@elodieunderglass - This made me think of you.
Thank you so much for this
it's finally that time of the year again for the clinically depressed newscaster describing february with disco elysium music
what is the single best line in this video
it's a month that doesn't hold up life any better than it really is
something great happened here but it's over with and that's the way february is
like the desperate flinging off of something that's not true anymore
the expedition is getting desperate. people are throwing things aside
this looks like a place where people who are being punished are sent
nobody is tap dancing or breaking into a rogers and hammerstein song
theyre just barely able to get across the street and hunker over a bowl of chili
most of the birds who can afford it have flown to florida
it's as if there's some awful truth out there in the trees
something that's been bothering you for a long time is out there. what is it?
to hide the bleakness of feb., man invented valentine's day. also mardi gras.
what other month can host a holiday designed to remind us we're all gonna die?
character limit forced me to paraphrase
yeah,
February in St. Louis. (And in our hearts.)

I truly hate that “women are more emotionally wired than men” bullshit. Men are creatures of hysteria and I say this as a man.
Absolutely, I think this is at the core of this. So many dudes will get so upset they punch holes in the walls and hold grudges against their girlfriend from 7th grade as a 30 year old but treat women like they’re overly emotional and oh so sensitive for crying when they hurt their feelings. These guys don’t even notice they’re LOUDLY expressing their emotions and then tweeting about how unfair it is men aren’t allowed to express their emotions.
I once saw somewhere that men like this don't think of anger as an emotion and it explained so much. They're not being emotional, they're having a rational response to a situation. And that means they don't have to try to control their anger because if it's rational then everything they do as a result is rational even if they end up in the ER because the wall they punched was cinderblock. Or, less violently, if they end up torching important relationships because they decided being angry means you get to say whatever terrible shit you want.
Being angry is fine! Perfectly reasonable in many situations. But it's an emotional response, and one that needs some looking after, because the impulses it prompts can be very bad ideas.
my latest litmus test for productions and adaptations of hamlet is whether the creator(s) make any thoughtful choices about gertrude at all. they don’t have to do a completely radical against-the-grain gertrude; they just have to do Something. everybody has thoughts and feelings about ophelia, but do you have thoughts and feelings about a woman who’s older and more opaque and ambiguous, who has more power in the play and who doesn’t necessarily look virginal and beautiful, a woman who isn’t so innocent? have you thought at all about what she knows, when she knows it, how she feels about it? when did she know about king hamlet’s murder? does she love claudius? does she drink the poisoned wine on purpose? or does she simply stand there, woman-shaped, and say words
if you put a weird character in a normal situation, people call it "literary fiction." If you put a normal character in a weird situation, people call it "genre fiction." If you put a weird character in a weird situation, you will have produced a forbidden, elite type of fiction that attracts one-star goodreads reviews from the most boring people you can imagine
judas was probably like "jesus has pulled off so many wacky things, he'll get out of this one lickity split, and i get three shiny coins out of it, too"

imagining an alternate timeline where shakespeare wrote a play about king arthur. we would be so unwell

One more joke hate: You may claim to be a woman but biologically you are a featherless biped and thus a man.
Finally a good argument for why I'm actually a man
if you told diogenes the cynic about being trans he'd be like "lol that's a sick troll you're epic" and you'd be like "diogenes no i'm serious" and he'd be like "lol that's even better lmao those guys are so mad about it" and then he'd start going by new original neopronouns every single day specifically to piss off the whole symposium
I just had an idea for a really dumb comedy sketch where a transphobe starts ranting about what really makes a women a woman, and diogenes returns each time with a different cis woman or outwardly femme intersex person that doesn't meet the criteria saying "behold, a man!"
"a woman has XX chromosomes"
*Diogenes with an androgen insensitive XY cis woman*: behold, a man!
"Nono, a woman can bear children!"
*Diogenes with someone who has medical complications associated with pregnancy*: "behold, a man!"
"nono, a woman produces the large gamete"
*Diogenes with a postmenopausal cis woman* "behold, a man!"
Trans Rights With Diogenes! coming to PBS
Some idiot: only women can produce eggs!
*Diogenes holds up a chicken* Behold! A woman!
