alright, due to some issues with my previous writting i have been forced to start over again, i decided to go for an OC set in a shonen set in modern day. the twist is that our character is the rival to the shonen protagonist not the hero.
here's the concept, our boy doesn't have special powers, what he does have is sword autism and a pretty face this means he has trouble expressing himself and comes off as cool and haughty. in reality he's just got no idea what to say.
in a world filled with magic and ki all our boy has is his poker face, and his skill.
in essance they're a weak but skilled, bunny eared lawyer type.
it should be noted that i'm not planing on any tragic backstory for this character, what i'm going for is someone who wakes up practices with a sword all day and then goes to bed. and they do this because they like it. they do have a habit of pissing off everyone and not having magic of ki they seem to be baiting everyone around them into a fight. they're just awkward when sword fighting though that's all.
weaknesses and powers under the cut
weaknesses
Magically Inept - +400cp
You seem to have no grasp of the intricacies of magic of this world in both casting of Magic-Spells and the uses of Magic-Circles are entirely beyond your comprehension.
While you can use Magic-Tools and know the effects of the Magic-Spells but you could not even memorize any magic incantations during your time here.
Though it won’t affect you as a Warrior in the long run but you won’t gain the destructive and versatile capabilities of the Magicians.
This also applies to your Out of Context Magic-Spells, Formations, Runes and Magic-Circles.
The Undefeated Jumper of the East (+200cp)
Looks like you have a fearsome reputation, jumper, one for being the hottest shit around.
Too bad the only way you see that reflected is how challengers come to fight you in a regular basis. From the start, they will all be worthy and have something that makes them give a good battle.
You can keep a toggle-able version post jump if you enjoy having a challenge battle every Saturday.
Drill Sergeant +100
Most see you as more of a machine than a human being, struggling to empathise with that emotionless face of yours.
Your stoic nature is sure to become quite famous, as even the worst shocks and horrors fail to make your face twitch.
You’ll still feel everything as normal but outsiders continually fail to understand, misreading face and body language completely.
Even your tone remains a steady level.
Misunderstandings abound, from believing you care little for your friend’s losses to others not trusting your devotion to the cause.
Face Blind + 200 CP
You don’t get people. The expressions they make simple don’t make sense to you unless you spend a lot of time studying that individual person to get an understanding of them in particular. As a result you are more likely to get by acting like a bad stereotype than by being more ‘genuine’ as it may creep people out.
Poison Tongue Jumper + 100 CP
Boy, that’s a hell of a mouth you got. You’re a bit easy to set off, and whenever you get mad, the insults start flying. Just a few sentences can send just about any mortal running to avoid future tongue lashing. They do spread the word about it though, so it has a tendency to ruin your reputation in an area whenever it happens.
Dedicated to the Grind +100 CP
Training can be a very time consuming task. Particularly for individuals who are truly dedicated to their craft. You seem to be one of these individuals which is both a good thing and a bad thing.
It’s good since you’ll definitely be putting the work in to get stronger. Bad since you’ll constantly be thinking about it. Your mind will automatically drift to training no matter what you’re doing. This can cause you to excessively push yourself, become withdrawn, and even forget to eat if you’re not careful.
Thankfully, you can control this with some effort, but your mind will always start to drift after a certain point.
My Honor [+200]
Being a deeply honorable individual, you often find yourself extending mercy to your enemies, granting them a chance for redemption before delivering a final blow. This honorable stance sometimes leads you to let your guard down, making you more susceptible to deception by cunning adversaries who exploit your noble nature.
Pointless Sacrifice [+200]
Your allies seem to have adopted a rather extreme perspective, believing that every enemy they face poses a dire threat requiring a sacrifice of their lives for victory. This perception persists even in situations where a simple solution or minimal effort could resolve the threat. Their skewed perception of danger and willingness to make unnecessary sacrifices can be frustrating and may even give you headaches as you navigate their overly cautious approach to combat.
as you can see the vast majority of his drawbacks are social but his magic being terrible means that all he's got is his skill, and that tends to just get him in as much trouble as anything else.
Strengths
Knowledge of the Sowa: (-400cp)
"The layman is as far from comprehending your movements as our world is from the sun. Achieving harmony with your blade has pushed it beyond the boundaries of what the human mind can easily understand, leaving opponents unable to read your attacks or intent when fighting with a sword.
Every attack is unforeseen, a surprise manoeuvre not encountered by you before no matter the experience they have with you. Enemies must rely on raw reactions, skill and instinct to fight you as understanding the combat techniques you use remains impossible.
With normal attacks, it is possible for someone to actively keep in their mind what your style is and consciously counter it but this prevents them relying on instinct. To any special techniques you possess, they cannot even do this and each one will be completely unexpected. These effects can be used even with weapons other than the sword.
This harmony you have reached has also given you a heart that could be described as a perfectly still pool of clear water. Your focus in battle is legendary, unwavering in the face of fear and able to patiently wait in a ready stance for days on end. Even magical interference on your mind slides off, unable to taint the clear water."
Root of all Swords- 600
For years, you swung your blade in pursuit of a greater truth. While others sought power or wealth or glory in battle, your blade pulled you onwards past where they all faltered. As you learned, others fell in droves to your skill. Maybe before you even looked back and realised just how far beyond other swordsmen you have already come.
You have reached a level of swordsmanship that cannot be described as just supernatural or divine. To the eyes of the few others on your level, they describe it as having reached the Truth of the World with a single cut.
The result is the ability to accomplish many impossible feats through your sword style.
Cutting any physical material, repelling vastly superior opponents from a location your guard without injury to yourself, cutting through armies of threatening foes with grace and fluidity.
Even with the body of an ordinary man, rather than some powerful heroic form, you remain one of the most lethal combatants in The World.
Your style currently culminates in a single perfect expression of your talent, which has been taken so far as to warp reality itself. A technique that incorporates the Second Magic to cut three times with one slash, creating an inescapable prison of steel, is the best known example.
But this peak you have reached is just the base of another mountain, as you have the ability to rapidly bring new techniques to such a supreme level. Your repertoire, provided you continue your harsh practice, will likely see new abilities like this every few months.
Can’t Read My (-100)
"You got one hell of a poker face. You could be having a mind-shattering meltdown while appearing outwardly as perfectly composed and well-mannered to the extent even the Cloudy Sword Sect would be impressed.
This is also somehow genetic, meaning your kids will be equally as good at containing their inner freakouts behind a face of serenity.
Steel Trap Clarity (-300)
It's a sad fact, but traitors and spies are lurking everywhere. Their hands forced by blackmail, they willingly become a double agent through bribery or falling to good old-fashioned brainwashing.
Not you though, absolutely not.
Upon purchase, you become excessively resistant to traditional forms of corruption, mystical forms of brainwashing, and everything in between. Something with mind-boggling power may still be able to put you under its control.
Most of the threats to your morals or sanity in this world are just out of luck. Additionally, you will always be able to keep a clear idea of your personal principles, meaning you won't stray off of your path on accident.
basic idea here with the none sword based powers are that his social issues can be seen as positive in the right light he just has to be in his nitch otherwise he comes off like an emotionless jackass who's constantly insulting people with a straight face.
again sword autism
i have 100 character points left so lets give him one last boost
Obligatory Appearance Booster (100)
While Cultivating naturally improves your appearance, there are those who are innately blessed. For 0 CP you can be up to the standards of the Azure Hills Cultivators even before you become one yourself.
For an additional 100 you can have some real Xiulans and even Cultivators multiple Realms up would take note of your appearance.
This may or may not be a good thing depending on how you handle it. This also optionally comes with really cute freckles.
and that's all i got for this character, i've put above the cut what i'd use this character for but that leaves two questions left @howlingday @heliosthegriffin @weatherman667 how would you guys use this character? would you play him straight as a rival character or even a villain? is there some other way you see him going? what does the "hero" character act like? (the rival to this one,) and finally what would you make the plot about? personally i'm going for a sort of slice of life type feeling where the main character just wants to be back at home training but all this magical nonsense keeps pulling him away from what he truly wants to do, that and all the people he pisses off who want revenge after he spares them out of honor and they take it as an insult.
