I don’t have any hard proof on this but I think they did this so they could still graduate the students because they “passed”. But because they don’t actually learn anything their standardized test scores are in the garbage and they can request more funding from the state.
They don’t want students to be held back because it looks bad, and they cost the school money while enrolled, but they can’t justify ever increasing budgets if students are at or above standards.
The students are just victims of the fraud.
While Bush Jr(rightly) gets a lot of hate for the Iraq invasion and gwot. I really think in a lot of ways no child left behind was more destructive to the us long term.
We didn't have letter grades, but anything under 50% was a failing grade, and begin in the 50s was shameful for lack of a better term. Lowering standards just so kids [and their parents] feel good about themselves is counterproductive at best, and destructive at worst.

This is utterly insane. "We canceled it because it appealed to its dedicated fanbase" is just....I don't even have a word. It wasn't even that long ago when executives would have killed to have an IP that came with its own built in dedicated fanbase. That was a large part of why Disney even bought Lucasfilm, ffs.
