It really came down out there. And it rained on and off all day. The Dad, the Mom and Big-J sat down playing Quiddler this evening to celebrate the rains and their Fri-Yay-Day! Lil-J behaved like an angel and kept herself busy with Lincoln logs, cars and beanie babies...although she’d occasionally walk up to, for reassurance and a hug time. Big-J got the most words, while her Dad and Mom ran into a tie and finished equal. May we make many more cozy family evenings like this...because kids won’t remember their best day of television. When 10 wedded years felt like yesterday... And the two kids we raise, reassure it wasn’t!!🙂🙃 We had a quiet post-marriage anniversary celebration at home this weekend, as it snowed season’s first outside...❄️🌨 There were warm laughter, stories, fond memories and simple food with spice, colors and unfathomable love. On the menu was: **my quick adapted version of Chinese chicken fried rice with fried eggs. The handful of corn, peas and carrot bits I threw in, was to put my “no-dinner-without-any-veggies state of mind” to rest 🙈 **Indo-Chinese ginger chicken. I cut skinless boneless chicken breast strips and cooked them in seasonings, with onions, scallions and loads of julienned fresh ginger. It made all our taste buds do a happy little rock and roll. 🍲 **then there were some sliced green chillies dunk in vinegar and some yummy hot and sweet garlic chilly sauce to go with rice 🌶 **and then the one that was much needed....my favorite chilled peach Bellini with a maraschino cherry 🍸 Our souls, minds, hearts and stomachs were fed too well tonight! And here’s cheering to many more happy summers together with the Hubbyman. It’s Sunday night foodism... Made some Awadhi style Mutton Biryani for us. And this was second time in a row this week, on demand. Ma and Hubbyman adore it most. This is one way I’ve done it since so many years now. I rarely use food color in my recipe unlike tonight. One month came too fast, passed too quickly...everyday travels, crazy office days, blissful offline hours with family, and a blog downtime...and this still-not-rested-enough soul is trying to slowly bounce back to her online-life....hoping all days to bring in big smiles and some more warm sunshine before winter! During this hibernation, there were many humble meals cooked and lazy eat-outs, and yet no pics captured through a lens. Had a good food of labor 😁A laborious Sunday's dinner this was... Chickpeas pulao, rosemary potatoes, a sunny side up, some onions and yogurt (not in the pic). It was the easiest I could go... --For rosemary potatoes, I sautéed then cover cover cooked some chopped potatoes with picked rosemary leaves, crushed garlic, fresh ground black peppers and salt. --For the pulao, I tempered some shajeera, black cardamoms, cinnamon and bay leaf in ghee. Fried onions. Added soaked and drained rice and boiled chickpeas and cooked them together with some salt. After reorganizing the kitchen cabinets, doing laundry, deep cleaning the carpets and sorting a huge heap of toys and blocks in the kids play area (one tough job I say)...the food was quite the pampering I needed. Big-J turned 8 on Friday and it was a big deal for her. (Though she thinks she looks too tiny😋) She eternally loves vanilla, so this mom baked 4 large batches of vanilla cupcakes to share at school, her tennis class and for her Girl Scout troop on Saturday. 65 were made in all! The cupcakes came out perfect with evenly round tops. Then this mommy took over to do the vanilla flavored buttercream hydrangeas on each of them...and she piped till midnight. The frosting business could've been done better, if not half sleepily 🙈. I first thought the flowers wouldn't pair well with the emoji toppers Big-J ordered, but then they all came together beautifully. The Birthday girl smiled from ear to ear and brought home too many brownie points from friends and teachers! Our weekend was well spent too....with happiness, lots of food and much rest.
