The call-and-response is important. Two people can have a conversation and think that they are agreeing but have completely different takeaways. 

I recall a story from the daughter of a military pilot, whose dad would always say the words “you have control” when he handed her back her baby - and wouldn’t actually let go of the baby until she said “I have control” back to him.

This is absolutely crucial in certain dangerous workplaces, like theatre stagecraft. Hollering back a summary of the command (e.g. “line set 16 coming in midstage” “thank you line set 16”) helps confirm not only that you heard it, but that you know what is happening AND repeating the call in case there’s someone who didn’t hear it. Also, many theatre folks have also worked in kitchens, so we have inherited calls like “corner!” and “point!” for rounding corners while carrying large props and furniture pieces. Not as big as flying planes or trains, but safety is absolutely crucial at every turn.

This should absolutely be implemented in every rail system around the world

As an asthmatic, this was critical advice. It can also be helpful to splash cold water on the back of your neck or forehead, which helps distract you from the panic. 

If you are having issues with what it feels like breathing in a mask, practice in a calm environment where you feel relaxed, and if you can’t get it to be ok, try different masks.

You know EVENTUALLY they’re going to get hit with the magical equivalent of being snowed in together, right?

college is catered towards the able bodied and able minded. school applauds people who can stay up all night, skip meals, and work endlessly. that kind of extreme contribution is expected. why are disabled people being squeezed out of academic institutions? why should I feel inferior because of some arbitrary and ridiculous standard?
