I grew up in an area where basically every house had a basement, and it was interesting to me to learn when I got a bit older that that's not universal everywhere, since a lot of places are too swampy or otherwise have terrain unsuitable for basements. Very obvious once you think about it a little, but not something you necessarily consider as a small child who has lived in the same region for their whole life
