I wish boobs were detachable. Because sometimes I want to look like a genderless being, other times the outfit needs boobs.
I've always thought about this.
In the early 70s Sesame Street was created with an eye towards educating poor, inner-city children for free, and became a massive hit with all children. In 2016, faced with going off the air forever after facing conservative efforts to destroy public broadcasting since basically its beginning, new episodes became a timed exclusive for premium cable network HBO. In 2022 HBO Max, newly merged with and taken over by reality TV channel Discovery, removed Sesame Street episodes and spin-offs from streaming as a tax write-off and scheme to avoid paying residuals.
Sesame Street's official YouTube channel is uploading the episodes for free, btw. A lot of creators are rebelling against this bullshit.
Sesame Street on PBS KIDS. Play games with Elmo, Big Bird, Abby and all of your Sesame Street friends. Watch videos and print coloring pages
As always, America, PBS has you and your kids' backs.
I also want to put in a plug for the American Archive of Public Broadcasting, spearheaded by GBH in Boston to preserve and make available public funded programming from around the country.Β More than 7000 public television and radio programs are available to stream through the website, with more than 40000 hours of programming archived and available to researchers and educators through the Library of Congress and GBH itself.

So I went to read the Kids Online Safety Act, thinking that it couldn't possibly be as bad as what people are making it out to be, I mean I'm a lawyer and expert in statutory interpretation, it can't be that bad, right?
Oh no. KOSA IS that bad. It will literally eradicate queer people online.
The bill says that a "covered platform" - broadly defined as "anything on the internet a minor might use" which is literally the entire fucking internet- has a "duty" to protect minors from anything that might harm them, including "sexual exploitation" and other undefined terms
It also gives state attorneys general the ability to sue to enforce it.
So here's exactly what's gonna happen:
Wacko republicans, as they've been doing with increasing force this year and last, are going to sue any and every website in existence, saying that the mere existence of LGBT people online constitutes sexual abuse of minors. And websites are gonna be so afraid of not doing the most that they'll just axe all LGBT everything.
Like. Republicans have been calling all LGBT people groomers and child molesters for years. The lead Republican literally admitted this bill will be used to attack trans people.
This bill is BAD bad. I'm appalled that democrats are lining up behind what is clearly a republican Trojan horse to eradicate LGBT people from the entire internet.
Call your senator
Cosponsors of S.1409 - 118th Congress (2023-2024): Kids Online Safety Act
this is a list of senators who have cosponsored KOSA; under 'Give Feedback on This Bill' there's a link that lets you get the contact of your senators and representatives pretty easily. if your senator's a cosponsor, tell them to cut that shit out. if your senator's not a cosponsor, tell them to keep not being a cosponsor.
β’ Traction please.
We must not let this pass.
Itβs spooky season bois.
his legal name being 'and ken' is so genius he's literally just barbie's accessory this movie is for real men

Iβve said this before and Iβll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL
βoh we shouldnβt teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where itβs noisy or they need to be quietβ
My mom learned it because she figured sheβll go deaf when she gets old
My family went holiday SCUBA diving once, and a couple of Deaf guys were in the group. I was really little and I spent most of the briefing overcome with the realization that while the rest of us were going to have regulators in our mouths and be underwater fairly soon, they were going to be able to do all the same stuff and keep talking.
The only reason some form of sign language is not a standard skill is ableism, as far as I can tell.
For anyone interested in learning, Bill Vicars has full lessons of ASL on youtube that were used in my college level classes.Β
https://www.youtube.com/user/billvicars
and hereβs the link to the website he puts in his videos:
https://www.lifeprint.com/
Update: you guys this is an amazing resource for learning asl. Bill Vicars is an incredible teacher. His videos are of him teaching a student in a classroom, using the learned vocabulary to have conversations.
Not only is the conversation format immersive and helpful for learning the grammar, but the students make common mistakes which he corrects, mistakes I wouldnβt have otherwise know I was making.
He also emphasizes learning ASL in the way itβs actually used by the Deaf community and not the rigid structure that some ASL teachers impose in their classrooms
His lesson plans include learning about the Deaf community, which is an important aspect of learning ASL. Knowing how to communicate in ASL without the knowledge of the culture behind it leaves out a lot of nuances and explanations for the way ASL is.
Lastly, his lessons are just a lot of fun to watch. He is patient, entertaining, and funny. This good natured enthusiasm is contagious and learning feels like a privilege and not a chore
And itβs all FREE. Seriously. If youβve ever wanted to learn ASL
Learn sign language for our Deaf folks, and because itβs fun! Useful for hearing people, too, in ways I had never thought of until I started learning.
For example, signing is super helpful for small children who are pre-verbal or newly-verbal. Canβt talk? No problem! Using sign, kiddos can ask for things, or share something they saw out the window, or tell you they are sleepy or hungry or happy. It definitely eases their frustration with adults who canβt understand their speech.
And I will never forget my 9-mos kid signing βmilkβ while nursing. (For reference, a childβs first word is usually between 12 and 18 mos old. But they can sign much younger.)
When I taught little kids, we learned to fingerspell for a few reasons. One, because then they can always spell a word when they donβt know the sign. Two, it gave them a kinesthetic element to their letters, including learning the alphabet without thinking that βlmnopβ was one word instead of individual lettersβa common mistake caused by the rhythm of the ABC song (as itβs taught in the United States). And three, it increased their manual dexterity like whoa. (Which is apparently a thing to worry about now! Because kids do more touch screens and less manipulation of objects! Curse you, modernity!)
With my own kid, I think our babysign vocabulary was only about 25 signs, but it covered the basics. βPotty,β in particular, is useful to this day, because then I can check in with a tween who doesnβt want me broadcasting their business across a room, or sign to my spouse at a loud party that Iβm hitting the loo.
I never would have guessed sign language would help my spouse, since heβs not really into languages and struggles to learn them, but he has migraines and sometimes he canβt talk because the sound echoes inside his skull. Sometimes he canβt even nod or shake his head when I ask him a question. But he can sign yes or no, can ask for water or a particular food, can tell me itβs too loud or too hot or any number of things I need to know. (Itβs also super cute to see a sick family member totally covered in blankets with only one hand sticking out just long enough to sign βyesβ when you ask them if they want soup.)
And hereβs the thing I never could predict: my moody tweenager wants to talk about their feelings but doesnβt want to actually have to TALK about them. Theyβll sign it, though. If I ask how they are doing, I rarely get an answer. If I sign it, though, they might sign back. I think it feels safer than saying it aloud? Less committal? Kind of secret?
And wow, did boring family gatherings get better when we learned the signs for βboringβ and βhomeβ β both of those are pretty easy to conceal as normal movements, but my kid can tell me in secret code that theyβre bored to tears and want to go home without insulting their grandparents.
I am not fluent in sign language (yet). We mostly learn signs when we discover something we have a frequent need to communicate, so weβre picking up vocabulary kind of piecemeal. I couldnβt have a coherent or long conversation with a native speaker. But thereβs still a lot I could communicate, and the process of learning has changed my family for the better.
Learn some sign language! You wonβt regret it!
Omg, the degree to which ableist mainstream society wants to avoid sign languages at ALL COST.
My daughter was born HOH, and I was really freaked out at first, thinking that was gonna be the big challenge with this kid. (LITTLE DID I KNOW IT WAS ADHD BUT THATβS ANOTHER STORY)
Novel-length diatribe under the cut, because wow, this got long.

sometimes being visibly queer is terrifying but sometimes it is the best and most wonderful thing in the world
when the person helping you at the store is also visibly queer, and they're holding it in but you can tell they're just so happy to see you. to say hello. or when you meet an older queer person and they are So kind to you, like they're determined to be a good thing that happens to you today. or when someone on the sidewalk picks you out of everyone to ask for directions because they know you're safe. when you walk past someone and clock each other and make the smallest eye contact, just to say i see you. thank you. we're in this together
It's good to be with family
Hey so it's come to my attention that the Creators of Disco Elysium want you to share the game and not give the company who took over and fired them (illegally)?) any profits off of their ideas and work, and I originally joined tumblr 2 weeks ago when that post was going around about the Steam sale and how you should [Skull and Crossbones flag] it instead.

They also usually have free wifi. One of the few places you can use the wifi without being expected to buy something.
watching movies is so much more fun once your ear is trained to recognize the Wilhelm scream and the Dies Irae
You both get it
If you would like to join the fun and train your ear (aka never be able to be normal during a movie again)
Wilhelm Scream compilation
Dies Irae compilation
Another important truth
the background frogs are always the same, too
the frogs/toads are not native to dfw. the red tailed hawks are. dies irae hasn't been native anywhere in over a century, and the wilhelm scream is just how everyone screams at least once in their life, which explains how common it is.
