increasingly becomes more out of a sense of obligation or desperation like - 'oh better go talk to him or he'll get jealous that me & Finnick were spending time together' (even though Finnick is in he's 20's & regularly crying about Annie) or 'maybe resting my head against he's chest for a moment will help with the soul crushing loneliness I've been tormented by for weeks because of truma'.
She has like one moment of feeling jealous about Madge delivering the medicine for Gale where she tries thinking about if the roles where reversed & Gale came back with a random fake girlfriend that "took up all he's time" to which she states that she'd be pissed but for bassically the entire serise she keeps lamenting about how she wishes things could go back to normal (before Prim's name came out of the bowl) between them which is like yeah Peeta wasn't there then but Katniss & Gale were never daiting &, at least on Katniss's end, never had plans or a desire to.
Katniss never wanted to lead anyone on, she was just trying to survive & she wanted her friend but Gale made it more confusing then it honestly needed to be.
If Gale hadn't brought up having kids, Dariou's flirty comment, asked her if she loved him & start throwing those "do I have to compete with Peeta now" sulks I honestly don't think Katniss would have kissed him at all (except maybe that one time in MJ when she was trying to convince her body that it wasn't dead). So congrats Gale your only wingmen, when it comes to katniss, seem to be - poverty (they only intinally become friends through the necessity of illegal hunting), guilt, depression & CPTSD.
All Peeta had was some burnt bread, kindness & a complete lack of self preservation (he's not stupid just crazy loyal coupled with low self-worth).
