I was part of a civilian group getting books to troops around 2003. One of the other men in the chat said that troops were asking for us to 'stop sending romance novels.' He was a bit sharp on the subject but right. One of the Karenish women went off on that. I was very calm on the subject. Said the one time I read a romance novel was on a mountaintop where I'd been for over a month and read every book there at least twice before opening up the romance novel. And I'd never read on since because I'd never been that desperate. But as soon as women got real power in publishing, they (by and large) stopped publishing for men then asked 'why don't men read?'

I used to own a small library of fantasy and science fiction, almost all written by and for men.

Now, I know if I go to a bookshop, all I will see a romantisies about being raped by animals.

The last time I went I was perplexed. There was just nothing for a man. Then I read about what had happened behind the scenes.

How the Nebula awards had just become a participation medal for whoever had the most pronouns. How "straight white male" was always spoken in the same way that bigots said "nigger".

I followed a number of authors and ex publishers, folk from before the great purge of masculinity. Yes, some were women who were disgusted by the abandonment of literature and embrace of smut and communist propaganda.

Go back and look at who used to write the winners. Most were straight white males, and most of the books still stand up. Hell, Dune just got ANOTHER set of films based on it.

None of these authors would be allowed to write today. They would be deemed problematic, and suppressed.

Asimov was one of the most prolific and popular writers of all time, but he would be cancelled because he was Jewish. Hell, even back then feminists hated him, but they couldn't stop men buying his books.

But now? He might stream on YouTube, maybe even be a little popular, but his writing would be unknown. His politics are not correct enough, his stories were not about women and transgenders, and he would have sued the Foundation tv series for the mockery it made of his works.

Science fiction and fantasy are dead. All that remains is minotaurs flopping out an endless yardage of phalluses.
