besides purity culture rearing its ugly head, i'm 99% sure these terrible takes come from people who, like. self-insert in every single game they play. to the extent that they struggle to conceptualize characters apart from their Idealized Selves - who struggle to relate to characters who have different values and life experiences, biases and fears - much less inhabit those characters and explore their narrative. which is a failure of imagination. not something to brag about.
