I get in theory why people complain about het ships or whatever, I get wanting to watch queer media I really do, but I guess where y’all lose me is like. I saw some asshole on a post about Sinners complaining it was “hetslop”—this person was specifically doing so while also claiming Remmick was a queer character and thus they were justified in caring more about him than the Black protagonists. which is a whole other disgusting can of worms that has been well addressed by others at this point. but even in the absence of that part of the argument, like, no, i actually don’t think that a hunger for queer stories is an especially good excuse to deride and dismiss a piece of landmark Black filmmaking, especially as a non-Black person. I have a post that’s been going around encouraging folks to engage with more Native stories and characters, and I had someone come onto that post saying in the tags that they’d need these stories to be queer in order to care. and I just think that, you know, sucks! like obviously as a queer Native I also want to see more of those stories too. but idk how else to put it other than to say that Black people and people of color shouldn’t have to be like you in order for you to care about our narratives and experiences. and I think some of y’all are using this disdain for heterosexuality as a cover for your unexamined racial biases. it’s not okay to be racist to people just because those people happen to be straight, and you continue to be white before you are queer.
on an even more basic level than that, also, I simply just think some of y’all NEED to learn how to interact with media and storytelling without ships and fandom in mind. like if not being able to write fic about two men kissing is genuinely going to be a dealbreaker for you I think that’s actually something you need to work on within yourself because at that point I think you’re no longer really interacting with art and themes and narrative so much as just kind of playing with toys. which is, like, fine I guess. have fun. but it wouldn’t kill you to disengage from that from time to time. especially if would allow you to actually appreciate rich and deeply moving cultural stories from communities of color that you desperately need to learn how to see as human

Lestat with his religious trauma seeing THE most catholic-guilt ridden man in New Orleans and being like "that one, I want that one" will never not be amazing
louis going out of his way to drink lestats blood after learning about his relationship to gabriella is actually so important because it’s his way of showing lestat that despite what louis said earlier he is not disgusted by him. he still loves him, he still wants him and he wants to share his blood with him (something which according to lestat is more intimate than having sex)

I know Daniel is kind of an asshole sometimes but I absolutely reject this idea that he wouldn’t take Armand’s trauma seriously. Especially not when Marius is such a lying asshole.
He’s crass and blunt but he’s also good at his job, and at his core he was, by his own admission, looking for people in the cracks. That’s who he was when he starting out. That’s the purest view of his aspirations we’ve seen, and returning to that after struggling so much with Lestat doesn’t feel unrealistic to me. I don’t know if there is someone who has slipped further into the cracks than Armand.
And unlike Lestat, who is intentionally winding Daniel up and has no desire to tell the whole truth, Armand on two separate occasions has demonstrated willingness to volunteer information about his past. He wants to be known more than anything, even if his view of his abuse isn’t super clear to him.
Considering the nature of the things Daniel’s discussed researching before, I find it nearly impossible to believe human trafficking hasn’t come up. He’s interviewed sex workers and frankly it’s not too much of a leap. He’s mentioned being held captive while doing an interview (that wasn’t in San Francisco) and seems to have met some really bad people so it’s not hard to believe that he’s spoken to victims like this before, or at least come across them.
And it’s not like it’s a stranger or someone he knows is trying to deceive him as Armand was during the Dubai interview. This is Armand, the lost love of his life. His maker. Daniel visibly felt bad for him after the concert and he probably doesn’t know why yet. He should still hate him and yet he couldn’t hide the concern on his face. Imagine him when he’s actually trying to help him piece together the many broken pieces of his life. Imagine him when he knows he’s in love with him.
I’m not expecting Gen Z therapy speak from this seventy year old man. He’ll probably be blunt and unhelpful at times and impatient and trigger the hell out of Armand, but he called Magnus Lestat’s abuser and he doesn’t tolerate bullshitters, which was the very reason he was so rude to Armand in Dubai. He ought to see Marius for the manipulative, obfuscating, condescending monster he really is. Armand wants the truth, Marius refuses to tell it. It’s also doubtful the Talamasca has much on Marius regarding his abuse of Armand aside from the basic facts, and Armand has disclosed very little. You’d need Armand’s account for that.
It’s one thing to know the bullet points of what he went through. Hearing the details is something different entirely. You don’t see the look in Armand’s eyes as he tries to recall if he even knows his own name by opening a Talamasca file. Daniel isn’t soulless and you’d have to be in order to feel nothing about Armand’s story. I get about twenty pages into TVA before I already want to be sick and this is the love of his life.

I didn’t even think about the fact that Armand is likely completely desensitised to sexual abuse being broadcasted for all to see because his own was painted and hung in museums for millions of people to gawk at. Not only does he think his abuse was love, he thinks it’s not a big deal for it to be shown off. Sure, it hurts, but just push that down and don’t think about it.
The video is a means to an end. Yes, it’s undeniably bad, but it happened to you and you’re fine, right? Right? So Lestat will be too… eventually. Won’t he? People will talk for a while but it’ll all be washed away by time. What matters is right now.
Just keep pushing it down. Don’t think about the donations. Don’t think about the voyeurism forced onto you. Don’t think about the centuries of eyes undressing you, that you exist in public and private collections. Don’t think about the new wave of people visiting the Louvre in light of Daniel’s book to make degrading comments about what they want to do to you, posting it online to their followers. Don’t think about what this will do to Lestat, who you love. This is love. This is what love can look like. Love is supposed to hurt. And it’s a means to an end. Lestat is strong. Much stronger than you. That in part is what you love about him. He’s what you could never be. He will be fine. Just don’t think about it. Don’t think about it.
