And Grimmjow’s no stranger to this, Hollows do it all the time, but when its Kurosaki it snarls in his gut hooks up his insides and knots whatever hes got left because whilst he was bled dry and getting cozy intimate in the bone sands of hueco mundo Kurosaki fought a false god and paid the ultimate price for it

He fights the urge to devour Ichigo once and for all, eat him alive and be done with it all forever but its the what if (and that hes so devoid of reitatsu he wouldnt even be delicious)

At first he resents Kurosaki for taking his fanglessness lying down, that soft. Sweet human heart in his chest has finally won over the bloodlust Grimmjow got licks of in his time with Aizen and it whets his hollow appetite tenfold

He’s not afraid of Kurosaki’s hollow, just wary, and even him showing his nasty face would be welcome at this point

But then he sees the way Ichigo looks for fights, Grimmjow realises fully that Ichigo isnt defanged by choice and that stokes a new hunger in him

If anyone can defy their fate its him and Grimmjows patient, he’s not afraid of losing any time here

So when Ichigo finally gets his powers back, the surge of his gold redblack reiatsu singes across his hierro Grimmjow seeks him out near zippering open reality with how fast he rips the garganta and climbs bodily into Ichigo claws and all and gets caught by him the fuckers laughing at his graceless entrance like wow somebody missed me

They do also have eyes, and their vision is actually pretty acute. But their optic and mechanic sensory inputs aren't integrated together like electro-mechanic sense is. So they have these two fairly sophisticated sensory complexes that Barely talk to each other.

No wonder they try to bring the two inputs together in their environment then; picking things up and turning them around allows them to apply both their mechanical and optical senses to the object. They're just trying to make up for a deficiency of neural organisation.

Including (sigh) the em dash.

There are other victims here (RIP tapestry and delve 🫠), but the appropriation of the em dash—a punctuation mark beloved by writers everywhere—feels especially personal.

A kind of low-grade panic is ensuing. Writers who once memed their own em dash overuse—the greatest punctuation mark ever to grace the control-freak’s lexicon, frankly—are suddenly backing away to avoid accusations.

No. More. We have centuries of dash-abusing writers behind us. We will not sit quietly while AI repurposes our beloved stilted aside—or the just-one-more clarification the sentence demands—or the dramatic pause your comma could never—etc.

You don’t write like AI—AI writes like you.

Defend the em dash.
